Yes, 100% I agree. Actual real life football is putting me off, i really like this game, but it's my entire interest in the sport is waning.
I'm an Arsenal fan, the less said about our season the better but its the douche culture around my club i cannot stand anymore. I will love Arsenal forever but I don't really like many of the players we have, they are mostly douches themselves who enjoy the Instagram attention and lifestyle and we have many players who overrate themselves, hence why we are 9th.
As for the game globally. The sad thing but most powerful thing about what you wrote about your team Liverpool is that for me they are clearly the worlds best! Football really is that dire right now and it will only get worse year after year!!! Apart from you guys in regards to elite teams you have:
City who are inconsistent since defensively they are poor!
Barca have been rubbish and dreadful to watch all season, Valverde bored everyone with his functional tiki taka, now Setien is boring everyone with his 1000 passes no end product unless Messi wins the game by himself.
Madrid are inconsistent and have too many players and no fluency. The player like strangers when the opposition doesn't roll over infront of them.
Bayern are also inconsistent and have dropped in quality since Ribery and Robben dropped off in ability and left last year.
Juventus i don't find entertaining side, Inter have improved under Conte but again like Juve are a functional side to watch. It's the quality of the players in regards to these teams, the new generation a rubbish, they aren't even close to what we say 15-20 years ago. Young players are heavily overhyped and haven't brought much or anything new to the game at all. These teams are still relying heavily on the last batch of the older generation who are near the cliff in terms of their careers at the top level.
Lazio play some good stuff but they are NOT a top side whatsoever. The other team to mention is PSG but honestly they should just rename their club to 'the real husbands of Paris' they way half their team behaves.
The most entertaining teams for me has by a long distance have been Atalanta and Real Sociedad, after that probably Dortmund on a good day. I respect Getafe but they are horrible to watch. All hard work, little real quality. The fact they are 3rd in La liga, like an average Leicester side 3rd in the EPL just sums up how bad modern football is. Very little true entertainment and freeform creativity anywhere. The game is too much about being an athlete.
Lastly as you can tell already and you will see in the latest update, too many teams play the same way these days. The game has almost completely lost the street football, freeform element. I find it so hard to pick a team I enjoy playing with.
In many ways your response was music to my ears. I'm constantly telling people about my thoughts on this but we live in a world where people respond with cliches and aphorisms which makes me think why bother.
Football is entertainment, glory, emotion. Winning is absolutely NOT everything. I learned that when I sat stoney faced as we won the champions league against spurs in what can only be described as 90 minutes of moral cowardice. I constantly forget we are the holders this season, it means nothing to me. Especially next to instanbul 2005 where I was on cloud 9 for about a month because of the gory of it. (And incidentally how good was that Milan team? Imagine if a team with that kind of soft-touch, rhythmic intricate football existed now? )
I've learned it this year as we won 26 out of 27 and I've never felt so disconnected from my team in my life.
Everything is pace and power and collectivised system. Which is basically death in terms of entertainment. Ajax were such an anomaly last season. This years champs league has reverted to type.
I think I dislike my liverpool team. Actively dislike it to the point I almost want it to fail because otherwise success will perpetuate this abandonment of both liverpool's ways of playing and klopps own principles. And I agree its depressing that we can barely string coherent flowing attacking moves together yet be the best in the world.
Theres this principle, I cant remember the name. How when things change iteratively over time, we dont actually notice what's been lost because it happened so gradually. That to me is football. People notice that they are strangely bored when watching football but cant always see why.
But if you watch sky's programmes where they show all the goals from previous seasons, if you go back to your incredible arsenal team of Vieira, pires, Henry, hell even the van Persie hleb rosicky team, it looks like a different sport. You see goals you never see now, even types of curl on passes you dont see any more. You see pause and tempo and rhythm...
And completely feel you on finding a pes team to play with. Your tactics as I've said before are like voodoo but its still hard to find a team with enough unique players or a playing style you can latch onto.
I remember pes 5 with Tristan and manual pablo and Alberto and valeron. I remember Valencia with aimar and villa and aurelio (god I loved him at liverpool) and baraja. And betis. And Lyon with juninho. And Parma with crespo and veron. And Lazio etc etc.
One final thought. I remember years ago when Luis Enrique's team with MSN won the treble and everyone was raving. On revista de la liga, Guilleme balague was the dissenting voice. He said they were betraying Barca principles, that there was no philosophy, it was just get the ball forward to the front three. That eventually that wouldnt work, neymar would leave and Barca would be left with nothing, just an empty team playing around messi without any sense of aiming for something more. That eventually Barca would adopt a way of playing that just got you a result, like everybody else and it would all be for nothing in the end. Just winning was pointless. Anyone can win.
