Good ideas! And why not add the tactical foul in midfield for an instant yellow card. That free-kick video was pretty sweet. Would be cool if the set-piece routines weren't restricted to distance, presenting even more options to catch the opposition off guard.
Was thinking about foul frequency during a quiet moment at work today, after having seen that video. It has been mentioned before but an option to select referee strictness would be cool, but I think what the developers of a football game should do (maybe they are already, dunno) is code so as foul frequency fluctuates depending on the area of play, or maybe even fluctuates depending on match flow, home/away/crowd influence, even the individual players the ref is having to deal with regards rep for simulation.
For a start, when considering coding fouls based on area of play, I would bump up the frequency found in the penalty box, keep frequency in shooting range from a free-kick as it is (shooting range being central; left or right of centre, or just super close to edge of the penalty area) but increasing, considerably, the foul count everywhere else on the field.
Fouls should be more of a tactical thing in these games - should be something you actually want to do as well as be able to engineer in order to try win a free-kick. I think the middle or third (or just under that) should be where you see more fouls getting called. Having a considerable increase of a foul likely being called in this area is the perfect place to try to intentionally commit fouls; can slow the pace down; perfect area tactically to commit them in certain match situations. The centre of the field should be just that wee more niggly, but this would require continuous play to be the rule as opposed to exception. Just about free-kick awarded would need to allow for a quick restart and no resetting of the field. Personally, I would love that as I think it would encourage more midfield play as the player in possession might slow down a tad (match situation would be a big influence here), while the defending player really does want to slow it down if players are in danger of being out of position, or again the match situation means them doing so would benefit them. Other wee bonus is that it might, it might, help solve some positional issues; at the very least it would allow for the user to try do something about it. It is, after all, why professional fouls of the more niggly variety tend to get committed in that area. It would mean perhaps more in the way of animation and coding regards collision variety.
Let's be honest, every ref in the professional game applies different standards depending on where something happens on the pitch, rightly or wrongly.
Love that idea. But isn't it a little strange for short matches like 5 min.?! 10 min halfs though I can see that.Another idea I had. Injury time should be in "real time" in that if the on-screen display says two minutes, it really does mean two minutes. Just a small thing that I believe could ramp up the tension in a close game. The clock just ticking by at an accelerated speed can feel a wee bit misleading, maybe even misrepresentative of the time that should be awarded for injury and stoppages.

Honestly, that would be amazing if true. I sort of hope it is quite a number of matches that need to be won too. I'm also hoping, somewhat forlornly, that VERSUS match can allow us to increase match time to more than ten minutes. A combination of both those things could see the longevity of the game increase rather drastically.
I don't mind the skating too much.
And I think one of the reasons PES lost many fans along the way to FIFA, specially from 2014 is the how responsive FIFA got and how unresponsive PES stopped being until 2016. I remember getting PES 2014 on day one and inviting one of my friends over (who was a FIFA player) to try it with me and how disgusted he was. I almost felt embarrased for still supporting PES.
I think it's impossible to get footplanting and responsiveness both together in the same game. FIFA doesn't have as many skating problems as PES but it's still nowhere near perfect in that regard. But what FIFA does have is some small linking animations that kind of smooth out the skating and transform that into a shorter animation specially when you go from running with the ball to kind of shift one side to get past an opponent, that's when these transitional animations come up so you don't notice skating. Hard to put into words.
the stats were missing at the end but end of 1st half not one free kick..whats the point for single players introducing new free kick and penalty system if were are hardly going to see itFantastic video . .best one so far by a country mile.

I got your meaning and totally agree about transitional animations that is nice in fifa ... but I disagree about fifa responsiveness !
fifa is awful in that aspect !!!
True. And FiFA 16 and 15 didn't suffer from bad animations and skating.FIFA 17 is awful in that aspect, but FIFA 16 and 15 were very responsive!
and with that being said, if these current Konami developers can't fix skating, how much confidence can we have in them?True. And FiFA 16 and 15 didn't suffer from bad animations and skating.
So, while ultra responsiveness is bad, unresponsive gameplay isn't good either. PES 10 and PES 14 were severely frustrating and ruined the gameplay. FiFA 16 was responsive and that game is one of the best FiFA games I've ever played, they almost did right in FiFA 16.
PES 17 is I'll admit, a bit too responsive. But the sliding and skating animations are devs fault of not being able fix it. FiFA 12 had very fast response time and that game didn't suffer from horrible skating.
fifa 16 was only better than fifa 17 ... not very responsive ... I played fifa since fifa 12 (12,13,14 played fifa whole year and only test pes about some hours) and I am sure no one was as responsive as usual pes (except pes 14)FIFA 17 is awful in that aspect, but FIFA 16 and 15 were very responsive!

Should probably say my recent posts aren't a dig at Matt's observations, but I am sure he would concede that if I was aware of his positioning observations in PES2017 (which I was) yet still thoroughly enjoy playing PES2017 then I am clearly enjoying the game for what it does offer. I expect to be doing the same thing from around September 12th onwards with PES2018. Everything I get exposure to until then will be single parts that make up a whole, including playing the beta and a demo.

Here's the menus from PES 2.. Art is miles better than 2018. Even had Queen song "We Will Rock You" If they'd hire top artist (or me) to do this again it would be worth it. This here is just one piece of many that PES today needs badly!

Not sure if this video has been posted on here, but this one has to be the best video Iv seen so far.
This is the question indeed: how badly scripted are the leagues, especially ML? In 2017 it can be horrible. There will most likely be zero information on this before the actual release. It's not like a bullet point in an E3 sales pitch: "Less CPU scripting."He's also playing exhibition mode ..we will wait to see how the AI is in ML
So as we enter into the weekend after a busy PES2018 week, I thought I'd post something about why I love the series (for the most part) and why, in particular, PES2017 just scratches an itch. Or finds new ways to scratch an itch for me.
I started myClub and the Wild West that is online only last week. Have some excellent games, had some awful ones, but I am finding myself hooked to playing it over offline at the moment. Something I thought I'd never say about any game online, especially PES.
Tonight I had a couple of matches after doing the whole squad management thing and getting given rubbish in my spins (apart from Cuadrado).
In the first match the connection was flawless (for me) and I don't think I have ever had so much fun playing a football game in years, as I was allowed to play my own game against my opponent. The match was two-thirds of the way through the first half and was a pretty cagey affair as I just stuck to my gameplan while trying to suss my opponents style out. Then this wee 84 seconds happened...
Totally bossed them but got nothing from it.
The reason why "Love/Hate" is in the title of the video is not because I felt the game was dicking me over, but that I was using Advanced Shooting and simply fluffed the chances that came my way. While I hated missing them, I loved crafting them. I loved my passing game clicking together like it did thanks to some deft use of Advanced 1-2. I loved that I had him on the ropes. I loved Totti's wee touches. Everything just felt perfect about the game. Complete joy, except for the finishing. Maybe there are things "wrong" in parts. Maybe my opponent wasn't all that (though I did go on to lose the game 2-1) but in that 84 seconds I didn't notice. I was just completely immersed in crafting. That is why I love PES in general (for the most part) as it does allow for craft. You can shift gear.
After that it was a 1-1 against a dude with a totally absurd super-team. One of the most intense football videogame experiences I have ever had. Flawless connection.
I had to come back after his sub, some dude called NEYMAR, scored a Neymar run and curled finish. His goal came not that long before mine and up until then it was just two dudes from wherever playing their football. He was being direct with his play but it was often after he too was knocking it about and slowing the game down when he had the chance. It was a battle of two styles, but by players who seemed to have a respect for each others as well as their own craft.
Anyway, this is my equaliser...
It really isn't that special at all. Try telling me that when I scored it. I knew what I was doing with the Davids run as it was using Advanced 1-2 and using it have him make that wee slightly angled run, as opposed to just bombing forward in a straight line. I like to think that confused my opponent. as I think he thought I was going to cross with Denis Suarez, but instead I used the Davids run and played to him, in space and in the box, to take one touch and plant a ball on Suarez's head from just over six yards out, who nods it in nicely.
PES is all about these moments for me; when the pace of the game is just right and two human players are just looking to express themselves. All the annoyances simply evaporate in these moments. I get that with offline play too and, yes, in Master League on Superstar, with all the scripting or whatever. I just get on with it because more often than not it clicks in one way or another.
Man, I hope PES2018 can live up to some of the moments I have had with PES2017 and if online does turn out to be much more stable that online play does become more of an enticing option.
I can honestly say I have never felt so much joy playing online in any football until recent experiences with PES2017. It surpasses some of the cool matches I had on the PES2011 Master League onlie; remember playing @romagnoli in one game in the first few hours of that beta and playing a brilliant wee 1-1 against him. Again, two players being expressive and mixing up the tempo. I never saw this coming at all with PES2017 given all that I have read about online play woes which are surely true, so I am not suggesting otherwise, and can only hope the better experiences online far outweigh the poor ones as the series moves forward.
as i said: i'm having the most fun with the series when playing at home, couch coop! nothing better than playing against a mate (or more), have some drinks, trash talk a lot...Online with the right connection and good opponent. ( not the pressure whoring, cross spamming baboons you get 90% of the time) pes is an absolute marvel to play. Problem is playing like an asshole is better rewarded and the game is built for this market.
Everytime the kick is taken and the ball is in mid-air, the camera switches. Is that done by the player or is that done automaticly by the game?
its still pingpongy. in past pes games you probably cant go over 2-3 one touches because of the ability, body position, pressure, weak foot. so damn said these are gone

I have a feeling it's done automatically by the game, which is a shame if so. I find it annoying too.Everytime the kick is taken and the ball is in mid-air, the camera switches. Is that done by the player or is that done automaticly by the game?

its not mid-air, its right before crossing the line. anyway. some like it, some dont.I have a feeling it's done automatically by the game, which is a shame if so. I find it annoying too.

Cool mate. whatever. Thing is, in my first vid there were only 6/7 one-touch executions of a pass spread across the three separate phases of play with; I'm including Sergi Roberto's header from the long ball in the first. Only one of those phases had more than one consecutive first touch passes connect with success (the third phase, which was a passing move that involved Totti, Davids, Matuidi - hardly poor players whom such skill would be beyond them). Second video has one; the headed finish, if you look at the uninterrupted passing that came before the goal
You've just illustrated why some feedback should go ignored; some of it is complete exaggeration.
You said no more than 2-3 one-touches in the older games, so if you were referencing the videos I posted then your analysis and comparison is poor.
Nice footage, I totally get your mentality and method when playing the game. . ..my attitude is the same to create decent attractive football whether there's the reward of an end product or not ... . it can also be done in Pes 2016 which is why I started an ML and am having a great time against the AI.
