Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I've clocked over a whopping 400 hours of Become a Legend and hope they expand on it. Especially the god awful AI and the scripting. It infuriates me that as soon as I am substituted the opposition tend to score and moreso when the ball passes through the goalkeepers arm, leg, chest or all three enroute to goal.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

PES is the only game series I've seen that actually cheats. I mean scripting is one thing but actual cheating in terms of refereeing decisions, balls passing through goalkeepers' limbs, taking control of your players, taking control of your shots, etc.

Saying that I think the structure on BAL has far more depth than FIFA, it's still in need of a few improvements like player development, team management and a few more leagues but in terms of a career simulation it's the most realistic out there. However the AI and game engine on BAP is simply superb. The indicator helps your positioning, your teammates pass when you want it, play through balls when you want it, make runs when you ask for it, shoot early if you tell them to, all at the touch of a button, plus they know how to play between themselves, the level of control and responsibility this gives you is fantastic and really eases the transition from controlling the team to playing a role within it. If PES can add that to their already brilliant structure, which is entirely possible, then BAL will be damn near perfect.

A guy at WENB-forum came with this:

Now In PES 5 we had the choice of kits, when I mean choice I mean the choice to choose, Shirts, Shorts and socks.
This, in my opinion was good, because, with the choice to choose ur team's whole kit and COM's, there was very little chance of kit similarities with both teams especially when playing master league.

I completely agree with that. That was a very good feature! What do you guys think?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

This cheating thing that people talk about is something i actually love. Probably because I find the game too easy anyway, so when it ups the ante I just think of it as momento shifting.

Seriously, scoring when the computer has every decision going its way is brilliant. However, I can respect that for folks lacking my talent it might not be as enjoyable.

Why the hell did Konami take it out?

Well I'm pretty aware that I am brilliant at the game (because, well, I am) so this might be unique to myself.

But it's honestly many magnitudes better beating the computer at it's very hardest than it is sticking 10 past Wigan.

It adds a different element, would be a bit bland otherwise.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

You're such a wind-up merchant

On the topic of the AI cheating - i'd rather it not be there and the game be more difficult for realistic reasons, but PES single player is too easy when it's not on "cheat mode", at least it's a bit of a challenge when it is cheating.
It can be infuriating though (especially in cup matches) when shit keepers pull off world class saves, shit strikers score long range goals, shit midfielders play inch perfect passes/crosses etc. in the last minutes of games, and your good players turn to shit with the only possible way to score sometimes being a manual pass one-on-one (and that's rarely possible because of the 8-direction bullshit...).

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I'm not intentionally being a wind up merchant here, the fact of the matter is that when the game does begin to favour the computer, a lot of people tend to blame the computer instead of their lack of skill.

Just saying.

Okay, maybe that bit was a bit windy uppy, but I'd be genuinely disappointed if they removed the cheating as it's what keeps me going.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I understand where you're coming from, but I like to have fair games, whether it be offline or online - when i'm beaten because the opposition were better than me then I have no problem with that.

Quite a few games seem to use "cheats" to beat the player.

It's as if some game developers either can't be bothered to, or don't think it's possible to program any intelligent AI which can provide a challenge to a human with a bit of skill.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I don't lose to the computer anymore actually.

In my current ML session, I have won every game (apart from a few friendlies) for the past 3 years. I remember being majorly pissed off because I drew the last game of the season once which messed everything up.

But yeah, I just don't know how to lose. It just doesn't happen to me.

Hmmm. I've never stood back and took the time to appreciate that I am a bit too good at this game. Even online I had a win percentage between 80-90. Perhaps here I will bow down to the opinion of the masses as it's only fair.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Badgerman the cheating in terms of momentum shift is fine but a ball passing through your goalkeeper is not.
I have also only played through 3 seasons of ML but it's just too easy.
My 2nd season in D1got me the treble without one big signing.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

yeah, you're all really great at PES.
We adore you for that, but can you please open a new thread for that.
Thanks

I'm not sure if you're talking exclusively about 2008/2009 here, because my ML experience only really goes as far as a half dozen seasons in WE10 and a couple of seasons in 2008. Admittedly, 2008 had it's share of bizarre moments, but I would put that down to poor coding and AI than an actual script deciding that the ball should go in the net now or everyone will die.

In WE10, the cheating for me was limited to a few unlucky bobbles here and there as well as teammates crashing into each other. Thankfully I had Akinfeev, who handles everything as you'd expect a goalkeeper to do so 99% of the time. That's not to say that he was error free, but no goalkeeper is so I let it slide.

Looking back to my 2008 ML experience, I remember being miffed at the fact that skill wasn't deciding games half the time. If 2009 was the same then fair point, I've probably refamiliarised with WE10 a bit too much, but it's just so good. The balance is spot on and the cheating genuinely feels like momentum. The friendlies you arrange at the end of the season are perhaps the only time that I go into a match where the oppo has everything going it's way from the start (playing the likes of the World XI) and I genuinely love those games more than the regular season games.

Also, it's been a part of PES for years now. It's become a staple of the series, that and terrible commentary.

You guys that find the game too easy (winning trebles in ML etc). What teams and players do you use? I found ISSPE/PES easier up to PES4, after that, PES5 onwards it became tougher. My last big silverware was the CL in PES4. Since then, i have only really won league cup titles and struggled to keep up with the league leaders, at best (sometimes losing out on the title on the last day or two).

Admittedly i use poor teams and search out unfashionable signings, so i have my work cut out. But i'm pretty sure if i played as a big team (Inter, Barca etc) i'd be winning silverware all the time. But those teams don't appeal to me at all.

agreed, i always play medium/small teams, u can't play the easy cutback bs, ur shots need to be done with good player position and u gotta play a more strategic football. Pes6 is superior to pes5 when u play with small teams, with big teams is an arcadish game

I've had various mixes of ML seasons. I always play as Portsmouth, unfortunately the players are completely underrated because we aren't Man Utd so I end up replacing the spine by getting a keeper, defender, attacking mid and a striker. Essentially I replace the spine of the team because the default Pompey side is no better than the default ML players. As Pomp obviously have quite an old squad I end up replacing players earlier than you would normally, but even then I don't go for the world beaters. Michael Dawson was my replacement for Linvoy Primus and he did a job for years.

In another game I did one of those dream team scenarios where you shove all of the best players into your squad, set their development curve as lasting and put their ages at 15. Although these hand of God scenarios don't usually interest me in the long run, I found it great fun in WE10. You could fanny about and really test out the game mechanics, seeing what you can and what you can't do. It also threw up some interesting figures, such as Zico, Brian Laudrup and Rooney battling it out for the top scorer. Last time I checked, Rooney was on 380, Zico on 350 and Laudrup around 340, all 3 averaging more than a goal a game.

I think I dominate games because of my style of play. I am fantastic at defending, I mean truly top noch. I rarely concede thanks to a combination of techniques, you're looking at precision use of the super cancel, knowing when to run, slide tackling in advance and bringing the keeper out.

I could win each game by 10-12 if I focused solely on scoring goals, but I find the mechanical rounding of the keeper tedious after a while. Instead, I focus solely on long shots. Most of my ML games involve Zico, in the attacking mid role, getting off about 8 shots a game, as well as aiming at goal with any freekick within 40m.

I also shoot from corners directly because I can.

The game (WE10 here) is so perfectly in tune with my style of play. It allows you to experiment and just have a laugh really.

I create a team from scratch and usually get 2 youngsters that I groom alongside Jaric, Guiterrez and co. Then I go for the Kaizer, Schwarz, Orrelano and other young players.

I also don't do the big name signings unless they are reborn.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I couldn't care less, players re-born or not, essentially they arent the same player as before, just look the same, albeit not realistic. Although I guess you could always have in 20 seasons a whole game of brand new different players not one the same as before, which could be awesome... but I dont really see it...

The kits should be changeable like PES5 I agree with that... Edit mode should be as good as it used to be, ATLEAST! Give us the new kit templates!

About the cheating, I kinda hated it, but I see it as being one of the best things... it pissed me off so much that it just added to the emotion of my ML, I mean without I would of probably just cruised ML easily! I always started from scratch and looked for youngsters to mould into great players, hated buying all the amazing players and well known ones, hence why my mates got annoyed when someone they didnt know scored against em and was soo good :)

But the so called cheating, or AI stepping its game up, was actually something I liked... in real life you get games where everything doesn't go your way, some teams have it all season, but yeah created real emotion for me lol, getting to a cup final, to mis ever chance, keeper saves them all, they get one good break and finish it 1-0 and its over... gets the player more involved though, which is a good thing... feels like a real season and how pissed of you would be I suppose... like Chelsea vs Barca lol I would of been Drogba at this point.

Aye, this is what I'm talking about. To pretend that there isn't injustices in football is wishful thinking. Infact, some of the best football stories come out of such matches. As a Pomp fan, we got absolutely hammered when we knocked Man Utd out of the FA Cup, genuinely mullered. They hit the post, there were 6-yard scrambles, fingertip saves and they even rounded the keeper and with no one in sight, couldn't get the ball past the line.

Just because you get angry at the game, it doesn't mean that Konami ballsed up. On the contrary, it means that they got it right, scarily so infact.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I liked Master league up until PES 2008 I think. It was all a bit samey by PES6 but I carried on and enjoyed it to an extent. The struggle in the first couple of seasons can be both painful and very rewarding at the same time. Clawing your way through the season with the most awful players (besides Valeny who is a god amongst men!) and holding on to leads from the moment you score the first goal. The magic master league moments happen in those 2 seasons for me. As you progress your team gets stronger and stronger but not to the extent where you can go out and smash teams every week. You may buy 2-3 players in the january transfer window but may be 2 of them will get a couple of injuries and struggle to get a decent morale arrow when they come back. After the 3rd season you get hold of the best players (not the very best because they like to turn you down despite offering the maximum price and salary in the game!!) and the score margins go up and the fun factor and competitiveness subsequently dwindles into the skyline

I like the fantasy aspect in this particularly part of the game, that is the playing with fake players that have their own faces, stats, playing styles. Its just the rest of the fantasy aspect ruins it for me. I just want to be able to have that team of fake players playing in a realistic environment, proper league structure, proper teams, proper transfer system, the works. Take the heart(Valeny, Huylens, Ximelez, Ivarov, Jaric, the lot of those mutant freakes!) of the current Master league into the new generation.

In the back of my mind I kind of think the master league will be very similar after the press releases not going into a great amount of detail, but I'm pretty much just making assumptions as the current time so who knows.
