Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

One thing I have noticed is that well timed sliding tackles often result in a foul. Not sure if it is down the the attributes of the individual player as the players I have had booked for it are not renowned for their tacking

Does anyone know if the skills on that video on the last page are down to skill cards because I am having problems pulling them off

yes its skill cards, it shows the skill card before he does the trick, try them with ribery or ronaldo

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

I think Konami needs to revamp dribbling mechanics next year..so that's its more in sync with the freedom of movement and take advantage of True ball tech.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Can someone really confirm that the UK and ASIAN Demos are more responsive, less laggish and overall better than the other ones?

Played all three versions now and to me they all feel same to me, really.

I had a major bug.
I was Bayern and beat Utd 1-0 but in the top left it said 1-0 to Utd.
At full time when the players were shaking hands all the name on the back of the Utd shirts were wrong.
Johhny Evans has blond dreadlocks and Rafeal had black dreads. Strange.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

About graphics: Is it me or Demos have always had graphics toned-down a bit?. I think this might be the case.

Anyways... I like the graphics in PES 2014, but I don't think we got anywhere near what we were promised. Photo-realistic graphics and stuff. Actually, I think the EDGE magazine wrote the whole article based on what Konami wanted them to see. They showed a few renders, like the Masuda 3D v.s Real Life and they went ahead and wrote the whole article about the game having close to real life graphics.

He looks like a chubby Billy Zane.

I thought the same. Can't wait to go to Edit Mode and change that, lol.

I agree.

Definetely agree.

Just as I thought. Thanks.

Really, I think they're great. Once you get the hang of using combinations of R1, R2 and the sticks you can really dance through traffic. But, like real football, you can hardly ever just sprint up the field willy nilly, like some other football games. Really forces you to move the ball around and take opportunities to run into gaps and through space to deliver the next pass or shot.

That's a good point. I think I'm the only one here that really likes the graphics:LOL: They're not cutting edge for sure but I really like the new levels of saturation and the clean look of everything. Up until now PES graphics have always looked washed out to me, although I do remember PES 2010 looking good, I think.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

I note the comments about responsiveness and button lag and I certainly don't discount them

but right now we seem to have this weighty, at times ponderous, physical game that, I think, derives part of its pleasures (for me, at least) from the inability of players to respond depending on context. When I get startled by a players lack of sudden response and then look at the replay I also notice that the context interfered with the player's response. The player is looking away or at his feet. Earlier Lahm was receiving a strong lofted ball from Hummels but was already glancing towards Robben making a run. Lahm fluffs his first touch, the ball is free for the taking. I can't confirm this on all occasions, of course, but I feel some acknowledgement of the context is necessary when judging player response

I would also worry that increased responsiveness will reduce the playfulness of the ball or the moment and we'll end up with that hyper-fast, ping-pongyness of 2012-2013 where things seemed too destined.

About button lag: I also think considering context is necessary. When Ozil received a through-ball coming diagonally from right to left I definitely pressed the shoot button, but damn if a moment didn't pass before the animation began. On review, Ozil prefers the left footed shot and he actually waited (ignoring my request to shoot) till the ball came across his body for the left foot to strike. I think stuff like that matters.

Anyway, I just played Germany vs. France like 10 times with the default formation and a custom tactic (very defensive, slow build up, but high forward pressure). I set up only one Combination tactic--so if the ball arrives in midfield, to either of the two holding midfielders the AMF will drop down into he circle on a dummy while the RMF cuts diagonally across to join the striker. I attempted just that one play with every possession, for I guess 10 games. Stupendous! No goals, though. Imagine a ML where you finally get a DMF with Pinpoint Pass and get to set your team for that play all day long!

Don't get me wrong mate..it solid as it is but some amazing things can be done with dribbling using True ball Tech.
Think about it mate..it will come to you;)

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Theres one thing im not enjoying at all. The shooting. I think it lacks variety (animations and ball physics). Anyone feeling the same?

That's what i felt, it felt that it was too consistent and then i changed it to advanced and so far it feels a bit more varied imo.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Whats the advantage of Advanced Shooting? [\b]

Advanced Through Ball is really nicely balanced. I've always struggled with them on manual, and they're far too effective on assisted, so it's a nice compromise.

More control, less predetermined, a great balance between Manual ( not fussed on its philosophy) and basic.

A tap of Through-ball in the air, and the consequential animation is as cheeky as it is sublime...

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Keepers feel terrible in demo 2. They concead so many goals and react very late. Demo 1 they were excellent. I knew konami would break something

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Ok. Compared to the leaked demo, this one had many great improvements in many aspects that makes the whole experience much better.

Maybe the best of all improvements they have made on this build is the awereness of players, they are always moving onto the ball and they know when to slow down when they get close to it, unlike the leaked demo in wich players would just keep running like crazy and leave the ball behind. And the other very welcome improvement is the fact that the manual pass with L2 responds faster, the power passing bar fills quicker, but becase of that it became more sensitive, so I still have to ges used to this change.

With these two improvements alone you can easily feel that the game flows much better. Individuality and the variety how teams play collectively have also been improved, but I'm not going into details with these. Catch up bug is notably less evident as well.

The thing that concerns me is the fact that I alwasy feel that there's weird slow motion feeling on attack, both for cpu and player.

Jimmy, I'm using Advanced Shooting. After about 15 games I think I've managed 6-7 shots, most from longish range and they are coming off a bit loopy, dropping down at the last second under the bar, always top corner.

Help me out here. I'd like to pull off a low screamer (or an over the bar screamer for that matter).

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

First impressions after having played about 10 games. In general, I like it, but there are some issues that needs to be ironed out. Here's a list of pros and cons I've been writing down as I've been playing.

- commentators worst yet, just horrible, not that it matters
- through pass - defender just left it rolling past him until the intended receiver caught up with it and took it
- slow response after a collision animation
- very clunky AI defending at times
- shooting reaction/animation is terribly slow
- collisions in general look very poor
- think i noticed slowdown in opposition box when crowded
- lots of clumsiness leading to goals, lots of goals being scored in general doesn't feel very natural (as is kind of a PES-trademark in my opinion)
- lots of silly looking "delayed" animations, animations following through although situation has changed
- CPU AI does huge amounts of stupid things in every game
- players take too long trapping the ball
- far too easy to pressure and tackle CPU defenders
- goalkeepers very slow out and too cautious
- response in tight situations are very sluggish

+ shots have real snap at times
+ pitches and stadia looks lovely
+ headers really improved

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

keepers aren't terrible but they do need tweeking.

They where alot better in demo 1. Game feels faster aswell too fast. Graphics are not as good either. I hold no hope for keepers on retail code as its something konami cant get right or break it. Demo 1 2as fine except for input lag and glitches. After playing demo 1 pes was back. Playing demo 2 its worse and back to broken. Disapointed.

Okay, have now played the US and UK PS3 versions - not convinced there's a difference.

Still has same good and bad bits, imo.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

WHAT?! you guys think keepers were better in demo 1? they were atrocious in that and are great in this tbh.

I just had an amazing game as Spain vs Germany, I was losing 1-3 and managed to pull back a late goal to make it 2-3, and 90% of my team turned red with heart and I ended up getting the equaliser in the 89th minute, I cheered out loud, such a good feeling playing this game!!

In that 3-3 game I scored one of my best PES goals, beautiful chipped through ball and Pedro did a half-volley cross into the box and Soldado did a step over flick into the back of the net, recorded it onto my digi cam, will upload it asap :)

But my god, it's really really hard to score, even with Spain, and they need to fix the sprinting problems, I know we dont want sprint whores but there is definitely some kind of problem with sprinting, its most noticeable when trying to sprint as a defender catching up with an attacker.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Like every year, the first impressions are " I'm speechless" " what a game " "the best PES for ever" and a few hours later issues and problems begin to appear :( Every year the same story.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Played for several hours today (playing Top Player, 1-bar assist, unassisted through balls and shooting). Stuff i've noticed:

- Playing one-touch football feels good and not like ping-pong, especially when playing with a formation like Spain's, with players close together
- AI makes mistakes but also plays good football(Playing on top player btw)
- IMO, AI much like Phoenix patch AI (switching tactics during gameplay, active, passing back or clearing the ball when no one to pass to)
- Jostling for the ball gives negatives and positives. Had a situation where Sergio Ramos and a Santos player were running towards a loose ball, use the right stick to body-shove. It resulted in Ramos aggressively pushing the Santos player off his feet. But in another situation, i was able to successfully recover the ball, without a foul or having the competing player falling to the ground.
- Double-tapping R1 (on PS3 obvs.) risky, yet helpful. After dancing past two players with Iniesta and using sprint, i was able to successfully lose them. In other cases, you could knock the ball too far ahead, only for an opposing player to retrieve the ball.
- Not sure if its just me, but you can feel the difference between several players. IE, players like Pique are able to hold of attackers due to his size, and also retrieve the ball while jostling for it. Players like Iniesta can jostle for some time (much like real life, they fight for the ball), but can also swiftly turn and lose a man. Players like Xavi, Riquelme, Pirlo, run the midfield, and can make all the correct passes.

Some negatives:

- Looks like through balls will be the most spammed way of scoring goals. When the tactic that makes one of your players run toward goal, or they run after a pass (just don't complete a one-two), defenders rarely notice them and dont mark. So one again this is the issue of player-awareness
- Bugs (clipping, slowdown). Most likely fixed on retail realease.
