Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread (demo out tomorrow!)

I live in the US, I have usually pre-ordered from Shopto in the past. However, when I tried to update my card details which I know has money, I got a message saying that my card was denied. I tried my wife's card as well and it gave me the same error. What gives?

Has something changed since last year on this site?

Anyone can give me an alternate site where I can pre-order the game without dealing with so much crap.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread (demo out tomorrow!)

Oh my lord, I would say I cant believe someone said that. But the bottom line is Jamez, I really would be suprised if they hadnt said that. It's typical of some peoples perceived idea of how football plays/feels.

Its the footballers game of choice, its a true simulation, with too many reasons for me to be bothered listing now.

I said to myself I wont ever quote this but when speaking to Joe Cole in Vegas, on Fifa, he said "What ? its a game for kids". We discussed and agreed on everything the same about PES and its magic, he said loads of Pro's play it. They have had leagues in JT's house. Class. They just would prefer all the Premier League kits. Lol. I told him about the patches and he couldnt believe it. He also said his player on PES is far better than him, and better looking. Modesty.

Those other fans will never be won over, for me they cant appreciate the concept, so its wasted on them anyway. But I'm genuinely happy if they enjoy Fifa, its very good at what it does. Brilliant in fact. It looks like real football, but I need to feel real football, appreciate everything that Konami do so very well, even with the needless flaws.

This post will be quoted for centuries to come

:APPLAUD:

Great post mate.

Animations merely add to the experience, they do not define it. I have been enjoying the FIFA10 demo in the main, but my enjoyment of it more often than not has not really been about the gameplay as such, but more the technical prowess on show.

As far as capturing/simluating the real game goes, FIFA still struggles as the developers philosophy appears to be that football is an incredibly complex game, when in fact they couldn't be further from the truth in the assertion. Yes, there are complexities to the sport, but these are found pretty much exclusively in the tactical and strategic side of the game. I appreciate that EA are trying to give as much control as possible to the player, but 5 different dribbling/movement speeds is a bit much, as is assigning a vast array of tricks to the right analogue stick. There is something rather mechanical feeling about using the left stick to guide your player and using the right stick to engineer flair. It just doesn't replicate at all the instinctive nature of playing the game for real. This, coupled with constant alternating of the two triggers when looking to dribble effectively makes me feel like I am maneuvering a truck as opposed to an athlete.

Don't get me wrong, I will as always be picking FIFA up on it's release and giving it thorough play, but I just get the feeling I will be left somewhat frustrated again somewhere down the line.

By the sounds of things I get the impression PES2010 will not have the initial wow factor that maybe FIFA offers with it's animations, and that as a result it will not get the critical acclaim, but it could prove that PES2010 proves to be something of the sleeper hit in much the same way FIFA08 was. Sure, there will always be that envious eye on what EA's product is doing technically, but I think that initial envy could be muted after time if PES has all the other vital components that make a great football game.

If people are spouting gibberish elsewhere about older players yearning for simplicity and that the younger gamer demands what FIFA has to offer with it's complexity, then I actually fear for the quality of player that is being produced in the real sport, as to suggest FIFA simulates how the game is played - not looks - is somewhat laughable.

both games are as much of a sim as each other in my opinion, but for very different reasons. I personally prefer PES' philosophy of trying to simulate the raw simplicity of how the beautiful game is actually played, as opposed to EA's philosophy of simulating the look of the already stated beautiful game.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread (demo out tomorrow!)

I agree, Jimmy. There has been something of a patronising tone towards the PES faithful from those who normally reside on the 'other side' of Evo-web.

I even read one comment (from someone who should know better) that said the people on here that still play PES are mainly the older guys that yearn for the old days of simple pick-up-and-play football games, whereas the young kids are more sophisticated and prefer simulation, better ball physics and more control, hence why they play Fifa.

I had to laugh.:FAIL:

My ageing brain obviously can't cope with the intricacies of Fifa.

Rant over.

No freaking way I must've missed it. I'm sure it was squeezed between in an arduous post concerning the technical limitations that PES has. Please direct me I want to see it in context.

I mean we have been called less intelligent, childish and now old and unhip.:BLEH:

Here you go, 1920x1200 resized to 100 pixels. Graphics very good on the whole although seem to be some LOD problems on the players on freekicks and stuff
