EDIT EDIT EDIT we need it so konami need to improve it and i want niiiiikkkkkeeeeeeee!:lmao:

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

I really can't tell from those screenshots if the PS3 version has 2D crowds but if it does it could be because of the limited amount of ram for textures etc. on the PS3 when compared to the 360.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

I liked the grass A LOT. :)
But the entire colour palette and lightening effects used are not next-gen at all. It seems like the same cartoony colour ensembles and palettes used for current gen.
I mean see the difference between the palette and lightening quality used for the new magazine screenshots and the one used for this (supposibly PS3 version) released last year:

I'd like to repeat that the PS3 is the lead sku for this nextgen title. So if anything, thats the platform that will have the better everything etc.

From what I gather though, the main difference will be content.

See, if the graphics looked like they do there, I would have nothing but praise for them. Perhaps the final build looks like that, who knows. Would be nice!

The Knight, I agree.

And that image you posted looks like I expected next-gen to look. The players look truly 3D, like they're alive and could step out of the screen and sit next to you. The lighting looks near perfect. The other images look flat, drab, lifeless.

That's not strictly true though, it is possible for a game to be developed for a platform and then tweaked to have a slight edge on another (I think PES3/4/5/6 were developed for PS2 but were better on PC).

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

Ahem...is that...is that 3D GRASS??????????????????

COULD IT BE POSSIBLE? 3D GRASS?! :) :)

EDIT - Even though, the green colour palette used for the grass is still pretty much current-gen...

Good point, but its definately true in this case.

Yes The_Knight, it does look like 3d grass :)

i think it is but if you look at some of the other screens the grass texture is completely different but i hope the final texture is free 3d like the pic above.
Any one no who the guy above is to me he looks like emerson but it could be alfonso alves

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

Not only is it 3D, but the grass actually seems to bend realistically under his foot's pressure, at different angles :)

Now that is too much detail, for me. I would have made the colours more realistic, instead.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

i truly believe that we haven't realized yet what its coming at us .The game is going to be perfect guys is we11 it means a lot this edition of the game to the developers.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

yeh - everything looks too colourful - the picture that was released over a year ago is far better -

was that pic released from konami themselves?

altough its pretty obvious that i am very unimpressed with the screens so far, i would be able to accept them if the colours used had a more natural colour to them, i mean - grass is not bright green

What i would love is different nets (colour, depth) , taller goals, easier chips and lobs and wider pitches i think wider pitches would make dribbling 10x more fun than it is in evo6, with wider pitches id love them to incorporate "knock past" moves where a player can knock it past someone and carry on running round them + the c.ronaldo move where he rolls it over his foot and heels it back with the other

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

why is there diffrent pitch textures in those screens usually u get diffrent patterns and colour but not textures

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

Id love to have slightly smaller and loarger pitches obviously as long as they are legal sized.

Also a must for me is the way the ball reacts to weather - such as wind and soggy piches or hard pitches etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 06/28/07)

EA must be getting a bit worried now#-o
Yeah, 3D grass which they already have and dummies on the training ground. They must be shitting it. Seriously though, the facial expressions look great. That's one thing they'll almost definitely have over EA.

On the subject of the grass, I'm assuming it will be like it was with one of the FIFAs on 360 - i.e. in training where there's one guy, or in a cut-scene with three or four people, the grass will be 3D, otherwise it will be flat. Hence why one shot, featuring one guy, has 3D grass - and the other, featuring loads of players, doesn't.

That's something i didnt know about the grass in Fifa. I thought it was universally 3D.
By the way, Fifa's 1st 360 game had AMAZING Facial expressions. Almost real. So I don't think EA has anything to be worried about visually.

They will be concerned about the revolutionary gameplay in PES2008 this year, though. EA can't even catch up to PES's minor changes in gameplay every year, talk about TEAMVISION.

those are pics of the beta version yet we can see that the ps3 version has more details then 360, the grass, on the 360 version we cant see any grass.

I'll go into a bit more detail actually, just in-case it interests anyone. :) The very first FIFA on 360 had 3D grass all the time, and the framerate was utterly disgraceful. How the game passed testing and Microsoft certification I will never know. So in the next one it was abandoned for the usual flat grass, and then I think it was the one after that mixed and matched. I forget - all of the FIFAs on 360 have been nothing much to remember apart from the last two, 07 and UEFA, which have had totally new and rewritten engines (something EA bragged about for ten years and never actually did). I can't even remember the "amazing facial expressions" you mention, actually. Seems crazy considering the latest one doesn't seem to have them!

But anyway, in the latest FIFA (UEFA CL), I'm pretty sure that in-game the grass is flat, but in instances such as training or in replays (manual or cut-scene), the grass becomes 3D. So it's a half-way house.

They will be concerned about the revolutionary gameplay in PES2008 this year, though. EA can't even catch up to PES's minor changes in gameplay every year, talk about TEAMVISION.
They will be concerned I'm sure, but bear in mind that UEFA actually had the same thing (where if you tried to go down the wing too many times, they would start blocking you off), so it's not actually new. :) It all depends on how they implement it, though. It was great in UEFA but sometimes you could trick the players into moving out of their positions a bit too easily, leaving a nice big gap for you. If Konami nail it then yeah, EA will be worried - but like I say, they'll be worried anyway. PES has outsold FIFA in the UK before now.

But the way Konami are talking about TeamVision, using phrases like "enhanced threat maps", worries me. The "threat maps" have been in PES since the days of the PSone, where players have to choose whether to stay stood still in their positions or move out - based on their attributes. Otherwise, none of the players would ever move. That combined with the way Konami are saying it's a "totally rewritten-from-scratch engine" like EA said for years, has me a bit worried that Konami are simply adapting EA's old tactics and hoping we'll buy into it.

But we'll see.
