PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

what? :'D im refering the latest vid was quoted

i dont understand you. you say there are proper first touch error in new PES and wrong passes? or you say old games were pingpongy too?

I'm saying, with my original post, that it is all about what I make of the game for myself when playing, not watching.

And yes, the old games were more than capable of ping-pong passages of play, but then so is the real sport. I've seen PARTICK THISTLE score what could be deemed as goals that have come as a result ping-pong passing passages of play.

I totally agree with Zeemeister when he says the problem online is the game allowing for it to be the rule as opposed to the exception and the developers should try to curb that, but, like Deco, I play for myself. I play to try create on my own terms. That is where PES and yes, even PES2017, does shine for me. I work with the tools at my disposal and more often than not enjoy myself when doing so.

Cheers mate :) I keep meaning to try out PES2016 again.

Here is another CRAP GOAL I scored months ago in the RUBBISH ARCADE GAME which should've brought me no joy whatsoever if I was a REAL FAN. There is an UTTERLY SICKENING two instances of a player passing the ball without taking a first touch. I totally HATED scoring this winning goal...

Yeah, I know. That goal was a new low for me and the series. I should've traded the game in IMMEDIATELY after scoring it and should've stuck on PES6 and scored with Adriano from a considerable distance; the Main Menu.

Are you offended that some people fancy old PES over new? New PES is really splitting the fans. And yes many think its not upto old PES.

But that doesnt mean you or anyone couldnt enjoy it for what it is. No offense in it when we or personaly i bash the new games. I just would like them to do something similar to the old games. Which probably will never happen.

How do you have the nerve to put that rubbish up? Hahaha great teamwork for the goal . . .makes it all worthwhile when a move works out or nearly works out in other cases.

I'm not offended in the slightest but as I and others have said, the old games are romanticised a tad. Deservedly, in some respects, but some of it is OTT, especially when using those games as a comparison to the newer titles. Make no mistake, PES2008, PES2009, PES2010 were all pretty much disasters and rightfully the older games were referenced and used as comparison when considering those abortive efforts and all that they got wrong. I still tried to like them but found myself fully engrossed in FIFA08, EURO2008, FIFA09 and to a lesser extent World Cup 2010. I fell out with EA's efforts almost immediately come FIFA10 as it was obvious where that series was going. I ended up playing PES2009/PES2010 on Nintendo Wii more than I did any of the 360/PS3 offerings by either EA or Konami. PES2011 wasn't perfect but a step in the right direction; PES2012 and PES2013 had my attention when they were released. I took a year out from football gaming completely for the 2014 titles. Yep, even shiny new hardware powered FIFA14 didn't last; my only exposure to PES2014 for any prolonged period was on my dads super-powerful gaming laptop in 2015, with patches galore. Had a lot going on in my personal life throughout the 2013/2014 cycle which saw me simply fall out of love with gaming, or just having other priorities in life. Have enjoyed PES again ever since from PES2015 up until now. Yes, even the stuff that really annoyed me in PES2016 still saw me enjoy it; it still demanded more playing time from me than FIFA16, a game held in high regards round these parts was able to. Why? I felt I could create more in PES2016 than I could in FIFA16.

I loved the old games, and probably unlike many in here and in the active community I was an adult when I started playing ISS and then PES. I was 17/18 when I first played ISS; 26 when the first PES was released on PS2 in 2001, so I have a very good memory of those days and all that followed as well as having an appreciation for the sport beyond the raw beauty and simplicity at its core. I knew what those games were doing right and wrong at the time, as well as after. I am all but certain that in 2006, if you handed me over PES6 and PES2017, I would likely play more PES2017. That isn't me saying that PES2017 is better than PES6 in every single way imaginable from a gameplay perspective, just that there has been huge progress in the genre, gaming in general, that PES2017 would likely woo me more than PES6 could, in such a hypothetical scenario.

So yes, colour me optimistic when looking ahead to PES2018 for all those reasons above. There are tons and tons of things I want to see football games achieve that isn't in the footage I have watched for PES2018. There is maybe even some things that, at a glance, other football games over the years have done better, when watching videos and not currently playing PES2018, but I thought PES2017 added up to more than the sum of its parts and feel fairly confident PES2018 will be similar in that regard.

Will sound weird, but sometimes the "nearlys" feel better than the ones that work out. It's the nearlys that can have my jaw drop and drive me forward and to keep going.

Totally agree, sometimes when an awesome move and finish is on the cards the first thing goes through my mind is . . .did I put the recorder on? ha ha . .and the ball would roll an inch wide of the post and I go . . that was fuckin' great. . and as you said it encourages you to keep playing. .... you feel that any pattern is there to be weaved. . .it's in your own hands.

does anyone else always select both their CBs to join attack so that they are always in the box for corners and free kicks? i dont think this feature is used much at all, definitely none of the pes youtubers touch it

I'm using one CB on Pes 2016 to join the attack but sometimes he will literally join in on the attacking and leave his defensive position and ramble up the pitch.

shouldnt be the case unless you have attack level on max...the join attack is for set piece situations. check if this player has extra frontman player card/ability that might explain it

No he doesn't ...... playing 4-5-1 possession game Pes 2016.. .. . I'm not sure if it happens in Pes 2017 didn't try it in that.

I'm eager to start seeing posts like "The King Is Back" and "best PES ever", right after DEMO hits (and for PC users, when the full game is out). Because that's what always happen, isn't it? First impression is always incredible. Everyone rushes back to the Forum right after the first one or two matches just to share how amazing everything feels.

Then by this time next year, the game is shit again and all hope is lost.

That's the first thing I am gonna do when the beta arrives. Checking the game settings and gameplan setting. Seems like no one does it these days. ^^
I never started a match without checking on both, but how could I?! I'm the freaking manager of that team! I have to check on daily performance, what's the plan against the next opponent, what are the possibilities in man marking, counter attacking... so much stuff to set up before I touch the ball for the first time. And I love that part as much as playing!! Because it's part of soccer!!
Alright, I don't pay entrance fee, sell beer and sausage in halftime to myself or something, but you get a picture! ;)

@Chuny how is all hope lost?! Not only in gaming, no in real life too, what's left when there isn't even hope?!
I like the way I see things because it makes life easier and more fun. Always optimistic, hopeful, grounded, suspicious, friendly.
The glas is always full (be it with water or half water half air)!!!

Even though you might not understand the language. some Superstar AI gameplay here by me :)
Really enjoyed this match Spooky. A.I. was unlucky as your keeper came up big a few times then their was the post saving you as well:P

Where did I put those anti-depressants?

I was being ironic, guys.
Unfortunately you don't seem to get along with it.

I'm the happiest guy around here regarding PES 2018. I can't wait to have it, I know I'm going to love it.

Honestly. Pes 2017 is the best PES to date. It has flaws like any game ever made it still plays a solid game of football.

I know mate. I think so too.
Specially with all the incredible modding capabilities available this year (which didn't happen since PES 2013). I will be keeping PES 2017 in my system for a very long time.

So beta wiil be e3 code? :DUMMY:
yeah, i hope so to. i dont want to let the early play tester "escape" with their impressions! :) i want to finally feel the difference after all these years of early build talk...! i need prove. and if the demo or the final game turns out different (in a bad way) then i at least know and all others can finally trust the early impressions! ;)

So as we enter into the weekend after a busy PES2018 week, I thought I'd post something about why I love the series (for the most part) and why, in particular, PES2017 just scratches an itch. Or finds new ways to scratch an itch for me.

I started myClub and the Wild West that is online only last week. Have some excellent games, had some awful ones, but I am finding myself hooked to playing it over offline at the moment. Something I thought I'd never say about any game online, especially PES.

Tonight I had a couple of matches after doing the whole squad management thing and getting given rubbish in my spins (apart from Cuadrado).

In the first match the connection was flawless (for me) and I don't think I have ever had so much fun playing a football game in years, as I was allowed to play my own game against my opponent. The match was two-thirds of the way through the first half and was a pretty cagey affair as I just stuck to my gameplan while trying to suss my opponents style out. Then this wee 84 seconds happened...

Totally bossed them but got nothing from it.

The reason why "Love/Hate" is in the title of the video is not because I felt the game was dicking me over, but that I was using Advanced Shooting and simply fluffed the chances that came my way. While I hated missing them, I loved crafting them. I loved my passing game clicking together like it did thanks to some deft use of Advanced 1-2. I loved that I had him on the ropes. I loved Totti's wee touches. Everything just felt perfect about the game. Complete joy, except for the finishing. Maybe there are things "wrong" in parts. Maybe my opponent wasn't all that (though I did go on to lose the game 2-1) but in that 84 seconds I didn't notice. I was just completely immersed in crafting. That is why I love PES in general (for the most part) as it does allow for craft. You can shift gear.

After that it was a 1-1 against a dude with a totally absurd super-team. One of the most intense football videogame experiences I have ever had. Flawless connection.

I had to come back after his sub, some dude called NEYMAR, scored a Neymar run and curled finish. His goal came not that long before mine and up until then it was just two dudes from wherever playing their football. He was being direct with his play but it was often after he too was knocking it about and slowing the game down when he had the chance. It was a battle of two styles, but by players who seemed to have a respect for each others as well as their own craft.

Anyway, this is my equaliser...

It really isn't that special at all. Try telling me that when I scored it. I knew what I was doing with the Davids run as it was using Advanced 1-2 and using it have him make that wee slightly angled run, as opposed to just bombing forward in a straight line. I like to think that confused my opponent. as I think he thought I was going to cross with Denis Suarez, but instead I used the Davids run and played to him, in space and in the box, to take one touch and plant a ball on Suarez's head from just over six yards out, who nods it in nicely.

PES is all about these moments for me; when the pace of the game is just right and two human players are just looking to express themselves. All the annoyances simply evaporate in these moments. I get that with offline play too and, yes, in Master League on Superstar, with all the scripting or whatever. I just get on with it because more often than not it clicks in one way or another.

Man, I hope PES2018 can live up to some of the moments I have had with PES2017 and if online does turn out to be much more stable that online play does become more of an enticing option.

I can honestly say I have never felt so much joy playing online in any football until recent experiences with PES2017. It surpasses some of the cool matches I had on the PES2011 Master League onlie; remember playing @romagnoli in one game in the first few hours of that beta and playing a brilliant wee 1-1 against him. Again, two players being expressive and mixing up the tempo. I never saw this coming at all with PES2017 given all that I have read about online play woes which are surely true, so I am not suggesting otherwise, and can only hope the better experiences online far outweigh the poor ones as the series moves forward.
thanks, great sum up why PES will always have another place in our hearts compared to other games.

I've gotten so annoyed by those who say you have to play the game. Um, no, if I see crap positioning, I don't need to play the game to determine if it's crap or not. Like saying a coach has to be on the pitch to determine if players aren't marking properly.

I'm fine with every other argument, but this one takes the cake, and is highly illogical. One of my biggest pet peeves.

I'll leave it at that.

They could probably just enjoy open-ended match with a lot of space and no pressure/close-down. For sim heads like us on the other hand, it's pretty disappointing to see an issue like this.

Curdstar, I put on one match after talking to you and here's a short clip of a goal from kickoff. . no spamming or long balls. ..scored by an average Leeds team in ML on Pes 2016 superstar manual, the opposition didn't get to touch the ball. . .followed by a nearly there moment not a fantastic one but still good and then there's a goal from the opposition Bournemouth who beat me 4-1 a nice passing move and little dink.

Plus when you're playing the game you don't look for those things, you just try to enjoy it and feel it. But if you look back at what was played, you would probably notice something, just like rewatching a movie. You would see the flaws. That's why I don't listen to those excuses on Twitter, when the game comes out, all those things would be talked about, just like every damn year.

yeah, pretty much the pattern. The way i see it, in order to be crowned "Best Ever" the community needs to play it for years. Not six months. Which proves 2017 wasn't "the best PES ever" like they claimed.
