The Retro FIFA Discussion Thread (All FIFA games by EA are welcome!)

I've talked to the Google AI for some stuffs i wanted to know about Fifa PS3 Mod.

And he confirmed/learned to me two things and one was surprising :
-Fifa 15 and 16 Ignite got several problems with the engine, and it marked the day where "foot planting" was replaced by "ice skating". Because the Engine was not aimed to Fifa but for all their others games in priority. That's why i like Fifa 16 game phylosophy, but hate the physics.

-Worldwide : FIFA 16 PS3 is the favorite Fifa from all time thanks that he kept the same impact engine, so the ball physics were still heavy like it should,
As it got both the FIFA 16 game philosophy with the Impact engine reaction : the game was the most balanced and with just the freedom needed to do what you want by keeping the same balance as a Fifa 14 (for example) you can get on the serie (as they added several type of tactical stuffs and others players reactions/moves etc.)

-Most astoninishing and i practically fall from my seat, and that's probably why to me the version i tried on PS3 like 17/18/19 really feels bad, was because they included IGNITE engine on it! They could have done it before, PS3's and X360 still got the guts to handle that engine for that simple reason : more than half of the thing that engine could do wasn't used for a football game. So it wasn't heavier to handle for those console than the previous one.
As usual, it was a promotionnal feature, as the engine didn't stayed more than 2 years on the new gen console from that time to make people think that " IGNITE Engine is the new engine > So it's the most advanced"... Wrong : it was the first engine made to fit for all game they created. Before, every game got their own engine. In reality, for the devs, it was worste : they got to recreate things that the good ol' IMPACT does naturally as it was already implanted to it (like the ball physics "impact" and all sort of collisions : they were more automatically handled by the Engine AI while for IGNITE you should've introduce yourself the parameters).

Now, they're things that i wonder and i should investigate myself : why Fifa 14 Ignite feels better than PS3 and PC version?
1st theory: Looks like Ignite was already balanced for that game, for everything to fit with it. So outcomes are a bit different but the core game is the same/as the Ignite parameters were aimed to reproduce that one and only version regarding animations and all... I didn't checked or noticed if there's foot planting issue, but probably they kept the same formula as the Ignite engine purposed for walking/running so there's wouldn't be any animations floating/skating issues. But IF ever you change the steps animations : it may cause ice skating. Just a theory but that's the one i thurst less.

2nd theory : they used IGNITE especially for graphisms (models are more lifelike in that version) but Impact Engine was used for all related to physics, that's personnally what i through : the fact to play with more life-like models renders the animations differents and more organic. Contact felt different as the Impact engine had to deal with different models. Same for everything modded by EA graphically impacting collisions. But let's be totally honest : the difference is small enough to found that game better than all previous Fifa if you compile them, but the changes aren't prolific at all.

Now when you play Fifa 15 were IGNITE take the full control including physics : it's a totally different game, not a matter of taster but way less authentic, balanced and physically logic that all the PS3 versions.
It was my "worst fifa ever" before Fifa 22-25, sorry for the fan i still don't get how they could like it, a bit like a PES 16 defender. then as it was too floating, too easy to score etc. etc., against an human scores where demeasured. I think it's the Fifa where, Online on Seasons : the goal ratio was the higher. Simple Dribbling and long shoots were too lethal.
But i brought the 20 and it was the easiest CPU i never played. Winning several time at the highest difficulty level with a 67 overall rated Libertadores team against Real Madrid by 4 or 5 goals difference, and not just one time... I erased the game the day i brought it, then i didn't liked the global physicality of everything (As i saw where EA were aiming at, didn't brought Fifa 21).

Hey mates! I'm new to this thread in particular, I'm curious if anybody knows about any original season type patches for old FIFA titles like FIFA 2001 or 2002, I'm sure those games might be hard to crack open and do anything with, but hey we've gotten this far, there has to be some stuff out there. I know there's a south american teams patch for FIFA 2002 on PC, but I've had a tough time installing it and just getting things to work... But I'm still on the hunt for more patches for these games! Cheers!
