The Master League adventures thread

Yeah i heard about it. Very expensive for what it is and not really worth it for the current PES imo.

I had a great moment in my 'interim' ML. Promotion from Div 2 was in my sights in the last few weeks, but it was going to be a challenge. I needed to win my final three games (after not being able to win my last four) to scrape second place. So i won two and the final game i was third about to face the second place team. A win would take me equal on points with them, with a better goal difference. Anything else and i'd be languishing within Div 2 for another season.

Goal scoring isn't easy to come by with the default crew, so my heart sank when the opposition took the lead first. 1-0. My first choice striker, Ordaz had been hitting good form and managed to pull one back to my joy. 1-1. The opposition struck again, early in the second half and i thought that was it for me. 2-1 I hadn't scored more than two goals in a game all season. However, two minutes later Huygens netted in off the upright, restoring parity and giving me some belief. 2-2.

I continued to toil, as the minutes counted down. Castello came on for Huygens to see if he could give the opposition something new to think about. Ten minutes from time the Brazilian was brought down in the box, as he was about to shoot. Penalty! I was one kick from promotion and it sure felt like it....I knew low through the centre was a good bet, but i've had countless 'vital' ones saved via this method. Ordaz stepped up and drove it low to the keeper's left. The keeper dived to his left, but high and the ball flew underneath him. 2-3. I then attempted to 'park the bus,' knowing that if they equalised it would be over. Thankfully, i held out and achieved promotion. :COOL:
 
I'm currently playing a manager mode in FIFA with Serie B outfit Avellino (my wife choose it for me...).
Have played 5 games: two wins at home and two losses away in the competition. A 1-0 loss in the away leg of the Coppa Italia...

Edit, a couple of days later:

Prof, are you by an chance doing a ML with US Grosseto ???

I've played 3 matches against them with Avellino.
I lost the first match of the season with 2-1 at their ground.
Then i had to play them twice in the Coppa Italia.
First match (away) i lost 1-0, second one i won 2-0 and so i went to the next round.
I'm currently 8th in Serie B.
Avellino IRL are a very poor team, they are 22th and last in Serie B and they haven't won a single match (just a couple of draws).
 
My manager mode in FIFA is with De Graafschap :). Thought I'd return to that site of previous, er, 'glories'.

I really like some of tactical options in FIFA, you are given more settings to tweak and it feels much more transparent than Pro Evo's.
 
I feel the same way, gerd, FIFA is great for playing with mates, but manager mode doesn't give the same great feel as ML.

I will defo play ML in PES 09, I miss it a lot, PES 2008 was unplayable and almost a year passed since the last time I had a proper one. Will more likely play as Reading, starting in division with some other Championship sides.

I bought both of them...i'm playing a manager mode with Avellino and BAL in PES2009.
BAL is very, very addictive...much better than the similar FIFA mode (although i prefer FIFA's gameplay). I have created a 17 year old Belgian with Algerian roots: Mansouri... Mansouri is actually playing for Grenoble (who are really piss poor, they have only 1 point in 12 matches...)and just got a place on the bench after playing training matches against the first team week after week...

I played an exhibition game with them against Aachen. I'm currently playing lots of exhibition matches with the poorer teams (up to 2.5 stars). I get to scout players this way. You can see my progress (or lack of, here) One win only so far :APPLAUD:
 
I sort of stumbled upon it.

You'll notice after every match, in the lower right corner, it mentions you getting points and to log on to the website to check it all out.

First of all, you need to have your console online. After every game it updates, literally immediately. You don't have to do a thing. Although i guess it can upload in batches too, once you connect if you've been offline for a while.

I tried signing up with a similar name to my gamertag, and i had a few problems with the sign up. So i used the 'forgot your password' link, which resets it. When i eventually logged in, it recognised me by my gamertag.

Once you get to your page, you can decide what to display on it, blogs results etc. My profile is PNutmeg. You can search for people's profile's if you know their name.

Thanks Prof, i will search mine (i'm "stan" by the way...i fucked up on my first Sony account so i was "player01_gerd" or something along that line...which is rather ridiculous, so i made a second account...my kids are playing with the first one... but they prefer PES2009....i'm not sure what diehard FIFA-fans would make of that).

When i saw that your first match was with Vaduz, i spontaneously (what a difficult word) began to laugh...that was fairly predictable...i was thinking of doing a manager mode with Vaduz, but in the end i let faith (= my wife) decide and it had to be Avellino (because she likes the sound of that name...i prefer "Hearts of Midlothian" which is a novel just like Germinal (Beerschot Antwerpen)).

Looking forward to an ML in 2009 (PS2). The gameplay is good. A better pace, flow and balance, compared to 2008.

I'm going to have to wait for a nice clean option file, or do the editing myself. I don't like it when people fiddle with stats and overwrite players etc. Shame the Spanish clubs need to be sorted too.
 
Once Konami have their update, i will start a ML too...i want to play with an Italian team.
Any ideas ???
Teams i would like to try: Genoa, Sienna (favourites at the moment), Catania (lots of Argentinian players), Reggina...
Anyone know if the "empty" teams are usable in ML this year ??? In PES2008 they weren't....
 
Go with Catania gerd. I think Genoa, for example, will be too easy for you once you get going. Plus you like the Argies.

So, in the PS2 version the, ML is now made up of:

20 teams in Div 1
12 teams in Div 2

This has helped me decide which team i'll pick, (of the few i was considering)

I reckon it'll be Standard de Liege in a Franco-Lowlands League :D

A bit more editing to go first though :YAWN:
 
I'll be reading your posts about a(n eventually) ML with Standard with intrest Prof...now that Brussels has relegated i "follow" Standard in the Jupiler League...i was particularly impressed by them in their matches against Liverpool in the CL qualification. It was a long time that i was "supporting" that fanatically a Belgian team in Europe and i was very, very disappointed with Kuyt's last minute goal in the prolongations....(but Liverpool would have won with the penalties too).
I guess you read my PM. Is Dalmat in the PS2 game ??? (he's the brother of the Dalmat who currently plays for Sochaux...i created him in the PS3 version and gave him stats in the 70's...but i hope he's in the DLC update that will come soon...).
 
Thanks for the PM gerd. Wilfred Dalmat isn't in the PS2 version, but i can lift him and Nicaise from a previous PES. Annoyingly, in Konami's update of the PS2, they didn't do much with Standard. So i would be a bit short if i transfered every one out. But if i get Dalmat and Nicaise it should be alright.

I noticd you put Simaeys (Brugge) in the lineup twice, as a CB then a DMF. Which one is his first? Also, is Anderlecht a 4-3-3?

I just finished editing the majority of my OF yesterday: All real names, lower case names for players and teams, removed all duplicates, shortened names (eg A. Cole, Liedson etc) "van"s with a small "v" etc... I can't believe i put myself through it :CONFUSE: In short, it's how i like it and no other OF is like it. The upshot of having gone through every player in the OF, is that i now have a good understanding of who's in the game.

Now i'm just tweaking appearances of a few players, checking formations, stadiums and transfers and i'll then be ready to kick off with Standard de Liege in the inaugural "Franco-Lowlands League"....most likely sponsored by some beer or other :BEER:
 
Regarding lineups, i came across this site which is useful.

Pick a league/season, then a team, then click on 'analysis' to see who plays where most, and then click on the result to see the actual match lineup.
 
Ah shit Prof...Simaeys can play both CB and DMF.
He alternates with Clement (who can also play both) or with Alcaraz (with Alcaraz as a CB).
Anderlecht plays something between 4-4-2 and 4-3-3.
They have a very weird foramtion with Boussoufa (who is used as a winger)and Losada (or Chatelle) who is more of a midfielder but who plays as a winger too. You could say they alternate these two systems (in one match that is).
I've been to that site you mentioned and i noticed i als forgot Polak (i used the Jupiler League's official site and went looking for the most recent matches). Normally Polak is always a starter as CM along with Biglia and Gillet...
I think that site has better information than what i gave you (for which 'm sorry...).

New Standard de Liège boss, Professor Nutmeg, began his tenure in Belgium with a home friendly against FC Volendam. 'Les Rouches' played with confidence and dictated large portions of the tie. The spine of Onyewu, Defour and De Camargo showed promising signs for the season ahead, as Liège comfortably beat the visitors 3-1.

It was Steven Defour who put the home side ahead after just three minutes. Camozzato's run down the right flank eventually found De Camargo, whose first touch pass worked the ball infield to Defour. The captain then finished from just outside the box to put his side 1-0 up.

The promising young Belgian added a second on 55 minutes, when De Camargo entered the box at the the byline and found the on-rushing Defour with a sweet chip. Defour's late arrival saw him unmarked as he entered the box, heading Liège 2-0 up.

Having already baked the cake, De Camargo added the iceing on 83 minutes with a third goal. Fed by Wilfried Dalmat, the Brazilian danced past a couple of defenders and beat the keeper, putting the game beyond Volendam. The visitors managed a consolation goal on 92 minutes, when substitute Melvin Platje pounced on a loose ball in the box, to beat Espinoza from five yards.

With only a matter of days to go before the inaugural Franco-Lowlands league begins, the new boss has reason to be upbeat.
