I tried we9le soyo's adjusted version. it's good, just dated compared to pes 2013 gameplay.
the adjustments make it slower so you take tie to break teams down, so each game is a chess match with a good level of technique.
The reasons why pes 2013 goes far beyond this is the variety of matches which are derived from the new tactics system, the ball physics and individuality is much more advanced so depending on your individuals, you need to think like a manager and create strategies to suit your team. WE9LE is old fashioned in the sense if you play with a team like Australia or the USA, you are always looking to try play good football with them. passing football. The 'old pes feeling'
In pes 2013, you realize passing with them on 1bar is not going to get you anywhere because they like in real life have few gifted passers so you look to use strength and height upfront to your advantage and work on defensive tactics and either wing play or long balls to win.
It does frustrate me at times people don't see this new concept brought in by konami, 'Variety realism' pes 2010 tried it worked to an extent, pes 2011 was the first game which did this well because of the tactics system. pes did it well in the 1.06 patch and pes 2013 did it all year.
This is the 'new' pes feeling. Some matches are chess-matches, highly tactical, some are open, some are cagey, some are fierce competitive battles with lots of tackles, some are cat and mouse, variety!
I do agree with you when it comes to different tactics for each team which obviously is limited on PES5/WE9LE.
I'm playing PES5 with my adjustments which include slower gameplay, and better teamwork and attacking moves by the CPU. So, no, the one i play is not fast and it is about building up play for myself and for the CPU.
Some things i still love about PES5 are
- the CPU passing back and forth and spraying cross field balls is good to see (i'm not saying it doesn't happen in PES2013).
- Seeing the CPU striker go lunging in to my goalkeeper with a sliding tackle.
- Seeing a 'sweeper' keeper come running out to head the ball to safety.
- Seeing a fast cross come in from any angle and defender, attacker and goalkeeper missing the ball as it goes across to the other side. Then seeing another winger cross the ball back in again.
- Those frantic goalmouth scrambles that happen in front of goal, when i have to pause it to see the replay.
There are many things. What i prefer about PES5 (not WE9LE) is the realistic amount of fouls. Yes it is infuriating when your striker hounds the defender too much and the whistle goes, but it happens. Those times when you are holding out for a draw or win and the opposition get consecutive free kicks around the box in the last 5 minutes, they are nerve jangling moments.
Thinking about tactics, in my ML i was playing Sunderland in the cup. They had already beaten me i think 4-0 in the league. I just played with 1 up front and 5 in defence, and i just defended throughout the match. The midfield battles were immense, once they got past my DM, i brought my next line of defence forward to block. The CPU had to play to the wings, but if i blocked them, they played through the middle. Also i was trying to hit them on the break. Finished 0-0, but it was a fantastic result for me.
Also, people mention the 'heart' factor. It has always been there but called 'mentality'. Go in front against a team with high mentality and suddenly they would start pounding you. If your mentality was also high then you may be able to hold on, or even get a second. If the team had a low mentality and conceded then they would probably concede more goals.
Don't really want this to be a PES v PES debate. I have got all the games and i really like 2013 and also enjoying 2014. I am annoyed because my PS3 has packed up. So i bought PES2014 for PC but now thats having issues with slowness. Another reason why i just bung the PS2 on

Could be your video card drivers, mine doesn't lag much if at all. Despite being a beta/unfinished. 1.06 gameplay on top player is good and enjoyable. sadly there is a noticeable reduction or responsiveness compared to training mode gameplay still.
Thanks klashman, i will update them and see if it makes a difference.
