Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)
I'm a comic drawer and I know what I say
You work for Konami, don't you?
All these comments about it is too cartoony then what is fifa??? I mean it's ten times more cartoony than pro evo. They are like disney pixar models.
Couldn't disagree more. FIFA is one pack of sweaty, imperfect animals versus another. PES is perfect plasticine.
What alot of people tend to forget when they compare screen shots is that ea do alot of "tidying up" in photoshop pre screen release. Konami are honest and take shots directly from the game.
Here is a little example of what i mean.
I don't remember seeing a Photoshopped FIFA screenshot - I remember them looking exactly like they do in the game, which wasn't always a good thing (brilliant looking still shots of FIFA World Cup 06, with a then-amazing grass effect, but the final game jerked like fuck and was practically unplayable).
I take what you've done there and see a different point than you originally make yourself. I see that and think "if he can do that in five minutes, why can't Konami do it in 18 months?" Yes, it's a still shot you're playing with, but they could so easily turn the contrast up, add an extra level of blur to the crowd and improve those horrible, plain shirt textures (they look great from the side but from the front they look like wood). Yes, gameplay is more important™, but there is an art department at Konami as well you know, who should be doing these things rather than leaving it to the patchers.
Also, this isn't a pop at PES but in football games in general, I've noticed this more and more in the past few weeks - is it just me or do the "wooden tube arms" look really stupid now that we're in next-gen territory? If you look at the arms of the shirts, they always have a perfect cylinder shape, as if they're made out of wood or metal. Same with the shorts - if I was going to see any graphical improvement then I'd like to see that improved the most (aside from the facial expressions). The shirts in other next-gen games don't look like that.
I admit that I expect a lot, but Seabass gave an interview a while back saying this would be a "truly next-gen experience, including the graphics" - sorry, but if I can spot the same graphics as always need improving, then you're not trying hard enough, little fishy.
Ronaldo's not even looking at the ball - in that situation, with the ball that far away from your body, you would have to see where you're stabbing with your foot - otherwise you'd miss it completely.
