Re: Serie A Thread - 2008/2009 Season
don't u think u're forgetting something
Budan-miccoli could be a very good partnership. they might complete each others perfectly..... i mean if budan will ever be fit
anyhow i wouldn't mention maccarone and frick along with the other guys u mentioned.... maccarone and frick are pretty average compared to those guys.
i would rather put in the same page of the guys u mentioned palermo's couple, sampdoria's couple (bonazzoli-cassano) and fiorentina's couple (gila-mutu).
Gerd about Dembele's rumour it would be nice to see him in italy, but unless we'll sell somebody in jannuary, i can't see him coming in palermo. We already have a pretty solid starting couple; budan-miccoli. and cavani came up with some great performance lately (as budan is injured).... not to mention the young georgian prospect mchelidze (who seems to be very interesting), and the young italian prospect lanzafame, who still didn't have a chance to prove his quality.
so it would be very hard for him to find some space here in palermo.... but hey, u never know :-D
concerning the fact that serie a is today the most "competition-wise" balanced league in europe (actually bundi is as competitive as serie a, but serie a still has something more in terms of overall quality - and by saying that i don't mean to disprespect budensliga, wich is a league i adore.... but seriously i can't see anything better than serie a this season out there), this is due to 2 factors.
1- the fall of the top 4. as a matter of fact the italian top clubs today are weaker than 8 years ago, for instance.
2- the unbelievable, constant and continuous growth of almost every other club in serie a.
it was a collective growth. almost every club, torino, samp, napoli, lazio, fiorentina, atalanta, catania, genoa, sampdoria, udinese started a smart, penny-wise growth project many years ago.... and that's the reason of their achievements.
it's a process that doesn't involve just 2, 3 or 4 clubs (as in premiership or la liga)... this project involves almost the whole league. almost every club, from the poor ones (like catania, atalanta, torino) to the mid class teams followed a specific progress in the last 3 years. it's not something that happened in one week.
we're not talking about a millionaire buying a club and signing 3, 4, 5 big stars for ridiculous wages.
we're talking about smart, knowledgeable presidents who hired great sport directors, to let them work together with great coaches in building a good team with a few money in 3, 4 years.
and as a result today, if we compare all the serie a clubs, from the end of the table to the 5th position, with their british, spanish, german, and french counterparts, we can appreciate the fruits of this work, as almost every italian club will appear to be better than his english, spanish, german, french counterparts, under every aspect (coaching staff, individual technique of the players, tactical variety, financial administration).
it seems crazy when u think how poor this league was, under all theese aspects (except the quality of the coaches) up till 5 years ago.
i think it's all due to the money. up till our clubs were rich, they used to apply the same crazy policies some british clubs use today.... then, when the money disappeared, we had to find out a way to preserve our quality with less funds.... and we ended by having a league wich is even more competitive and beautyful to follow than 5, 8 years ago.
Milanista said:This season we are having a boom in strikers in Serie A. So much class for almost every team. Milito-Palladino, Lavezzi-Denis, Maccarone-Calaio/Frick, Zarate-Pandev (Theyre crazy!), Toto-Quaglia-Pepe, Amoruso-Bianchi, Brienza (wtf he's suddenly becoming the new Miccoli!).... etc etc. Every team is dangerous up front.
