The 'Become A Legend' Discussion Thread

I can't tell you how many times I've scored just so the opposition can kickoff 'n score seconds later!!!
So frustrating.

So my 2nd season drew to a close last night. I finished the season as Genoa’s top scorer with 9 goals, but there’s no satisfaction in that – the rest of the squad are total guff.

On the last day of the season I rang my agent to see what was in my Inbox. I didn’t have any big clubs sniffing around, which was disappointing (and unrealistic – I’m awesome;)). Catania, Bologna and Cagliari were most interested, and then a promising contract offer from Napoli. None of those sides had really great teamwork stats so I pushed through the weeks to see who else would come in.

Finally, in the penultimate negotiation week, an offer that ticked all the boxes from Chievo! They finished 5th last season so European Football was guaranteed and had really good teamwork ratings. I just wanted to check their formation before signing – but instead of selecting Top Menu I automatically clicked Go To Next Week.

As the screen reloaded I knew I had made a fook-up and lo, Chievo had withdrawn their offer, as had nearly everyone else! I had a choice between another season at Genoa or to sign for Napoli. I remember someone in this thread saying they had had a good time at Napoli so I packed my bag and headed south.

I’ve played 2 games in the stiffs so far, but the difference between here and Genoa is night and day. The passing is much quicker and more accurate, when I make good runs about 60% of the time I’ll get the ball, and if I lay on chances for others, they take them – it’s wonderful! I’ve scored one, created one in both games so I’m hoping it’s not long until I make my bow at Stadio San Paolo.

Finally, some funny transfers I noticed in this last window:
David Beckham to Udinese
John Terry to Spartak Moscow
Gareth Bale to AC Milan

Class. I love reading these.

Finally last night I scored my first goal for Boro, it came just after the mid season negotiations. Trust me I thought my barren goal drought was never gonna end, but I finally paid my manager back for his faith in me. Hull came back in for me in the transfer window and offered me excellent money to end my Boro nightmare, but I kindly declined. As they say, never go back. Ask Fowler and Juninho.

The goal came in a 2-1 loss to Man City. I followed the next game with a goal against Fulham and a MOM in a 1-0 win. Another goal ( Left foot volley) and an assist and another MOM in my next game against West Brom, and finally Boro were getting what they paid for. Its definately not a coincidence, but has anybody else noticed when your not scoring and your team are down they play poor?. But inject a bit of confidence and the whole team seems to respond. After a terrible start to my 3rd season with Boro, finally we seemed to have turned a corner, and everyone is playing a well and full of confidence.

I was thinking my keeper at Boro was pants, and hoped we'd sign another keeper. I also hoped we'd sort out a decent winger that could deliver some nice crosses for me to oblige. The manager must have read my mind, he signed a young German superstar keeper called Kremer and Mr Beckham.

The tide has turned at the Boro, long may the revival continue. ;0)

Ok, I read this elsewhere so don't kill me if it isn't correct.

If it is correct it's also a spoiler about changing formations so BEWARE:

You can't change the formation and tactics of the team you are with, but you can change the rest of the sides. (Hey, it's Konami remember? :CALM:.)

So at the end of a season, if a club you like offer you a contract but play in a crappy or defensive formation, before you accept their offer pop into edit mode and dabble with the team. Then go back into BAL and accept their contract - you should be moving to a club that is all about you.

Should also work if you want your international team to play a different system (as long as it isn't an international week when you try to change the formation).

I will have a look at the weekend - can anyone confirm now?

first of all this bal mode is awesome am totally addicted!!

1 question if someone could answer for me? does anyone know where i could find a detailed explanation of what stats like reponse, agility, etc are for exactly? and why dont some stats go up no matter what?

Some stats are permanent, ie they can't be improved. Response is how quickly your player responds to aerial balls, I think.

does anyone else get the feeling that your fellow team-mates don't particularly like you?

sometimes i don't get a touch for ages, with my own team preferring to kick the ball to touch than give it to me.

maybe its my face...

I seriously lol'd so hard :lmao:

Hey cool saw this thread and it was cool to read:WORSHIP:

But somehow i never got a rating higher then 8 yet in BAL, is it even possible lol:Y1

At the moment my positions are AMF & CMF. Is there anyway i can play a different position. I've signed contracts with desired positions of WG and SMF but i never play in those positions. Always CMF.

I think you just play where they want you to. I'm a left winger, started off with just that position ticked. 3 seasons in and my player has the following positions ticked... LW, RW, CF, AMC, and CM. I only played CM for a half as well and its ticked as a position I can play?? OH well.

Advice for anyone considering joining PSG...DON'T. there defence is crap, midfield is slow and second to every ball and there strikers cant finish. im top scorer wiv 6 from DMF. awful.

After reading this thread I ordered myself a copy. Like many others I've only played one mode, BAL.

My story so far...Made a left winger, which is where I play for real. I ticked that I could play both sides as I do play on the right quite often. Had an average scout match and went to Wigan. Played about 7 training matches. I hit both posts and had a goal disallowed for offside before I finally found the net in the first game for the "A" training side. Because of that I got onto the subs bench where some good sub performances got me secured in the squad and I started playing more and more minutes on the pitch.

I played on the right of midfield for Wigan and scored 4 goals in the first season, followed by 6 goals and couple of assists 2nd season. Wigan are awful going forward, Heskey scored 3 in 40 matches...only scoring his first goal with about 5 games to go. I decided I'd move after 2 seasons at that hell hole.

I moved to Blackburn as they had finished 5th previously and were in europe. Thankfully I didn't have to go through any training matches. Straight onto the right of midfield for Blackburn where I've scored 9 goals and 5 assists so far this season (3/4 through). I'm loving cutting in from the right and making runs into the box. Since the 2nd half of the season started I've really been on form and I'm a definate starter these days, unless I'm totally shattered.

May move on at the end of the season as Blackburn seem to be on a downward slope on my game. We shall see who comes in for me.

Top player by the way. I use the wide camera view following the ball. I struggled to get to grips with the original camera view as everytime I had the ball on the wing and tried to cut in I went in directions I wasn't trying to go...due to the camera moving and changing my view.

Loving this mode by the way.

nice to see another story. surprised u didnt like wigan as i had a great season there. the camera angle takes a while to get used to but once u crack it, it makes the mode even more enjoyable.

i like this mode soo much , it needs more modifications but its too good

i hope they can release a patch for it that adds some excitement to the game like u made some friends from players & some personal life modes in it

To add to my story, been playing tonight.

Finished my 3rd season, at Blackburn, and I ended up with 11 goals and half a dozen assists from the right of midfield. We got to the uefa cup final but lost to man utd 3-2 :( I scored and got an assist during the final. The league was a different matter...16th.

So I had decided I was going to leave. I waited to see what offers I got, first couple of weeks I didn't get much to write home about. But half way through the off season Real Madrid came in for me! Then Arsenal! Then Chelsea!!!! I went to Chelsea as they were ranked number 1 and their squad was amazing (think of the chelsea team in real life...and add rooney, owen, van persie in the mix as well).

As I expected I was put into the training matches rather than right into the first team. I was beginning to think I'd made a bad move as the competition for a winger position was world class. Rooney is deployed wide, van persie, joe cole, malouda, shevy shenko, kalou...ok hes crap.

After 3 impressive training matches I got put into the A team, then another good performance got me onto the bench. It took 3-4 sub appearances to get me my starting place. I'd played very well constantly getting 6.5 and above for my rating, even an 8 for one game. I took Van Persie's place in the team, playing RW. We are unbeaten so far this season having won around 10 and drawn 3.

I scored my first chelsea goal against old club Wigan with a spectacular lob! It was such a sexy goal I was tempted to save it. I didn't use the lob button. It was just how the ball came to me and how my player was leaning back...just gave it enough power to lob the keeper from about 25 yards :D. Loving the chelsea formation and the squad is unbelievably good with Drogba, owen and anelka to choose from up front. With me and Rooney on the flanks running our socks off playing some quality football.

Great stuff.

just wondering, what are your stats like? all red n orange??

i'm into my 2nd season @ Newcastle. still struggling but manage to get some starts. scored one and one assist but its nearing mid season. =[

i think this is the only thing in PES09 that is making not wanna go buy FIFA. i know many ppl have crash issue, but if your lucky enough to be able to run it stably then its just so much fun!

i can see this over taking Master League in the long run as the face of the franchise.

also wondering if BAL online mode, u can play with upto 4 frens, but is it against AI only???

Waltzing Midfielder hopes to make his mark

A plethora of scouts the length and breadth of Italy descended on the Ligurian port of Genoa this weekend for the annual GISS trials. Virtually every club from Serie A to Serie C2 will be represented, as 500 or so youngsters from all around the globe await the opportunity of a lifetime.

One player in particular who is hoping to cath the eye is Greek/Australian Nick Terazakis who currently plys his trade with Melbourne Phoenix.

Having excelled at under 14 and under 16 level in his native homeland, the possibility of a move to an A League club seemed on the cards, but the pull of a finding a club in Europe was too strong.

With just 90 minutes to make an impression, the diminutive but skillful winger faces the biggest game of his life, knowing that an eye-catching performance could be the first step of a burgeoning career ahead...

That sounds promising db...
Meanwhile Mansouri has played 5 or 6 consecutive matches for Grenoble albeit always as a sub...
He played a pretty impressive second half against Lyon where he got a mention.
uptil now he hasn't scored yet but has provided some assists.
In the winter transfer window he got offers from Toulouse, Lorient, Le mans and Nantes...
Toulouse and Lorient are just above Grenoble, so that was never the question.
Le Mans seemed the best moe, but they wanted to play Mansouri as DMF and since he is an extemely poorly tackle...that wasn't the best choice.
Nates also wanted to play Mansouri as a DMF...
So finally he choose the stay at Grenoble. Coach Bazdarevic thanked him for his loyalty....by signing another AMF Galoppa...
But he plays Galoppa as a LMF and always uses Mansouri as a supersub...the first match after the winter stop was a 0-0 at the Parc des Princes against PSG where mansouri played a very good second half and nearly missed the winning goal.
Next came the derby against leaders St-Etienne. Mansouri came on as a substitute around the hour. At that moment Grenoble where holding St-Etienne at a 0-0 draw. Mansouri had a very unfortunate match. He scarely had ball possession and in extra-time he gave away the ball which resulted in St-Etienne's winning goal in a 1-0 loss for Grenoble...
Mansouri hasn't spoken to Bazdarevic since then, but he'a afraid for next training session..

My progression of become a legend is slow. still at the season after my report. (6th or 7th season)

improvement or not?

No mate my stats are rubbish to be honest. I'm working hard on my technical abilities right now to get my shots and passing better so I can hold my own. My speed stats are in the 80's and I have a few in the 75 area. My passing and shot stats are 70-75 range. Stamina is 79 and needs some work as I'm playing every game and I just get tired by 60 min, due to being over played.

What position do you play? I try and make up for my stats with some hard work. Getting a few interceptions helps your rating, along with pass completions obviously.

update on my bal carreer:
as i was finishing my 2nd season, i was hoping to change team because i was playing as amf and im a ss. i scored 12 goals, 10 assists, was in the team of season and got called to play for portugal during the world cup. wow, first time playing for portugal and already in the world cup, carlos queiroz took a chance and took it very well. i played every match, coming in as a sub, mainly as a amf but managed to scored 2 goals and portugal won the world cup! YAY! what next? big teams coming for me, manchester, juve, inter, ac ? no, just totenham! so i went to london. not the best choice, they bought villa, so i only played once as a CF. Most time a play as a CM and i suck! i was hoping to change during midseason, got contract offered by arsenal and chelsea but only to play as a CM so im still with totenham. ill finish this season and then change to see if some team will take a chance with me as a CF or SS. ive scored 7 goals, 2 assists, play for portugal as a starter but things are not the best at the moment. Im like Kuyt now, CF playing in midfield only i suck. Will i ever play again as a forward? time will tell.

It does soul...but in the picture i have, De Leeuw's hair is totally different...well it's not that important and sorry for the off-topic anyway...

Gerd your way off. Spooky looks like a dutch Shia LaBeouf.

Congrats on winning the world cup Secsi. I'm yet to be called up to the England squad :( Can't seem to find the net much this season, even though I'm playing in a better team in a more attacking position. A starter for Chelsea though :D going for a treble.

damn... left juve after half of my 2nd season way in front in league still in league cup and in euro championship..... i had added rangers and celtic to the league at the start of my career, and rangers wanted me so i went to my heroes.... end of season no knew contract from rangers arrrgghhhh..... oh well villareal here i come
