PES2010 discussion thread

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Sorry man, I just hated his attitude and overall mentality during the CL final. Total lack of class when the chips are down IMO, and needed to resort to assaulting Puyol after being completely silenced for 80 minutes.

From what I saw he was the only one who actually looked like doing anything, had our midfield provided him with the service then there would've been abother candidate for MotM. I saw that tackle on Puyol (both the 'body check' and the slide tackle where he barely touched him) but what about Puyol's play acting? In my oppinion his attitude was far worse than Ronaldo. But, alas, this isn't the forum to debate that. ;)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

so PSM3 wil fly to Japan to play PES2010 ,they wil have the new issue out on july 9th.

Think it deffo wont be playble at E3 then!

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Because both J1 and J2 are already licensed and included in the J league version so why not include them in PES anyway?

I'd love seeing both Brazilian and Argentinian leagues in too. Plus all Copa libertadores participants as well.

I would love to see this too. Having the Copa Libertadores would be great.

Makes you wonder why they insist on crippling their own development.

...and the Brazilian Serie B and the Mexican Primera. Russian League would be great, Bundesliga return would be excellent (which is a possibility), second devisions for select leagues would be fantastic; 'colaship, Serie B, Ligue 2 and Segunda. If we had all that the league count would be a very respectable eleven, seventeen if you're splitting them into divisions, plus the customary twenty or so seperate teams too would be even greater if we had Copa Libertadores participants. I wouldn't expect them all to be fully licensed either, just as long as they're there.

to be honest...licensed or not, doesn't really matter...but if the Copa Lib teams are there...and J League...that will SO make this one of the best...hahaha (of course game play have to live up to the hype)

Bundesliga...any word on if that is coming back or not? (licensed or even unlicensed?)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Yeah exactly. As long as there is a good edit mode I dont care if the leagues are licensed or not. Just put as many as you can.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

can someone point out to konami though:-

ETO is not the fastest and best dribbler in the world.
Puyol cannot outpace everyone regardless.
and the million others that made the game a farce online.
The game should be about football not sprinting as fast as possible with the fastest players otherwise I would sign "the Bolt" and win every game..LOL!!

Can we have a button of control to shoulder barge I know Special Controls should do it but only if your up against Wallcott every other speed demon just keeps on running.

Yeah the only being able to jostle at slow speed is annoying...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I hope they make PES 2010 the way PES 5 was in terms of watching a seasoned PES player against a noob. Anyone can pick up a controller and win the way that the game allows dribbling past any defender. Shooting also seems very random.

Against mates,
I usually play a tight midfield passing game but it just isnt rewarded in this years version which is dominated by 1-2s followed by a chipped through ball.
I haven't lost as many games in PES before as in PES2009 and this makes me very bitter.

I agree - i used to think i was decent at the game but PES2009 has made me doubt myself! I've lost too many games online but I'm sure that's cause it's flawed!

For me, PES5/6 is the best because anybody with solid football tactics can win on that merit because the game allows you to do so and outrageous dribbling play is discouraged because it almost never works. In 2009, it's just way too easy to move two strikers up to the back of the defensive line and then play a 1-2 to split them open. Not to mention by the time you finish that you're 1 on 1 with the keeper, and it's so easy to do a shot feint in this game it's ridiculous...

Oh yeah Jess, I don't support Bendtner in any way, shape, or form and every time he steps on the pitch I get pissed. Remember that time he couldn't seal those 4 clear cut chances at goal in 3 minutes? Kid's a twat right now.

What's the deal with e3 actually? Should we be expecting something tomorrow or in the coming days (pictures, video)?

PES5 was probably the best of the PES series for me. It's funny how a lot of the people who favour the R1 game thats now become the way PES plays hated it, but love PES4 which for me was the first bad sign of how things were to become.

I loved the balance in PES5, defending was just right, midfield was just right and attacking was just right, once you knew how to work space. That was the only version of the game I used to really enjoy playing online as well. I used to use Udinese nearly exclusively and could beat most people I came up against apart from the guys who were actually good at the game and picked Arsenal. Henry and Co. were immense back then if used properly. I did manage to surprise a good few people with Iaquinta and Di Michele, with Di Natale coming on with 15mins to go and running rings around a tired defence. :D

I hope this rebuild of the game addresses the balance of the game and gets it back to what it was then, along with removing of the on-rails feeling, this could be the best iteration yet, if they do it right...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I don't know why but I always thought of PES6 as being a slightly improved upon version of PES5.

Why do so many folk seemingly prefer 5 over 6?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The only football game i've enjoyed (1v1) online is PES5, every other game since has just been about who has the faster players and can do the most chipped through balls (including FIFA).

Defending was an art - the use of super cancel to get your defenders into the right place (nothing better than having your keeper rounded and a defender diving headering it off the line :D) and to push players off the ball in particular made defending just feel right. That combined with the fact that if you just held the pressure button then you would give away loads of fouls (which I think is right, holding a tackle button should be the equivalent of sticking legs out with bad timing and fouling, not doing good tackles) or get skinned easily.
So people would have to defend properly or give away loads of free kicks, so I used to spend ages in training mode with the teams I used online (normally Tottenham, Roma, Atletico, Valencia) practicing free kicks with their best free kick taker until I could score a fair percentage of them from various positions. I scored a lot of free kicks online, anything within 32m had a good chance :).

Then, the use of super cancel in attacking positions to leave the ball, get your striker in a better position to get their head to a cross (or set up a volley/overhead instead of a header) or to nip in front of the defender to get to the ball first from a bad through ball etc. made attacking feel right and super cancel was so responsive and unlike the following games in the PES series, it didn't slow your player down when you tried it.

PES3 and PES5 are the only two games which I think have got the balance between defending and attacking right - every other game seems to favour attacking if you get what I mean, hard to explain. Like you'd hardly ever see a game with 8 or more goals.

@ Badgerman - PES6 was ruined by the fucked up shooting system (PES5's was great, still the best ever probably), unresponsive/ineffective super cancel (players would slide off each other if you tried pushing them) and how players like Ronaldo/Eto'o/Adriano would be almost unstoppable, as well as cheap cutback goals being extremely easy (to the point where it's all most people online would try to attack with), almost all headers going over the bar and the fact that free kicks from distance were impossible to score because keepers reacted so fast (sometimes before you even kicked the ball).

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I love nearly every aspect of PES5 (or the Japanese equivalents). The passing and shooting were nearly perfect. In PES6, they messed with the passing and shooting and made the dribbling more effective.

However, PES5 is unplayable to me because of the AUTO SIDESTEP. It absolutely, positively ruins the realism of teh game when you see 100 sidesteps in a 10 minute match. It's funny how every time I put PES5 in, the whistle blows and I play my first pass off the kick-off and I think, "fucking awesome" only to be completely deflated when I see my first AUTO Sidestep 2 seconds later. 10 more seconds and I've shut off the PS2.

My dream in terms of play mechanics would be:
passing + shooting = PES5
dribbling = PES6

I didn't mention Bendtner.

my bad, someone else below you mentioned a Danish striker

Anyways, Rob92 is spot on with his post. PES6 doesn't have the same flow as it does in PES5, and of course I still can't find a copy of WE10 anywhere so I think I'll stick with my WE9LE.

BTW, if anyone's been reading Engadget, they've arrived at E3!

Let's see if KONAMI releases any info this week, here's hoping

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

PES6 had more focus on attack, I still put hundreds of hours into it though.

Due to the balance of PES5, defensively it was awesome. Certain teams/players had the defensive star, so it was harder to break them down. It didn't matter what team you used against them and whether you had pace in your team, AC Milan and Italy are great examples of this. You had to work to get your goals.

PES5 did have some minor issues though, hand balls were extremely frustrating and the refs never played advantage properly. It didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the game though.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

As far as I remember the best version is the Korean version of PES 5. Liveware something? I remember I patched that one and it felt perfect, pretty much like PES 5 but tweaked to perfection.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The best is yet to come.....;);)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I've said it before and I'll say it again; PES5 is the most complete football game I have ever played. Not just the gameplay but the graphics were brilliant for the PS2, the edit mode was great, the stadium line-up was huge and there was a nice selection of teams.

As other people have said the balance between attack and defence was perfect. I would often play as Milan and the defence was an absolute joy, and even though they were not that quick they worked as a unit so well that it was tough to break them down. Also the playmakers were special and were the heartbeat of the team. It was these things that made PES what it was. Since PES5 I think much of this has been lost and the series shifted towards attack-orientated gameplay that held pace above all else.

If PES2010 can find the balance of classic PES and deliver a game designed for those of us that want to play realistic football then I will be extremely happy.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I've got nothing but praises for WE9LE, it's just such a solid game, it's got the basics of football down to a T. I don't really experience the handballs much, but I understand the frustration there.

anyways, for an OT piece of discussion I read from PESFan that we'll be getting news from KONAMI by tomorow at E3.
