No clubs came in with a bid for one of my players - I don't blame them!. However, unexpectedly, Cádiz survived again anyway.

I really didn't think I would get there, and I was even more pessimistic after the opening three games were all lost, but I kept going anyway, just for a sense of completion even if that meant game over.

A change of formation helped. The 4-2-3-1 wasn't giving me much joy, so I switched to the 5-2-1-2 that worked so well for me in my last season with Aachen. At one point we even managed an unthinkable four games undefeated, and, better yet, actually won a match! . A dramatic 90th minute scrambled winner by Aguilar, against Levante of all teams, really changed the season with those 800 points earned for that late, desperate win.

Cádiz still finished bottom of the league, W1 D6 L7 I think, and also finished the season a handful of points shy of the salary amount. So I still needed to play some friendlies at the end to finally secure a third season, but in doing so I even managed to free up enough cash to afford the wages of one new player on a free transfer. I searched the unaffiliated players for some Spaniards and signed the one with the lowest wage, then let one of my other midfielders go to help make financial room. You can't be too fussy!

Cádiz now have to climb that mountain all over again from a base of about 600 points, which isn't much but at least is better than the 150 last season! I've set up some challenges in my time playing PES, but I consider avoiding game over in that second season as perhaps my biggest PES achievement to date. It was certainly the toughest, anyway.

It's proving a very addictive, very tense, very satisfying ML so far. Each game takes on such huge importance, because each heart-breaking defeat means you have fewer games on the calendar in which you might be able to scrap out a lucky draw here or there. Goals and clean sheets become such precious commodities... each lucky, scrambled, messy goal demands that you jump around the room like a loony who has just won the World Cup...

This is the most enthralling story i've read on this site so far and i can assure you that people like the Prof or db or Stringer had some good stories...but your Cadiz story is the best i've read so far.

Forest through to Champions League final.

Can Forest make it 3 European Cups?

Nottingham Forest are through to the final of the UEFA Champions League after a heroic display against Manchester United over 2 legs.​

Despite losing in the F.A Cup semi-final match against Chelsea on penalties, and a patchy run of form, manager Nigel Clough was very confident in his pre-match interview. The Forest manager stated that he was confident of winning at Old Trafford as his side have done it in the league for the past 2 seasons. He also went on to say that he believed Forest could go all the way and win the competition.

All of this infuriated Alex Ferguson however. He went on to state that Forest had no right whatsoever to be cocky and that they were over-achieving in style. He also added cheekily that Man Utd are still on for the treble after reaching the F.A Cup final and have reduced Forests lead to 2 points. As if this all English tie needed any more hype.

Ferguson could'nt believe 2 penalty decisions​

With an electric atmosphere at Old Trafford, you just knew this game would be memorable. Manchester United needed just 5 minutes to break the deadlock when Thomas Gravesens poor clearance was snatched by Wayne Rooney, who unleashed an absolute rocket past Robert Green, which had Alex Ferguson out of his seat.

Man Utd continued to dominate, but were caught on the break on the 35th minute and Gabriel Heinze hacked down Jason Roberts in the penalty area. Up stepped Nicolas Anelka, and he confidently dispatched the penalty to level the tie.

Unbelievably, Heinze again conceded a penalty just minutes later, with Nicolas Anelka stepping up and smashing the ball into the top right corner. Alex Ferguson was absolutely furious with both decisions and ended up being sent to the stands by the referee.

The second half was pretty even with both sides having chances. Disaster struck for United in the second minute of injury time, when Phil Jagielka rose above the defence and headered the ball into the net to make it 3-1 and give Forest a hell of an advantage going into the second leg. The look on Sir Alex’s face said it all.

Forest fans over the moon​

United played this game like a team possessed but struggled to break down the resilient Forest defence. The longer this game went on, the more Man Utd looked frustrated. They came closed when Wayne Rooney broke free one on one, but smashed the ball against the cross-bar. Forest did enough to hold on and have amazingly got through to the final to face Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Forest manager was visibly moved by the whole occasion. “These fans are some of the greatest in the world, we couldn’t have got here without them”. “It’s amazing to think that 4 seasons ago we were struggling in the Championship, and now were in the final and are on the brink of winning the Premier League”. “ No matter what goes on at this club, you cannot take away the success and history from it, Over achieving my Arse”. :mrgreen:

Before the final against Barcelona however is the small matter of the league. With only a few games to go, first up is………… you guessed it, Manchester United. :lol:

CHAMPIONS!!!​

Utd palyers celebrate winning the premiership

Sheffield Utd cruised to their first ever Premiership crown at the first time of asking, winning the league by a huge 12 point margin. The Blades only lost 2 games all season and the manager's policy to stick to mainly British players, which was heavily criticised earlier in the campaign, has paid dividends!

After losing their opening fixture at White Hart Lane, it seemed the Blades would struggle to survive in the top flight, but remarkably they went on a 25 match unbeaten run with their next defeat coming during the busy Easter schedule with the league effectively in the bag.

The success of the Yorkshiremen also justifies the appointment of the young Welsh manager Mr Mnj, whose record as a coach is growing ever more impressive following his Serie A success with FC Sicily. The young manager is yet to taste success in Europe, which will undoubtedly be his main aim next season.

I think u might have to unlock the option first in the PES-shop, although im not 100% sure on that.

Then when u start a new ML, u choose to play with Match Mode players, instead of the default ML crew.

When you start a Ml you have to answer 6 (???) questions...
One of the questions give you three options:
the default crew
create a team (also with the the default crew)
and the third option which is "match mode" i think: these are the real players of a team...piece of cake...

In Network Play Mode you have to choose 'Do not play in network mode' or 'undecided'. If you choose 'Play in network mode' it will grey them out.

Were you not tempted to leave one player's stats "as is" to have a "star player/team hero," if you like? Matt was my man. A real live wire. I always change his nationality to Brazilian though, lol.

It's tricky enough with the default crew, but to lower their stats too! It is a great feeling when a) you eventually score and b) you finally claim a win.

Season Review 2006/07

It may be their first season back in the big time, but Psymon’s Recreativo de Huelva have worked something of a miracle. After only two summer signings in Osasuna’s out of favour front man Roberto Saldado and Real Madrid’s injury plagued wide man Óscar Miñambres, who joined on a 6 month loan, there would of been few people that would of bet on Recre finishing 3rd. Yet after a mammoth effort they did just that.

Psymon’s Recreativo side rarely played the football you might associate with a team finishing 3rd in La Liga but it was there gritty never say die attitude that has earned them the plaudits of some of the most critical of football pundits.

Whilst it is easy to praise the manager allot of credit has of course got to go to the players and in particular Portuguese centre back Beto and striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle(Pongolle pictured above). Beto’s rock solid performances were the foundations to many wins and coupled with the 14 goals scored by Pongolle manager Psymon had a winning recipe that few could match. An honorable mention must go to 19 year old goalkeeper José Ramón who was surprisingly made first choice in goal, yet the young Spaniard rarely failed to impress.

However because of the early first round exit to Villarreal, Recre were able to put all their energy into the league.

After finishing 3rd Recreativo de Huelva will now enter the qualifying rounds for next seasons Champions League. Manager Psymon has stated that in order for his team to perform across multiple competitions next season the team will need new faces saying “I realize we do not have a big squad and certainly playing in no other competitions except the league was a deciding factor to our final league position, however next season we fully intend to go further in the Copa del Ray and qualify for the Champions League. Does this mean we need new faces? Yes it does and that is no disrespect to my current team but in order to go further we need more players, there can be no question of that”. Recre’s Chairman, Francisco Mendoza, has refused to be drawn on the question simply stating “Make no mistake about it Psymon has the full backing of the board and we will do what is necessary and right for the future of this club”.

It wasnt the biggest of margins i think it was about 7 or 6 points. The top spots were occupied by Real Madrid and Barcelona and below me in 4th and 5th was Villarreal and Valencia.

Astonishing 4th place for newly promoted Royals:

Newly promoted Reading finished 4th in their first season ever in the English top flight.
At the beginning of the season the aim was to avoid relegation, but Reading never had to fight against relegation.
After 5 matches they were in second position, but everybody at the club was aware of the fact that that was too good too be true...After the first round Reading were in 9th position, what proved to be their lowestranking and this after a series of 6 games without a win. This series continued with 3 or 4 more draws but then the Royals got a couple of good wins and neve rlooked back. They ended the competition with an astonishing run of 10 matches without a loss (mostly victories).
All this was enough for a fourth place behind Champions Chelsea, Man utd and Liverpool but before teams like Arsenal, Spurs, ...

Steve Sidwell was celebrated by the fans as the team's best player of the season, before Leroy Lita...but it seems rather inappropriate to give individual honours for a team which main stregth is the collective play and the team spirit.

Reading will not do "stupid things" or be blinded by th epossibility of Champions League football..."our aim once again will be avoiding relegation" was the first comment of Belgian manager Gerd DK... and also "in pite of this good performance Reading is not a big name in international football and thus will not attract big players...modesty suits us well...so don't expect big signings for the next season...we will need a broader squad with goot team players and no stars..."

Well done to mnj too, it's nice to see that you still have the basis to the Shef Utd team and havnt opted to buy superstars.

Psymon, i've actually finished my ML season now, just need to find time to write an update. This has definatly been my most favourite ML ever because i was'nt winning trophies straight away and struggled. Also i refrained from buying superstars which is definatly more rewarding. I probably won't do another season with Forest, i've enjoyed it from start to finish and it ended nicely. (More on that for another time. :mrgreen

The highest profile name in that list is surely M.G Pedersen whose transfer came about after Blackburn’s dismal season saw them only one place above the drop zone. However is it Martinez’s name who has cause the most exciting around Recrativo, 18 year old showed guile and passion in the Bilbao midfield last year and after their relegation Psymon pounced signing him for a club record £7 million. Guayre adds much needed cover to the strike force which was almost solely relied on Sinnama Pongolle last season. Whilst Goalkeeper Rui Patricio and Brazilian playmaker Kerlon may both be to young to hold down a starting berth just yet, however Kerlon is highly regarded in Brazil already and may prove to be a top signing by Psymon.
Recreativo de Huelva: Season 07/08 the first quarter

La Liga Primera

With many new faces brought in over the summer manager Psymon was eager to test his new players and their first opponents Espanyol were first up. Goals from Saldado and substitute Santi were enough to get Recre’s season off on the right foot.
The next league game saw them pair up against Valencia who last season finished just one place below Recre and were eager to prove there point a goal from new signing Fred gave Valencia the lead, but two goals from in form hitman Saldado marked a great comeback.

Two 1-0 wins over Deportivo la Coruna and Villarreal followed before a crushing defeat away to Sevilla. Kerlon had given the visitors the lead with his first goal for the club before a headed goal from Luis Fabiano and a sublime Fredi Kanoute free kick secured a 2-1 win for Sevilla. It only got worse in the league as Recre fell to a 1-2 loss at home to Osasuna courtesy of two late goals from Pierre Webo handed the points to the visitors. However game seven in the league against Getafe went without a hitch with goals from M.G Pedersen, Beto and Saldado put them into a 0-3 lead, a late 90minute goal from Getafe was all they could save and the game ended 1-3 to Recre.

As of so far Recreativo de Huelva have 15 points from seven games and sit 4th in the table. The current leader of La Liga are Real Madrid with Barcelona close behind in 2nd place with both teams winning 6 out of 7 games and drawing 1.

Champions League Qualifiers

Recreativo’s group A paired them with Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina and Villarreal. The first game got off to a great start with a 1-2 win over Atletico Madrid, however the Villarreal dealt manager Psymon’s Champions league hopes a major blow with by beating them 1-2 at the Nuevo Colobino. The situation worsened with a 0-1 defeat at home to Fiorentina with Adrian Mutu’s 70th minute winner leaving Champions league hopes in tatters.

Manager Psymon billed the remaining 3 games as must win games, however there was more misery to follow as Atletico Madrid held them 1-1 in a game that Recreativo should of won after hitting the post 3 times in the space of 25 minutes.

Recreativo were all but out and their fate laid in the hands of their fellow group members results. Psymon was quoted in the Sun as saying “it’s now or never were not out yet and I’m calling on my players to go out there against Villarreal and Fiorentina and give them hell if we win both games who knows it’s still a possibility and whilst it remains that way it’s my job to see we try”. Recreativo huffed at they puffed against Villarreal for 90 minutes of agonising football and then in injury time a goal from new signing Gauyre sent the away fans mad after latching onto a hopeful ball from Uche, Guayre kept his cool to round the keeper and slot home setting up a date with destiny with Fiorentina.

Psymon’s Recre entered the game knowing that only a win would do as currently Fiorentina had the 2nd place spot in group A. Psymon fielded his strongest side with Saldado and Guayre spear heading the attack. After a 0-1 defeat at home to Fiorentina earlier last month nerves were unforgivable but to everyone’s surprise Recre took the lead through Guayre in the 12th minute only to be pegged back on the stroke of half time by Luca Toni who headed home Mutu’s corner. Into the second half they went with the scores tied at 1-1, Saldado hit the crossbar midway through the half at it seemed like the goal would never come. However in the 76th minute Pedersen was sent crashing to the floor following a challenge in the area and the referee pointed the spot. Saldado was tasked with the penalty and he didn’t disappoint dispatching his shot into the bottom left hand corner. And then when the Fiorentina defence pushed up in the last minutes Gauyre scored again sprinting free after being put through by Martinez. When the final whistle went it was official Recreativo de Huelva had qualified for the Champion’s league for the first time under manager Psymon, the news was greeted with a carnival like atmosphere back at Recreativo. One can only imagine what they would do if they were to qualify for the last 16.

Cheers, Prof. No, I didn't really spare a thought to a star player, they all needed to be as rubbish as each other! Mind you, now that I've eventually signed a player on a free transfer you can really notice the difference. He's pretty average by normal standards but is clearly head and shoulders above his bumbling teammates (not literally, he's 170cm!).

And you're right, it is a great feeling when you eventually score and finally claim a win. That's what this ML was built around, I wanted to get back to that challenge of overcoming adversity rather than just expecting to dominate and win.

I'm pleased to report that things are going well, a third season survived. Starting from 650 points, Cádiz managed to accrue enough funds to pay another season's wages and come out with about 1000/1100 left over (salaries target is now about 4000 I think), so finances are still a bit hand-to-mouth but are at least improving in prospect each year.

This third season was about perfecting the art of the 0-0 draw. Although goals dried up and not even a single league victory was managed all season (one in a friendly), a tightening of the defence resulted in a large number of draws and fewer defeats. In fact it was almost enough to finish 7th, where Cádiz had remained for most of the campaign, until a loss in the last couple of weeks to our rivals at the bottom meant that we were leap-frogged and consigned to finishing at the foot of the table for a third time. The only way is up

The precious extra funds from those valuable draws enabled the signing of another Spanish free agent, a 32 year old fullback released by fellow strugglers Murcia. I had been hoping for a striker but none were available, I had to take what there was, picking up the un-wanted scraps from teams near us in the table! At least that takes the number of non-numpties to two.

Season four has started quite well and I'm pretty confident that it will not only be survived but could be a first real step forward. The aim is to not finish bottom! We'll see

If I may throw in a tiny little tactical tip that I'm having some (relative) success with... if you play with a two-CF partnership, have you ever tried setting one or both of your strikers to LW or RW? I don't mean physically moving their positions, just leave them in the centre as default and just change the role. I find that they'll pull out wide quite nicely while you're building up and then still manage to get into the box if a cross comes in from the opposite side. Worth experimenting with.

I find that they'll pull out wide quite nicely while you're building up and then still manage to get into the box if a cross comes in from the opposite side. Worth experimenting with.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought this would make a difference. Could be used with one of my favourite tactics "opposite side attack" perhaps, although generally, it's the SMF/WF who hangs off.

Nottingham Forest shock Europe by defeating Barcelona 3-0 to claim their third Champions League.

Forest claim Europe's Holy grail​

Forest fans everywhere will remember this night in the Stadio Olimpico forever. From start to finish, Forest were undisputedly the better side, and thoroughly deserve the title of Kings of Europe. The club have taken the scalps of some big sides in this tournament but saved their best European performance until the very end.

Both sides went into the game with their strongest elevens. On paper this game looked a complete mismatch, but as they say, “the games not played on paper”. Barcelona looked nervous right from the very start and could have been 1-0 down in the first 5 minutes if it wasn’t for the crossbar to deny Aiden Mcgeady. Forest continued this pressure, and where firing shots left, right and centre. Then disaster struck for Forest, as Joleon Lescott brought down Ronaldinho in the box in the 10th minute to concede a rather soft penalty. The game then settled down until the 21st minute when Jason Roberts knocked former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on his backside and smashed the ball past a stunned Victor Valdes for the opener. The Forest fans erupted and the ground was deafening. After this the game settled down again with Barcelona being limited to the odd long range shot. The game looked to be coasting into half-time until an Aiden Mcgeady cross met the head of Nicolas Anelka, and went into the top left corner to make it 2-0. The whole Barcelona side looked completely shell shocked, each looking to blame each other.

With such a fantastic first half, viewers expecting a better second half or a Barcelona fight back were to be left disappointed. The second half wasn’t exactly action packed, with both sides having few chances early on. Barcelona started to get going late on but were hit on the break in the 77th minute, when a Ronaldinho corner was cleared by the Forest defence, which found the feet of Aiden Mcgeady. Mcgeady then ran past Carlos Puyol, eventually found himself on goal, went one on one with Valdes and poked the ball with the outside of his foot into the net for an amazing 3-0 scoreline.

Belletti takes an early bath

With the score 3-0, Barcelona fans where leaving in massive numbers and the ones who stayed booed every touch their team had. If you thought that was bad it got a lot worse in the 84th minute, when Juliano Belleti was given a straight red for a professional foul on substitute Dean Ashton, after he was clean through on goal. Forest coasted home to win the UEFA Champions League for the third time in the club’s history.

Celebration ensued with fans celebrating long into the night. Manager Nigel Clough was full of praise for his team. “ This night will live with the club forever and is right up there with the 2 before it. We managed to not only beat, but outclass a team that costs millions and compared to our side, that makes the achievement even more special than it already is”. He then cheekily added “ Whose the special one now”. :mrgreen:

Cloughs former head coach PES King, who is now director of football at the club and is no stranger to European success himself, winning Champions league with Arsenal, Real Madrid and St Etienne, was also full of praise for the manager and the team. “ I came to this club with Nigel to help him with the pressure of managing a massive fallen giant. I knew straight away that he was going to be a top class manager and the amount of success and stability he’s brought the club without bankrupting it, is unbelievable. This club deserves nothing but success and the team has been fantastic, the team spirit is nothing short of phenomenal. When asked of the rumour of him getting back into full time management, PES King grinned and said “ I won’t comment on those rumours for now, but I can tell you that my work here is done”.

With the dust barely settled on this fantastic triumph, there’s still the matter of the league title. With only 2 points separating Forest and Man Utd and 3 games remaining, The race for the Premiership crown is well and truly on!
