What I’m mainly looking for is a solid experience for Master League or full seasons.
Also, is the best PS2 version still JLWE2008CC (Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship), or are there better alternatives now?
I also keep seeing a lot of YouTube patches based on Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, but I’ve honestly never played that one before—how does it compare in terms of gameplay and realism on PS2?
Any advice or recommendations for the best setup in 2026 would be really appreciated 👍

Hi,

My choices would be PES 5 or PES 2008 (take Winning Eleven 2008 if you've a modded PS2) on PS2. PES 5 is more easy given the AI isn't as good as in PES/WE 2008 but vs. human player, it's still a blast.

Two different approaches of the game, but both excellent imho.
 
Hi everyone, Im looking for the download of a Pes 2010 already patched. i found on this beautiful community a version of Pes 5 already patched and was awesome, I Hope someone can help me cause I tried to install the smoke patch on my Pes clean version but It doesnt work...

hey sorry for the late reply but i've downloaded this ISO once and tried to play it on my PS2, original hardware, however the game freezes on Master League after the fourth match

do you know if there's a fix for that? Do you think if i just apply your patch separately the game can run nornally?

Use DkZ Studio or GGS to insert the files on to the original Japanese ISO. (& the PCSX2 memory card for the hidden ML teams.)

That’s a good question and being honest I have always wanted to enjoy PES 2014 on PS2 because it has all the features like the Champions League, Europa League, a much improved ML with 20 teams in Div 1, hidden stats when scouting, real money, sponsorship, damn even typing this makes me want to give it another go but it is not as good as PES 5 and PES 2008.

It can be hard to explain, it’s not as physical, not as many fouls, I find the CPU dribbles even more than PES 2008, weirdly the pitch seems narrow (not left to right, but close touchline to far touchline). When you first play it it seems great but I feel my mind drifting as I’m playing. Then after a couple of games i put PES 2008 on and I notice the big difference straight away, the AI is far better in 2008 and everything feels more solid, more physical.

As I said I really wanted to like it, I even tried an excellent updated patch emulating it on my Xbox Series S and it looked fantastic but nope it is not that great … good but not great.

Regarding PSP, I’m not sure.
 
I don't have a PS5, XBOX Series, Switch 1 or 2, nor a PC... but I'm in the mood for the World Cup.

So I'm playing what I play on every World Cup for the last 20 years... a patch for Winning Eleven 2002 made by the fans.
I love the ones made by WE Legends, but they haven't released one for the 2026 World Cup yet.
I found this one on YouTube by Pepe WE MX and it's very good.

I love the World Cup... honestly this might play better than modern titles like EA FC 26 and Netflix's FIFA, though eFootball Kick Off's looking good.

A goal from today, you could feel the goal coming the moment the ball left the boot of Suganuma with that bounce.
I feel like it is sometimes too easy to score absolute stunners in this game but boy they are still satisfying.

I switch between JLWE2008CC and PES3, dont know if i ever scored a true long ranger in PES 3 lol

I think it's another solid game on the PS2 but then I don't think PS2 has a particularly bad version of WE/PES. All of them are good and some of them are legendary. Personal preference is that 2008 was just about the sweet spot for that particular engine and I think games like 2013 and 2014 on PS2 although good games in their own right, they introduced some extra skill moves that in my option are a bit over powered. In 2008 I play passing football to try and create an opening and in 2014 I'm more focused on dribbling and skill moves because they're highly effective on these versions.
I will say that from WE8/PES 4 up until 2014 I find it easy to score from range regularly. Where as games like WE6FE and WE7i it's a real accomplishment to score from 30 or 40 yards out.
On PSP I still think 2008 is the best although there isn't a massive difference with the later versions.

I agree, i love the 2008 version but i prefer switching with PES 3 because i feel like PES 2008 (every PES since 6) is very attack oriented and is very box to box, while also being easier to score long rangers regularly.

It turns out the game doesn't like it when you leave the save data name empty for option files, to the point that it'll crash on real hardware. (Tested it on my PS3.)
