PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

I sure hope you guys spend half of the time you spend writing here, writing @officialpes. Otherwise it's just useless and you're doing nothing to change the game.

What we should write to them? Everyone said we need to organise ourself. And, later on, the discussion is, again, about PES 5/6 vs actual PES. We can't look serious like this. And, as curdstar said, I think I don't need to write anything to them just yet.

P. S. This forum may increase my English level xD.

I reckon I've done my bit over the years for both games. Plenty of people here have. But in truth I stopped bothering since I think PES 2013 (I was at the same playtest as Curdstar). PES 2017 was the first football game I've managed to get more than a couple of months out of since then, so maybe when 2018 comes out I'll get back into writing up my thoughts and sending them to the devs.

Right now, though, is too late. There's nothing we can say now that will affect PES 2018. Save it for the beta at least.

The only thing I am more worried than positioning is the difference between good teams and bad teams. When I play master league and the scripting is on(damn you team spirit crap), I can easily beat teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man Utd, Man City 6-1, 7-0, 8-0 but then end up getting beaten by Sunderland(3-0), Watford(4-0). Bad teams outpace me(even though I have faster players), they trigger catchup bug, they have 90% passing accuracy, they play accurate long pass from yards away(especially an unknown player), they dribble like Hazard/Messi all through my defense. And my whole team's reaction gets dumbed now. Honestly I am surprised that not many people are talking about this or if it's just me who gets the end of it. This is a big problem in my books. If beat teams doesn't give me challenge, it's a no game for me.

300+ hours into PES 2017, never happened to me. The % passing accuracy is never that high, even tho I play on Superstar. I'm now into Real Betis ML with random players, and every match is interesting, I don't feel cheated. The only cheatish thing is the low cross. Damn, I always use it to cross and 80% it's a goal :P

I love, love when people complain that the CPU is too easy in both PES and FIFA, but play with fully assisted controls. Like yeah, no shit. When you can ping the ball around without much thought, it greatly reduces the challenge. And based on the vast majority of gameplay videos I've watched (and I've watched quite a few), most of the people playing look like they barely understand football, let alone are good at Pro Evo.

He is just testing if crosses are still overpowered, that's why he chose passing assistance at level 3.

I was referring to his anecdotal evidence of play testers claiming the CPU was too easy. Maybe it is, who knows.

Aren't you lucky? I guess it hates my CPU or something.

Thanks, so nothing have changed it seems (excepted colors more "flashy" and black font for attributes)
Well it's good like that in my opinion. I hope the database will not be full of mistake like it was the case in 2015-16-17 itérations.

Fair play to the lad for looking to check stuff like that out, but by his own admission he is an online only player. If my only experience of PES2017 was online and all the issues that are apparent, then I too would find playing against the AI with controls that were suddenly uber responsive quite easy... in Exhibition Mode especially. But then he does also say he doesn't play Master League thus isn't aware of all that can go on in there with the AI, for better and worse.

I'm pretty sure it was PESEP who posted a video months ago telling people to spam cross as a tip for online play, to only then go on to make a video bemoaning people spamming cross. He posted under the name Gladiator on PESFan and always came across as a bit weird, personally speaking, but fair play to him getting his channel off the ground and getting himself in a position to test the game. I might find him a bit off, but I'm sure he has his fans and I'm cool with that. Different strokes and all that.

PS - he didn't tell us he played the game on the 23rd June 2017 enough.

Yeah, the video is not good enough because of the loud music but the twitter screenshots are good to show how defensive player sometimes seem to close the passing lanes, but most of the time they don't.

Good player positioning from AI

BVB players trying to make more difficult passing the ball to Barca

BVB players waiting in their area (why?) and offensive players don't go back to block the space to Barca players. There are three players free to move.

These examples are already clear enough. Thanks @Matt10

Yes, I'll be re-uploading the video tonight. Thanks for taking a look.

A lil' bit of everything. I liked it.
players with skill is much easier on the eye, great video :43 so sexy!

i heard people complain players never get injured but so many players are set to 3 injury resistance.

This game goes from Messi making a perfect 180degree chipped through ball with his right foot right onto Sergi Roberto's path and sprinting 15yarddownthefieldtofollowrunner Cb's to beautiful sequences of football like this and it makes my head go

I think that's why we all get so frustrated with this game. Because the potential this game really has is monumental with a few fundamental fixes

I'm abit concerned to be honest, I can see online being a dribbling fest using one player from midfield to goal, that doesn't get me excited at all, pes 17 makes you earn it a lot more than the pes 18 vids Iv seen so far

I would love to get more control over the defender. Things such as hard tackles, timing tackles, etc. But I don't want them to make all players run at the same speed or introduce catch-up bug to balance the game again.

That video with the guy playing 3 bar assist and hitting first time passes 40 metres down the line had me worried until I went back and checked his settings. But the other videos are looking nice! And there's no talk of "the build is finished" with only minor tweaks happening. It actually looks like they're able to make continual and meaningful improvements still. Could be buying this one day 1 :)

Finally, here's the video:

On point video Matt.

I've been hardcore watching football for about 4 years now. I first started playing fifa and pes around that same time and poor positioning was one of the first things that stuck out to me when playing. It's actually what prevented me from purchasing Pes 2017 (I just bought it for $20 on PSN).

Fifa has positioning problems as well but they can at least be altered to near perfection with sliders. I actually love Pes 2017 but I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get teams more compressed and defensively correct. Even through fluid formations things get out of whack the second you bring 5 players into the midfield so it makes getting number behind the ball and creating a midfield battle difficult.

Pes 2010 was so bad in its time of release i managed to play it for more than a month thanks to the Master league, but definitely not thanks to the gameplay.

Pes 2010 was very clunky, maybe to you it feels more realistic, but players felt like totally on rails, Pes 2011 was slightly better in smoothness but man, those floaty shots in every situation, that feeling you couldn't really create quick actions because there was input lag in every situation, still totally on rails. Can we also talk about the speed merchants players in Pes 2011? They were unrealistically quick to dribble players and nothing, i mean nothing could stop them, they literally passed through the defenders legs when you tried to defend.

Pes 2017 on the other end has issues, but nothing so frustrating as the things i mentioned. In Pes 2017 you can create realistic football actions, especially playing with no assistance at all, players tend to skate sometimes, but as you can see Pes 2017 already is an improvement over Pes 2016 in that part, and Pes 2018 looks to be even more improved. I saw no substantial skating in player movements in every video i watched.
That is why I played 2010 and 2011. I wanted to play the 2 games that frustrated me the most. Even with 2010's input lag though and space allowed from CPU between midfield and defense always allowing you to shoot, it was still very much PES. It was still somewhat enjoyable. 2011 felt much better control-wise, but the problem was I couldn't beat a man like I wanted to. The CPU was almost always quicker than me when turning. The shots though I won't agree with. Shooting is so varied and stat based it's a breath of fresh air. I managed to get in a rocket into the top corner and it felt right. Many variables mattered when taking shots. This alone is nowhere to be found in 2017. Also another positive of 2011, it felt very organic, coming from the very stiff 2010.

So, 2010 overall felt stiff, and 2011 kinda clunky. I wanted to jump straight into 2017 after those 2 wanting to feel the difference in tech and I was expecting to be pleasantly surprised and impressed. To my shock though, I was very disappointed. After playing 2010 and 2011 for a while, my mind was tuned differently again. So when I jumped straight back to 2017, everything felt off and so non-PES. Everyone was skating like it's an ice rink. I could suddenly easily pass to whoever I want without looking and turning. I could receive a ball and turn instantly without any feel of weight. There was no effort involved. This felt terrible and I kept feeling worse and turned off the more I played. 2 more games in and I just couldn't anymore.

I re-downloaded 2016 to try after my post, and the skating was less pronounced. I'll play it more today to test it more.

One positive though is after that terrible feeling I got from 2017 (I'm sorry but I really can't stand skaty football, it turned me off Fifa before and it did with 2017), I re-watched a 2018 video from TTB and the skating looked pretty much non-existent in comparison to 2017. I really, really hope this is the case when I play the game. Footplanting, weight, first touch, stats, animations, AI, etc, all these little variables together done properly can make a great game. Like getting the right ingredients for a great dish (Wife's making curry now :D).
