Petrol Heads thread.. Post a pic of your car!

I wish accidents were always that simple to resolve. My missus literally rubbed the side of a BMW 5 series with our MG one morning on the way to work. It would have been a quick and simple touch up job to fix the BMW.... but no! they had to go the insurance route and take it to a BMW garage!!! WTF?

:((That's what happen's when it's w*****s you don't know though and they always want to go that route. My dad's a mechanic, so he's going to get a second hand bumper and get it resrayed, might cost £120 quid, but I suppose that's better than having to buy a whole new one from my mate's point of view.

Yeah thats right, I could have got their BMW sorted within a day from a guy I know at a VW BodyShop. He has done some of my cars in the past (ones that I have bought which have had scrapes or dents) and has charged me reasonable Prices. BMW probably charged about £500 for the damage....

BMW probably have, any maintence work they even do on car's is over priced. Where as if you take it to a smaller garage, it won't cost half the price.

 Looks awesome imo.

Nice work Peter! :)

Tried to pass mine three or four times, after spending something approaching a grand on lessons and tests I had to give up at that point. I wouldn't have minded but I falied the first test for "going too slow", which the instructor said beforehand was something they'd say when they'd had too many passes that day. I was never going to pass after that (although it took me two or three more tests to realise it)...

I just bought my first car ever, a week ago :))

Its an old Peugeot 306 - Got it for £500 from me Bro. It would have probably cost nearer £850 - £1000. Bargain!

Super Duper!!!!

Now is a great time to get a car if you already have the money saved. People are desperate to sell. Will defo shop for a bargain, and get the car checked over by a few knowledgable friends.

Well the going rate for lessons is 20-25 an hour, and MOST people need at leat 40-50 hours before they are at a level to pass a test, thats without private practice.

It can get expensive, and was one of the main reasons why I wanted to pass first time so badly.

Booking a test is £60, and then the insurance to cover you in your insturctors cars without the instructor etc ect

I had about 25 - but I could have done it at around 17. But I turned up late for my first theory test.......and my second theory test they said I failed, but they were lying bastards, because I new every fucking answer!!!!

So I did a few extra lessons before I took the final test :))

40-50 hours!?!?!? :LMAO: Fucking hope not. The average is about 30 ain't it? I only had 18 hours learning.

Nope, the average is 50. My instuctor told me on my first lesson that I'd need about 50 hours, but in reality, they expect you to have done your test long before then.

I think the 50 hours mark is just a sort of guarenteed pass almost, at that point, if you fail, then you're not gonna pass any time soon.

Cant' rememeber how many hours I had, it was defo over 30. That was doing 2 hour lessons each time.

Although I booked my test later than I wanted to because of financial issues!

Its a macho thing though isn't it Tim. Blah, blah "I picked up driving after only a few hours" Yes, some people learn these things quickly, or they may have had driving experience when they were younger. For most normal people though you have to get over confidence issues, crappy instructors, learning in busy areas etc.

Its true, I had a really good instructor - He helped my Auntie to pass aswell, so he deserves a medal :))

I did mine ten years ago though - they were around £12.50 a lesson then I think - they have gone up a bit.

50 lessons does sound too much though. I thought I took too many at 25!

Most decent instructors do 2 hours. 1 hour just isn't enough to cover all the manoveurs and a general drive each lesson. Well not in London anyway.

My instructor would make me drive to the next student in an hour and on the way we would stop and do parking, three point turns and reverse around corners etc.

I would have prefered 2 hours as I used to love my lessons - but an hour was fine for me.

Well I think the ABS on my car is absolutely buggered. :CURSE:

Possibly locked itself up somehow, or there's something lodged in one of the wheels.

When it's stationary, turned off, I can't press the pedal down at all, and when in motion it won't go further down than half way, and I don't think I've suddenly become massively weaker overnight...

Plus if you need to slam on, it judders about and you get an awful sound to go along with it.

I'd better not have to shell out for new brakes...I'm a student...
