PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

This graphics debate - I think the Maradona face is absolutely unreal, superb. Truly unbelievable. The Griezmann face... Even better.

My problem is - well, Konami have posted this GIF, and people seem to think it's from PES 2018 (I'm not so sure but I hope not):

In motion, I think the illusion is completely shattered - this is where I think the competition has the advantage. Worse in stills (by far), with comic-book exaggerated lighting, but better in motion.

In PES 2017, the mouths make movements like a snake trying to swallow a football - there's one particularly bad animation when a player gets booked, and then does this:

BUT... Honestly, I don't care if passes have more freedom (including for the AI) and shots have more variation.

I fell in love with PES for the gameplay and it's what keeps me playing it today, so I don't really care about this stuff - just pointing it out...

Konami must be confident about PES2018 if they are allowing proper gameplay to be streamed rather than just trailers/cut shots.

So that Twitch stream will be at 6.15pm (UK time) and then a further presentation on the Konami Facebook/Youtube page at 8.30pm which will be led by Asim.

You never know with Konami. We've seen a LOT of blind confidence in the past, there's no reason this year is any different.

Having said that, it is certainly a bold move.

@Chris Davies that is definitely 2018 and I agree the game always falls down when it's moving. I'm actually glad they're going big on graphics this year (based on what's been said). The game really needs some love when it comes to visuals, even if it's not te most important thing.

Usain Bolt :FAIL:
Can't wait for every single team in MyClub to have Ronaldo on one wing and Bolt on the other, especially considering that he's free with pre-orders.

Thanks, Konami.

EDIT: Passing looks as ping-pong as ever in that trailer. Shots all on target too. (But, they would be, it's a trailer - I know.) Desperately waiting for 6:15pm UK time for that live stream, now - need some hope.

As a trailer, and after having watched it once, this is great.
Very atmospheric.
What we saw is champaign football, but that is what trailers are about.

The worst that can happen (and will happen) is that people will start analyse this trailer frame for frame and by this evening the modd will be very downbeat. This happens every year, and quite frankly it is absolutely ridiculous and neurotic.

Great to see the famous Maradonna goal against England being recreated...really liked that. And 'im not a fan of Maradonna (Messi and Pele are better, no discussion, i saw them play lots of times).

Bolt? Couldn't care less. I hope they introduce James and Durant (they won't) because i hate My Club with a passion...

Worst case scenario? That Konami will actually listen to the neurotics.

I know it's just a trailer and the purpose is to highlight the best parts of the game like spectacular overhead kicks and back-heel passes. But I would have loved to see some misplaced passes and shots that went wide. Got me a bit worried, but love the new animations, looks incredible.

It looks nice, I couldn't see much to pick up on, the animations seem good and the player models look skinnier perhaps?

The same ball physics && ball-player interaction (dribbling physics) since 2012 tell me it's another "I'll only play this for 2 days" year.

And some shady (as in, non-smooth mocap data) celebrations there.

It's a shame, I really wanted to go back to PES. Every year I keep hoping for a complete overhaul, but the existing fanbase seems to be pleased with the current state of things.

Will still give it a go when available.

They've nailed the colour palette, it looks like an actual HDTV broadcast, hopefully the game supports HDR.

Waiting to hear from people playing the game not impressed with player ball control and passing but great chance it's on level 2 support, I understand they are talented players in those sides but ball control was too perfect, trailer hasn't done much for me to be honest, I have high expectations this year for me to buy the game again.

1,000% agree. Can't tell anything from the trailer, other than passing is still ping-pong (could be user, could be AI, could be on any passing setting - who knows).

The live stream is at 6:15pm UK time. That's all I'm interested in (although I'm willing to bet it'll be ping-pong and the argument will be "we don't know what pass settings they had it on").

Some good loking stuff and some bad stuff. Have only watched the trailer once as I'm at work but some quick thoughts:

  • Keepers not looking perfect but finally some decent animations. Not completely terrible. Pleasently surprised.
    • Keeper comes out against maradona, hoepfuly not a second player holding triangle.
  • Too many 1 touch perfect passes. Hopefully the gameplay later will show something a bit different
  • lighting looking pretty good
  • game still looks a bit choppy but animations on the whole are decent
  • ball physics to look a little tweaked to me, looks like the ball has a little more weight in shooting
  • looks tigher overall. Unsual for Konami to actually build on something!
Now to wait for the proper gameplay, most of the questions will be answered there.

Didn't even know Athletico was getting a new stadium. Wow, dunno how I feel about that. On one hand I get the need to increase capacity & conditions for venues but they all look the same. Gonna miss the character & culture of the Calderón & White Hart Lane.

Looks good, PES always manages to look proper on still shots (provided that LOD isn't horrible on gameplay cam), and UI elements look professional, too. Will abstain from commenting on the colors used though, as those are subjective to taste, but not my cup of tea :P
