PES 2017 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

I'm not having that, sorry. 20 games on Superstar and only 3 shots on target in total?

No way. :TTTH:

It's true unfortunately.

I've been playing on superstar and the AI can barely get a shot away. It's ridiculous how basic their attacking patterns are.

Started trying to play against superstar Barca with a weaker team, using manual settings.

It wasn't easy holding on to the win. But u can slow them down by shutting out the passing lanes, while not forgetting to keep shape, exercising discipline. Was a bit of work, but it was necessary, since they are so damn clinical on the move.

Had to play pretty conservatively, to make sure I don't lose the ball in areas that leaves my defensive shape open in the back. Had to read the field in front and behind all the time... Made some mistakes here and there by playing too delicate in the back, and I saw how quickly that transforms into a goal risk. Barca don't play around...

Conservative game from me, but probably a realistic approach, for a smaller team playing against a top team.

Game stat-wise, it's pretty even. I had more shots and more possession, that seems a little strange. My highest pass success rate came from my fullbacks.

Basically, the way I see it, if you overcommit, bring players out of position, leaving passing lanes open, omitting defense integrity....you leave gaps for them to play fast, they will play fast.

back from holiday and have been playing the demo again on superstar, it's definitely more challenging than top player so i'm not too worried about that anymore, gone to PA0 as well which i feel is a necessity.

Only thing that is frustrating me now is that this game is clearly geared up for longer match lengths, this encourages the slower build up play and give you more time to think about tactical settings and using them more appropriately. 10 minutes just isn't enough time to switch to say, all out attack in the last 5mins of the game as that 5mins goes by too quickly.

i think i'll be going 15 min matches when the full game comes out!
that's right tactical settings will make a big difference

They have set the game up to be low scoring after a lot of feedback about high scoring games. I am worried they have made a game that the community thinks it wants, but have gone too far and will turn off a lot of players

last night I played 5 games on superstar,

boca vs river
atletico vs barca
arsenal vs barca
barca vs arsenal
barca vs atletico

every game finished 0-0
Don't forget we're also limited to 10 minute games. Most of us play 15-20 mins offline so while it's harder, it's still a boy difference in time allowed to create more chances and chill a bit. I've actually had a few goal fests on Superstar. But yes plenty of 0-0's too.

also shot speed varies with camera settings on my camera setting it doesn't look as fast

Probably true. I play on 0, 5, 10.
Also gamespeed might show a difference in shooting. I never played anything different but -1.

@gabe: what speed setting do you play on?

Since I switched to manual passing (never wanna go back to assisted again), I toned the difficulty down from professional to advanced to practice it. I find throughballs and crosses quite hard, but I´m getting better slowly.
It remembers me forcing myself switching from d-pad player movement to analogue stick.
I have to say that even on advanced I find it challenging...lol.
And on advanced there are CPU fouls as well.

I don´t understand where that "CPU never fouls me on PES 2017" is coming from.

I don´t have no reason to switch to manual shooting...yet.
I have so many missed goal shots even on basic shooting and I see a lot of variation there.

However after quite skipping the last two PES full releases 2015 and 2016 I´m facing two little annoyances here again, which are general PES issues.

- Sometimes when performing a throughball, my player runs to it, but slows down before taking the ball, even I press R1 and it takes like 1 or 2 seconds until he takes it and making he have full control over him again.
Example:
I played a throughball to Messi on the wing and the ball was rolling to the sideline.
I already had him selected and ran towards the ball and I certainly would have received it, before the ball rolled over the line.
But a few meters in front of the ball, Messi slowed down and it was like for a few seconds I didn´t have control over him, just like I had to wait for an animation to finish.
The ball rolled over the sideline, throw in for the opponent.

I had that issue with earlier releases as well. It doesn´t happen often, but when it does, it´s fucking annoying.

- Slide tackles. When you move your stick to a direction, away from the player with ball posession, the slide would go to the ball anyway.
There is no freedom in sliding, there is always a correction in direction.

Other than that I still enjoy it and can´t wait for the full game.

Have they changed the form arrows around now, is red no longer good cause I see that it's pointed downwards?

Yes, that's how long it's been.

Yeah they changed the colors for no reason. maybe there is a reason but I don't get it. This little change is symbolic for some aspects of the game and Konamis working attitude.
Like the demo though.

Can you remove the text box that comes up on sry pieces also, there's no need for it after the first time

Edit: Found it never mind. Btw playing Germany and all of a sudden they've started hacking down my players, two have had to go off for treatment bit no enforced subs.

They need to seriously consider changing the 1 bar pass assist. People that play on that are going to find it too easy.

Being able to effectively pass the ball with 85-90% accuracy is not going to find this game challenging enough. Since I have moved to manual everything has changed in terms of the areas the AI get a ball and how effectively they launch their attacks.

Even in real life most goals come from mistakes more than teams actually creating openings through build up from defence.

When people play on assisted pass settings you can pass your way out of trouble using a few taps of x no need to turn your body or find a big enough gap to play the pass

This way the AI is starved off the ball and also they won't get a chance to dispossessed you which in turn leads to the issue of less free kicks when using assists.

You get better over time playing manual. One two's will be the first thing you'll master as its mostly 45 degree passes in counter attack. Then you'll get a hang of other special passes that you just can't pull of on PAwhatever. I like the short low pass (X not through ball!) about 1-3 meter in front of a midfielder and bang the ball directly at goal! :)

Exactly my thoughts.
Even I don't understand what's level 2 and 3 good for if Level 1 is so assisted, I'm also glad that this fact forced me to play manual.

The reasons are exactly what you mentioned.
In fact manual passing takes me even slightly closer to a real match.

And I have to think thoroughly where to pass and how to build up whereas on assisted I'd take more risks.

I anyway would love PA1 to be a slightly assisted PA0.

When will PES ever implement this? They have the FOX Engine, it's way too powerful to not use it properly. They can implement the foot planting using any player, so I don't know why they don't or even think about it. It will make the game much more realistic and not so robotic.

TRUTH.

People need to realize that assisted passing has a huge "snap" correction, where the ball always gets played to feet when you use X button, unless you have an outrageously bad aim. Even then, it's still a binary situation - if you miss the first player, it just gets "snapped" to the next player. The way the pass assistance bails you out of situations, makes it very difficult for the COM to collect possession from your mistakes, coz, you know, even if you make a mistake, half the time the pass just goes to a different player on your team.

Plus, you can rely on this snap behavior to get out of difficult space and situations with a few quick passes. Which I'm sure we all did when we played with assisted passing.

And all of this is related:

Use correct body animation, of both the passer and the receiver. Do not send pass if your animation looks awkward (your pass will be less accurate). Do not send pass if the animation of pass receiver looks awkward (the guy who is not ready, can over run the pass). It's a little like real football.

Also, you don't have to always send the pass to feet. Send the ball somewhere close to the guy, he can walk over to collect it. Try sending some under powered passes, and you'll see. Make sure to play the pass into a pocket of space, where you anticipate your receiving player will arrive there first, before the defender can get there.

That's my problem I don't send it to feet, I don't send it near to anybody's feet, it normally goes to someone off screen, whether it's my player or the CPU is just luck. If it misses the intended player and goes to another player there is a delay in me controlling him so I lose possession.

That's exactly my point. Manual is difficult at first, for people trying to make the switch, because they don't realize they are still looking for that "snap". The snap zone is small in manual, you really have to make your intentions clear when passing.

If you meant the pass for the first player, don't expect your pass to be fine if you miss the first guy, don't expect your pass can be meant for the 2nd player. If you miss it, you miss it. That's it. You'll have to deal with it. This may result in the 2nd player having to fight for it 50/50 with the defender. Your player, he may win, he may lose, he may not even react. But that's really within expectation - your pass was not meant for him to begin with.

Don't be discouraged because your old understanding of how passing works doesn't apply anymore.

I'm going to post this video, of a fast attacking style. I'm playing against superstar Barca, with River Plate, using full manual settings.

Yes, it's possible to play fast in manual. In fact, when you play fast in this game, the COM plays fast as well. You end up having space on both ends, which makes it easy to play fast (bigger gaps to play passes into and run through).

Notice how I always orient my body properly, to make sure to use the correct body animation for a pass. I can't stress how important this is in manual. If I want to use my instep, I have to orient my body so that I look ready to send a pass with my instep. I'm doing this, because like I said earlier, it effects accuracy. With assisted pass, you can just tap X, the snap overrides a lot of the details. A large part of pass accuracy's relationship to your body orientation gets omitted, because your pass has a lot more "snap" correction. Basically, in manual, you have to change the way you look at this game, you have to pay attention to these details.

- Pay attention to the body animation of the passer and the receiver
- Pass to space more often, you don't need to play it to feet
- Take liberty of how you use the pass power. The power should somewhat match the distance of the pass. You can also underhit/overhit it - your choice.

Here's the video of the fast game:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I78gK-oJszI

If you want to see the same game, played slow, it was posted just a couple posts above:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kecjri_ADVg

When I play fast, I have 45% possession, 77% accuracy

When I play slow, I have 57% possession, 78% accuracy

It's not nearly as bad as you'd think, when you get the logic of how to use it. Don't give up.

I played 20 games on superstar, conceded 2 identical set piece goals and had 3 shots on target against me in all 20 games !

If you want to say this way that you are a fantastic player, then you should do it otherwise, because this is total bullshit, not credible at all.

I hope Konami doesn't listen to people like this...

I have luchrespect for people who don't like the game with solid arguments, but not with bullshit like this from 12 year olds... (and if you are older, im' sorry but you sound like a year old).

Games are made for kids though.

Nevertheless, a nornal 12yo should be that much derp.

Anyway, is these exterior view only for aome specific stadiums?

I agree, and said as much in an earlier post.

There's no way anyone can play 20 games on Superstar and limit the AI to 3 shots on target combined.

That's like saying he played a full F1 season on the hardest setting and only got overtaken once. It's easy to spot the EA lovers.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, it's hard to take it on board fully when that video is pushing FIFA 14 - the most sluggish football game I've played since FIFA 2001 on the PSOne.

Well you''re the one insulting my intelligence. There are 3 or 4 other posters agreeing with me. i hope the mods sort you out.

I think we are all mature enough to tolerate each other's opinions.

I like the game this year, agree with some points and disagree with others.
I enjoy it and no one with a negative post can talk it down to me.

Maybe we just shouldn't be so sensitive.

I'm not talking about animations or how sluggish FIFA 14 was. I'm just saying EA implemented the foot planting long time ago, and PES still hasn't and doesn't seem to care or see it as a problem.

I'm not sure it's a huge problem. The foot planting in that video is probably what contributed to FIFA 14 feeling like players were wading in treacle anyway.

Sorry but didn't PES 2014 have foot planting as well?

Sorry but didn't PES 2014 have foot planting as well?

They did, but they ditched it and completely changed ever since, there are certain moves that needs foot planting, like the running/walking animations, players turning left and right needs to have proper foot
steps. I don't mind if they brought back the PES 2014 animations and improve on that, but ever since then they got back to the ps2 animations and floaty feeling.

Edited: Actaully looking back at PES 2014 it still didn't have a proper foot planting like FIFA. But the animations were better though.

Actaully what contributed to FIFA sluggishness were the weird animations itself, it has improved since FIFA 14 tho. But foot planting had nothing to do with it. We are in 2016 with a powerful FOX engine, it can and should be done. There shouldn't be foot planting for every situation but there are things that needs to as I said basic things like running/walking/turning animations. Just adding over the animations PES 2017 has.

There was nothing wrong with what he said. I think you need to grow up on this ocassion.
