PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Rant incoming.

"I've created this poll in response to the many complaints about end to end arcade football that's been in PES for a while now."

I like Lami, have a lot of time for him but this is the first mistake in that thread.

Y'see, if one were to start off like that you are immediately talking down to both fans and the developers.

I have respect for you as well, Matt (follow you on twitter, subbed to your youtube channel), but I think it was you who tweeted/posted something during a livestream which read along the lines of how you couldn't believe that only you out of 1,300 watching were able to see positioning issues. That's talking down again, intentional (which I don't think it is, given your gentlemanly approach) or otherwise.

Polls on a community website aren't going to do it, especially not if it laced with accusations, directly or indirectly, that the developers are making an arcade game. Even using the term "arcade" is quite frankly lazy, and again is talking down.

I'll be completely honest: if I were producing something and there was a small passionate community talking downwards and in hyperbolic phrases about my efforts I would start to ignore them too. That is not controversial statement as you see it everywhere. Of course, doing so can come with many problems. I don't think Konami/Adam/Asim/whatever are doing that, not by a long shot.

Lami references change.org and alike, but this isn't some political outrage and our elected leaders are letting us down. We are talking about artists, creators and yeah, number/code crunchers when considering the development team in Japan. You need to look to engage with them in a way they can relate to.

Posting up polls, making Youtube videos in which you talk about an issue using a stream of a fixture in isolation isn't going to do it. Us whining about it on here isn't going to do it. None of these things will engineer change, because we start to come across as nothing more than occasionally useful idiots. Our passion, our wearing a sim-nation badge with pride, completely unapologetically and showing no compromise can easily communicate as hate just as much as FIFA fanboys shitting on the game does. This isn't exclusive to PES. You see it in politics (especially) too.

People saying they are fans who go way back with the series isn't enough. There needs to be a new way found to communicate and articulate. There certainly needs to be more empathy and more of a reality check across the board.
Look, in all honesty, and quite frankly, I'm just sick and tired of the yearly deja vus, from silly hype season to frustration season. It's the same God damn shit every god damn year and it's been going for god knows how long now. I can sit here and tell you who will post what in detail. I know who's happy and who isn't and who wants what. "The nets suck", "passing assistance levels don't matter", "the stadiums not enough", "basketball shorts", "need more licenses", "the pitches look bland", "the lighting is bad", "footplanting sucks", "collision detection needs fixing", "the animations are robotic", "the keepers are floaty", "the shooting is one dimensional", "fouls are absent", "refs are shit", "no pks", "stats don't matter", "no 1v1s with gk", "no midfield battles", "that stumbling animation", "bad defense lines", "constant end to end games", "bad AI positioning", "form arrows suck", "catchup bug", "ML scripting", "ML regens", "ML match schedules suck", "no day games in ML", "first touch isn't good", "accurate passes from impossible angles", and on and on and on. They're not wrong you see. And these issues are too many to ignore. Any other game with so much wrong would be considered a a bad game. Konami has said time and again they're after realism. If so then it's only normal we expect a SIM. If they're after arcade then say so and stop selling realistic this and that, because that's what we'll be looking for. It is tiring and very daunting seeing it every year and feeling completely powerless about all the complaints and what phenomenon the game could've been and then waiting and hoping the next one doesn't disappoint and finally delivers at least the fundamentals right, yet I still see the same complaints mentioned above. Again. Every year. And when we mention these issues to Konami, because we actually care and want the issues gone, because we are the ones who buy the god damn game every year and genuinely want to play it all year long, which is keeping this game relevant to this day, every year, we get shut off and told to wait until we play. To top it all off, they go running to the FIFA influencers who'd never buy nor have the slightest interest in their game. Then tell us they had no time for our issues and their priorities lie elsewhere. Then we see... Faces! Who no one complained about. And Usain Bolt! And whatever irrelevant cosmetic bullshit. But yes, they're more important than having more variety in scoring goals. More important than getting the fouls or midfield play or footplanting right. "Let's spend all our man hours on more irrelevant stuff and ignore all the issues we should be fixing, add a few animations on top of the robotic ones we already have and there we have it, our next evolution! Now let the suckers buy it". *Sigh*

I'm sorry, but the ones who really should feel looked down on is us. I can't be bothered with all this political correctness bullshit anymore. I'm not sucking up to anyone to get my point across. I'm saying it how I see it. And I don't give a flying fuck how any of them feel. I'm the one parting with my money and the only feelings that matters to me is mine. I don't owe anyone anything.

I, and many of us, just want all these faults gone, man. Simple as that.

/Rant over.

I've done what I thought was right with that poll. I've seen the complaints, took it upon myself, acted as a community rep and passed it on. Done my part. That is all. I thought everyone preferred a SIM game, you know, how football is played irl, since we're all football fans and all. Silly me. Should've known people wanted tennis in football clothing and anyone wanting otherwise would hurt feelings.

The shooting mechanic used in these vids is literally called Basic Shooting. Not Advanced, not Manual, but Basic. You are going to get the most restrictive, stripped back form of shooting the game can muster using Basic Shooting.

I also notice, both in these vids and some of my limited online play on PES2017, that folk rarely use dynamic 1-2 - the best off-the-ball movement mechanic added to a football game in recent memory.

That gifs are priceless, really loving them.

Especially the weak footed Torres rocket goal. ...

I know I keep banging on but i really cannot believe how good this game looks and how well it moves. The gifs this guy is posting are simply incredible https://twitter.com/KurosakiCarlos2

I rarely get caught up in the hype with PES but this has me genuinely excited. Some of the little touches and animation will add so much to my enjoyment. Also, looking at those gifs there is some variation in shooting, not enough but more than I initially thought.

Same here.
Been reading up 7 - 10 pages to be up to date again and some of that videos made it look like a reborn and reworked PES2014 because of the ball physics and fluid player animations.
Been seeing many positives.
But final judgement when I get to play it finally.
Seems like it's gonna feel fine...

So much goodness.

This is another one of those ones that because it is a camera filming a screen it completely tricks the eyes. Even the blurry still image from tele-broadcast replay looks insane.

You are taking this way too serious, just saying. Tired of the yearly dejavus? Try and play Fifa.

If you are not happy with Fifa either just accept this: KONAMI will always develop the game they want the way they want. Use feedback if you want, try to make your voice heard, but don't be too invested.

All well said Lami. But it seems like our time is gone. PES is a pickup and play kids game today. Everyone knows it.

BUT actually this is the first time Adam says SIMULATION and im not even excited now...thats how my expectations are by now. But ok lets try it probably those rocket laser shots will look differently with a controller in my hand :D

Well when you get shot down while giving feedback and they trying to sell the game as simulation when its obviously not then...its kinda upsetting.

Its like a convo:

- Hey i made a simulator for you guys /doesnt even look like one/
- Oh great looks alright here how you could improve it...etc..

Lami that was great . . . you're hilarious when you're angry Lol. . .. ."I can sit here and tell you who will post what in detail" .. . so true and so funny.. . . .I understand your frustrations totally.

Yeah funny how everyone praises PES during these events YET NO ONE PLAYS IT DURING SEASON. Only that 5 youtubers who make money out of it.

edit: dont even try to reason im accusing anyone to be an ass kisser just they are underwhelmed probably by the "new"

PES2018 doesnt look convincing at all yet ill try the demo and ill get the full game for free as an editor and ill try that too. As i will do forever probably.

BUT actually this is the first time Adam says SIMULATION and im not even excited now...thats how my expectations are by now. But ok lets try it probably those rocket laser shots will look differently with a controller in my hand :D

Oh, piss off!

Do you have any idea how utterly absurd a claim that is? Not even considering gameplay but reach and marketing?

Yeah, all the kids play the game that is hardly even marketed and not the absolute fucking Goliath that is FIFA with its Ultimate Team and all. That isn't even me criticising FIFA, as they do well with their marketing. Is Matt a kid/casual? Is Deco? Is Chris Davies? Are the many who would browse this or other forums or feeds?

What, so you honestly think that whatever PES sells it is to kids and casuals? Explain this community and other places then; how the PES sections are always, always ticking over, and it isn't one scathing attack upon the "kids and casuals game" after another.

Ridiculous comment. Utterly, utterly ridiculous. A level of ignorance I would only expect from a tribalist fanboy or someone completely cyncical about videogames in general.

You are becoming an utter parody of yourself. Have a word.

how do you know!? :D
i do play 2017 every week (local and online friends too)! with 2016 i guess i did not touch it from february on. but with 2017 im still having fun, even knowing the issues and seeing them.

Sorry guys but passing too. Where do you see the error? Players hit PERFECT backwards passes the ones which you couldnt in the PS2 days...but 2-3 times out of 10 with top players only.

Seriously? Just because players make some backwards passes here and there you are judging bad the entire passing system? Would you replay that glorious Ps2 Pes were every pass was straight to the receiver feet? And don't tell me it was natural it was that way, because in Pes 5 there was manual passing too (on the right stick), they could have used that option as default, but they never used it and nobody complained.

You are way way way forgiving to the old "glorious" games it's so unfair it hurts.

Lami is spot on, And I'm sure the "Play another game" or the paid off reviewers brigade will try to shoot him down.

The bottom line is that the game is not progressing at all, Reviews are full of lies, Football fundamentals are broken and the same HUGE issues are there for the last 3 or 4 years!

At this day and age there's no excuse for a game with no fouls, No proper ML mode or pathetic AI. These features can be found in any 20 year old gam on Sega or even on your Iphone nowadays!!

For example look at the post above me, He's attacking PES 5 and ignoring that the pessimism comes from 3 or 4 years of no progress and not because of bias.

They either have to give us sliders, Release the code of PES and let us mod it like we want, Or just keep lying to us and send their you tubers to spam message boards with false pretenses.

This is the first time in all these years I've been a member of this Forum (about 8 years?) in which I feel so much negativity that's hard to be around.
I know you're probably thinking "if you don't like it, don't come" but honestly... I've read all kind of comments throughout the years and this is the first time it bums me down everytime I come. Considering how good the game is looking and the amount of VERY GOOD feedback we got from those who actually tried it, it makes me think how distorted our vision might be or how ungrateful we are. I don't know, really. More so if we take into account how terrible FIFA is looking and how little it seems to have changed.

Might not be THAT easy to make a solid football sim afterall, don't you think?.

I rarely post these days, but I feel like I have to express my own opinion, since so many people are frustrated more than ever.
PES was something special, back in the day, because the other game sucked so hard it wasnt very difficult to shine through it.
But, even though, PES was insanely good at the start of the PS2 era, the game kept on improving. We all know that PES 5/6 were far from perfect games, but what they did with the tech they had in hand, was nothing short of impressive. The game was fun and the game is fun even today. The AI of the game worked and nothing more than that, games are far more complex now.
The times have changes, we grew older and we kept this memory of PS2 PES in our minds on such a high "mountain" that I believe for anyone to climb over it, is barely possible.
PES has to be fun and if the devs are referring to their game as realistic or striving for realism, then they have something completely different in mind, not simulation.
Fun, Authenticity, Realism, these three pillars are what makes a great footie game. Sim as what we want, will not. It might be fun for some, but for the majority it wont be and Pro Evo has to sell copies.
We can get frustrated every year, that what we want from Pro Evo is still not there, but whats the point? We aren't making the game, Pro Evo is a AAA title made in a corporate atmosphere, its not an indie title, its development isn't open to the public, because its an yearly release. They stick to their vision for the year and they work on it. If changes are possible, they will do them, but we all know what can happen when they change something.
What KONAMI can do to satisfy us a little bit, is to offer us ways to modify our gameplay experience, either will new tactical settings, or smth similar to FIFA's sliders, etc.

Especially the weak footed Torres rocket goal. ...

no.gif

Yup, inconceivable that professional footballer Fernando Torres, after knocking the ball in front of him to set himself, could hit a clean strike from 8 yards. Impossible.

Had he hit it across goal, top corner it definitely would have been awful.

If we're not careful we'll have a game where conditions have to be absolutely perfect to get a good shot off. It's not perfect, not by a distance, but it's really not that bad.

What on earth are you blethering on about with political correctness? It's called communication and etiquette.

What if I told you right now that what you posted was the biggest load of entitled shite I have read, but then I say I still respect you and all that you are doing?

What is your instinct after that?

What are you focussing on? Me saying you are talking shite, or me saying I respect you? Both maybe true, may be my opinion, but would what are you thinking regards how you would look to communicate with me after that?

Go tell Konami directly that they make a tennis game in football clothes and immediately then ask them to consider your ideas? See where that gets you, as a representative of a community or otherwise.

Are they trying to slow down the pace or not? Have they worked on passing assistance and made it less assisted or not? Have they tried giving more weight to the players or not?

They are trying, not everything can be great at first attempt, but i'm honestly surprised that for the second consecutive year they are slowing down the pace, that is easily perceived.

One thing is to wait and see and the other one is to completely shut down every single positive thing they are trying just because you feel entitled to be pessimistic. It's depressing and brings no discussion. Just rename the thread to "Pes 2018: News and depression, the king will never return".

Now that i've ranted too i'm ready to just read the forum. Enjoy your despair. Bye.

the progress made in 2018 might not make you happy or adress the "important stuff" some of us want, but you can clearly see the progress that was made!! if not, you dont want to see it or you are blind (sorry if you are really disabled)!

edit: and "bottom line"!? so early!? really?! i have to check on the internet for the meaning of it. i can be wrong as my english isnt the best. ;)

Yeah, you NEVER see players kick a ball with a weaker foot, EVER.

I have never ever ever ever heard a commentator/analyst/a friend/myself essentially say, for example, while watching a real match: "Fuck me what a strike! His wrong foot as well!"

That has never ever ever ever happened. Ever.

If I were to start theorising about the reason and intended result of anything right now it is the decision for Konami to allow for what is an unprecedented level of game footage to be captured (often directly) and published.

Personally, I did like to think it is honesty, as well as confidence. Maybe they are just looking to be honest and transparent with the game, or there is just outright confidence. Maybe they are comfortable for it to be shown because they are confident of what they do have to show, but there is much more to come in the way of improvements or additions to the game and spectacle as a whole.

I mean, there is tons and tons of footage of the game out there now.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Konami is showing whole heap of signs of being overly confident this year.
No embargos. Showing many images of faces themselves (via Adam Bhatti or Asim). Allowing the fans to record or capture whatever they want. Releasing an OPEN BETA this early and later on the Demo. That shows they actually trust what they've been working on and, judging by what the people who played it are saying, Konami's not wrong for behaving like this. They are comfortable because they have reasons to be.

Not too long ago they would hide as much as they could until Gamescom. And they had reasons for that too. Please remember that.

Well im playing the old "glourious" games and FIFA and new PES too. THERE IS DIFFERENCE. Big one.

As for your other comment...again if someone doesnt like something about the new game hes the bad guy but praising blatantly without playing it thats fine. I mean...? What?

Another great example. All goals are so effin' unique i have never seen any of them in the past 4 years...
Well the said thing is the 5th is the most unique.

I mean once again, i have no problem with anyone who loves new age PES but i dont like it. So if the ones who like it entitled to judge it then me too as well. I mean why is that such a problem for you?

Aye, but Gabe has watched some videos.

Ever.

+1

:LMAO:

One questions. Do you like PES 2017 shooting or not?

Are you talking about Basic shooting or Advanced shooting?.
Because if you don't specify, it may seem like you haven't even bothered with Advanced Shooting and both of them are two worlds apart and have a huge impact in the gameplay.
