The Retro-PES Corner

I use colors of football mostly for the templates. It's good indication for colors but not always accurate. It's always better to cross-check with sites like Kit Archive or Alamy.

Currently halfway through the 5th season of my PES 3 Master League, and something I've noticed is how early the entire footballing scene gets whacky, compared to later games.

Having been more of a PES 6 fan ever since I first got into the franchise 8 years ago, I was always used to having to face the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man United or Inter in the final stages of the UCL, as well as competing against those same teams for the league title.

In PES 3 it has been different. When I first booted up the game I was expecting to be competing against the same clubs, but already in the early seasons for example, Celta Vigo had the potential to become a power, even reaching the WEFA Championship final in Season 2. Sadly they didn't fulfill the potential but the fact they went that far so early on was something I couldn't ignore.

The two main examples, however, are Real Madrid and Real Sociedad. On one hand, I was expecting Madrid to at least put up a fight, but as of writing this they're currently last in the league (and it wouldn't be the first time they are sent to the promotion/relegation playoffs should it be confirmed, as they did have to top the group in Season 3 in order to achieve survival). On the other hand, Real Sociedad. The unexpected main rivals of my PES United squad. It's been two consecutive seasons where we've been the only two clubs involved in the league title race: on Season 4, PES United came out on top in the end to win its first league title, but in Season 5 Sociedad have really been a force to be reconned with, with eleven consecutive wins and a 7-point cushion above us. And it's not only in the league! We're both currently in the D1 Cup semifinals (United against Porto and Sociedad against Real Madrid). While we had to settle with a 1-1 draw in the away leg, Sociedad beat Madrid 4-1 at the Bernabéu and is pretty much already in the final. And last but not least, the WEFA Championship. We're also both semifinalists, with the potential of facing each other in the final if we manage to reach it. United is up against Arsenal, while Sociedad is facing up against a Barcelona side who is clearly prioritizing this competition as they got an early exit in the D1 Cup and are currently 11th in the league.

I did check their squad to see how have they been so good, and these are the top players I saw they managed to sign:
- Michael Ballack
- Cafu
- Ryan Giggs
- Ole Gunnar Solksjaer
- Denilson
- Massimo Ambrosini

There are other clubs that I noticed were doing a lot better than expected, for instance Spartak Moscow who could've been our rivals in the WEFA semis but were finally bested by Arsenal (I remember seeing the russian club having Paolo Maldini in their starting lineup), or Sparta Prague who are currently in the WEFA Masters Cup semis and are dominating the Eastern League at the expense of clubs like Bayern Munich, Anderlecht or Ajax. The czech side has Pavel Nedved as their main man.

I love seeing such variety this early on, because I have to say that sometimes the PES 6 ML gets really boring because you keep facing the same clubs over and over again, and normally it gets whackier around the 10th season (I've never played the same ML for that long).

I hope the software engineer and the lover of reverse engendering will find a way to improve the frequency of transfers by the CPU on the ML mode on the classic games.
By default the game has 3 levels, maybe one or two more could be added so it create more fun in the mode.

Here’s a little preview of the progress!

If anyone has any PES 6 kits from the 2006–2007 season, I’d really appreciate you sharing them. Any league is welcome! Thanks for your help!

Damn, I guess you've done it after maxing out your Claude limit (doubtful abt this one, I don't think you've maxed them out, right...). But well oh well, can't wait to play as F. Marinos against Mamelodi Sundowns.

This could be you with your Claude, I guess.

Haha yeah, Claude is fed up with me by now 😂 I’ve still got around 20 leagues to add and the Master League to sort out. I’ve managed to add the Champions League, UEFA Cup, and the 2025 Club World Cup format, played every year! 🙂

Currently on a personal project of having an option file made fully by myself on each PES game from 3 to 6.

Had a fun little idea for a team to add on the PES 6 file :)

Challenge now will be to translate the single-digit stats system from ISS Pro Evo to the PES 6 stats system, but I'll eventually figure something out since this is a long-term project. Any help that can be offered will be appreciated though! :)

Well... This post aged like milk

You absolutely nailed it.

I have a softspot for PES 3 ML mostly because of how different each save can be in terms of dominating teams.
In my English Premiership save, Derby county, Arsenal and Everton became the biggest powerhouses, while the CL has been won twice by Real Madrid and twice by Feyenoord. Wish the later games had a simillar transfer system.

There is something about PES 3 that it makes a good time capsule of football, sadly the game isnt that challenging, even though from time to time some games can be a tough 0-0 or suprising 0-1/0-3 losses, but that happens rarely.

If PES 3 had the AI of WE8LE or JL2008CC it would have been special, especially the WE8LE which seems like a perfect sweetspot in terms of an AI that is fun, challenging and has ton of variety. I know i absolutely adored the JL2008CC last year lol but after some time and experience, you will just outscore AI and matches like 4-2. 5-2 are a norm. I dont experience that in WE8LE, but maybe that is just my playstyle.

Your save just casually going back to the late 1960's/early 1970's with that trio hahahaha
I'm guessing you're playing as Derby then? Since it's not originally in the game... Or are you using a patch that added Derby as a playable team?

WE8LE does fullback overlapping runs better than any other PES game.

I recreated this team in PES3 once but I was really lazy and just used their later day counterparts! I found the player profiles are largely the same. From memory:

Merosi: Ivanov
Jano: Daric
Otto: Vorlander
Ragnotti: Valery
D'Agostino: Iorga
Chierici: Cellini
Hruska: Espinas
De Silva: Ximenes
Pavia: Miranda
Kittie: Castello
Lawson: Baroja

Colombo: Kelsen
Munari: Stromer
Gobbato: Cecil
Satta: Eddington
Ricart: Nachtegall
Alviano: Harty
Farina: Matt
Alen: Ostwald
Stella: Burchet
Anser: Njord
Carlson: Huygens

I love that team. They always get forgotten.

Trivia I recycle almost every week: they're largely named after former Alfa Romeo employees and prominent people in motorsport.

Man, I have to say, I'm absolutely blown away by how good World Soccer Jikkyou Winning Eleven 4 is on the PS1 emulator!

The gameplay is incredibly smooth, the CPU is absolutely ruthless, and everything just feels so good. Honestly, what an amazing game! I'm having a blast playing it.

Does anyone know if there's a patch for this game or maybe a full English translation? I've only managed to find a partially translated version, but I'd love to get my hands on a complete English translation.

I’d never played the LE version of WE 8 before and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing. The game is far superior to both PES 4 and the standard WE 8 in every way. I regret not trying it before. I played a few tournaments and had an incredible time.

It really is, after playing it for year and a half i still have a lot of Fun, its a bummer that Konami changed the AI transfer logic.

Thank you very much! I'll see how I do it myself, as I was planning to eventually do a Defaults ML challenge where I would allow myself to only sign those guys alongside the retired defaults such as Vornander and Nachdecal, or the future defaults like Gutierrez. This means I might need to make them slightly different to Castolo and Minanda's gang but I love a challenge anyways!

You know, I did see someone mention that fun fact... I guess that was you hahahaha
It actually inspired me to put the Alfa Romeo logo in the OF and use it as the ISS Pro Evo team's back-of-the-shirt sponsor!
