That is a pretty big claim Zain, I hear you say.
However through simple trial and error I can conclude what I suspect causes the slowdown in PES 2008.
Now, let me start off by saying my PC isn't the top end of the range nor is it at the lower end. I have a 3200+ AMD Athlon 64 bit processor, 6800 GT 256mb ram, 1 GB DDR2 ram and am running XP. So as you can see, I won't be running this game on high setting on the highest resolution however medium on 1024x768 seems to do the job.
Secondly, I have the LOD mixer and Kitserver installed, allowing me to fiddle with the graphical options. I play on Medium details, 1024x768 with LOD Mixer set at about 0.05. Normally I do not get much slow down, the only real case of it is when the keeper makes a save and then goes to kick the ball out from the goal box. Apart from that, everything runs pretty smooth.
So how did I come to my conclusion. Well, I was playing the Master League and came across Tottenham, who play at 'Antlion Stadium'. Now the slow down in this game was atrocious at best. I'm talking complete and utter 10 fps style play anywhere near the 18 yard box. Almost unplayable and certainly causing me grief. Anyway, I decide to quit out and turn down my LOD mixer graphics to see if it would make a difference. The graphics looked appalling but I figured it would help. It didn't. At all. Still the same shocking slowdown as last time.
I came to the conclusion that is must be the stadium, as I had just played multiple games and no slow down, as well as the fact that I was not running anything in the background on my desktop. However I needed to be sure, so I decided to run a few tests on different variants you can set when selecting stadiums.
I changed the time to night, the weather to fine and the turf to lattice. No difference, still laggy as. I change the turf to no pattern, thinking it might be that. No difference. I even bumped down my resolution to 800x600. Still god awful slow.
So then I tried the Konami Stadium. Ran like a dream, no slow down, everything perfect again.
So my conclusion stands, stadiums are causing the slow downs. Avoid Antlion Stadium at all cost.
What does this mean for us? Maybe if stadiums get implemented into Kitserver, we might be cured of slow down (or it may even be the opposite, where it causes slowdown!). Maybe people can hunt for more stadium that causes their slowdowns and let us know.
However, I cannot test other peoples 'rigs' and don't know if this affects PS2, PS3, Xbox360 etc and Antlion stadium may be fine to other people.
But I thought I would share this with everyone and maybe it might give an insight for patcher's to look at.
