I played the demo for 7 hours straight the other night, and even for an early incomplete Demo, it's potential is phenomenal.

I learnt so much new stuff which I will share later, but on Zero Assistance Passing ( which even in this code is better than PES13), Advanced shooting, and Advance Through-Ball, it's a dream.

The CPU AI is like nothing I've ever seen before, clever, composed and beautiful to watch. Never seen such brilliance and pure realistic football from CPU Ai in my life.

I have some decent footage captured, and will make a video as soon as I get time.

My biggest surprise and feature is the Right Stick, and how you shoulder barge to win balls, or even better, block plays by pushing it in the direction you anticipate the pass, cross, shot to be attempted.

The Right Stick is huge for ball winning and everything else I've just mentioned. Use it !!

And finally, fuck licences, it's what happens on the park that is what's most important, if badges and kits were what was most important I'd join the fucking Cub Scouts......

Give me realistic technical football representation, and I play on a school field with jumpers for goalposts. End of.

I read with this joy! So happy...

On release date, all major companies' servers will crash because of inconceivable download requests!
This phenomenon will be recorded in history as “Jimmy G-Force effect”.

haha, please understand that the games Konami make for different regions are tailor-made for those regions. So, to save disc space, they will take out whatever is unnecessary for that region. All gaming companies do this, and it is normal practice. Of course, with all the immigrations and globalization, it would make sense to have ALL commentaries in ALL games, but that wouldn't be the best in terms of profit because people will then import the cheapest version possible and that'd lower the income from Konami. For example, Asia version is practically same as Japanese version minus the Japanese commentary. Asia version is a lot cheaper than Japanese version (cost of living lower and competition price lower) and if they had the Japanese commentary in there, more Japanese people would import the Asian version rather than buy the Japanese version and that'd mean reduced profits for Konami.

But as many have said before, with PS3 being region free, you can import whatever game you want to best tailor fit the needs that you want. I am located in Hong Kong and have Japanese Games, UK Games, US Games and all the DLCs work. The only problem is for redeem codes that you get with the pre-order, you will need to set-up an account of that region to get it. So if you want the US version and got the pre-order kits, you will need a US account to download the pre-order kits, but after that, all add-ons and patches can be downloaded with any account

well, he can also hate konami. there is no reason to leave the best commentators on the planet out on the pal version. what's the point? I really don't get it. This is so pathetic.
I'm not sure, but the main reason for only adding a few audio languages is the low available space for Xbox 360 discs.

An audio language file (dt00_"x".img) sizes from the usual 500-600MB to the gigantic 1.5GB of Jon Kabira & Co.

And the game itself are another 5GB, so you run out of space after adding 3 or 4 languages.

But as many users said, other audio languages should be available to download if needed.

...But as many users said, other audio languages should be available to download if needed...

Absolutely. Unless there is a licensing restriction or large cost to Konami to have the extra commentaries on the Xbox marketplace or PSN store, then I'd like to be able to download extra commentaries that don't come on the disc. Many others would agree but just like the J-League DLC, I hold very little hope.

Haha.. no problem i think.

1. Konami did intend to release it but decided not to.
2. It's good for dev team to see if symptoms of this action failure still present on the retail version, so to prepare for immediate patch after release.
3. PES is exclusive to well-informed gamer. :P

ffs Jimmy take it easy
Seriously though, I love each one of your reviews. Licenses aren't important for either, I mean we used to play PES/WE and it had no official licenses but we still enjoyed it.
There are a lot of things I can live without if the gameplay is enjoyable enough.

Couldn't disagree more mate. You'e hit the nail on the head with the fact a lot of games you will only get 5-6 shots on target perhaps, per team. The assisted shooting playing will ALWAYS have the advantage. The computer assisted shooting is an absolute joke, it you are clean through and use the placement shooting you cannot miss, it's impossible.

A good manual shooter will also score a lot of one on ones, but they will be varied goals and some misses too.

You can just hold down shoot in the box with assisted shooting at some ridiculous angle and the ball will still pretty much always go on target, it's embarrassingly easy.

To be it's absolutely mental that two players can be matched up with the same assistance of zero passing yet one uses computer assistance for shooting.

I'm comfortable with manual passing, but manual shooting I found was so wayward and awkward that I'd hit it closer to the corner flag than to goal.
Missing easy tap ins, shooting all over the shop...need more practice I suppose.

I will try the manual shot on pes14 though.

But you can't tell me that assisted shooting is anywhere near as advantageous as assisted passing is, not by a country mile. In fact, it's really a non factor I've found, you'll score about the same on both settings and demonstrably so.

not sure if someone has written this already but on twitter i read a conversation between asim 8bitjose and pes united, and they said that master league this year will be a let down for alot of fans, how am i not surprised

It might be quite similar to PES 2013 which should not be surprising given the lack of info and given the other priorities Konami have had. To be honest, I'd rather get a solid gameplay base and have more improved modes next year if we had to choose between one or the other. Even though in an ideal world, both the gameplay and modes would be improved in this version.

We don't live in an ideal world though...

yeah i get what your saying what i dont understand is does it take 50 or 100 people to work on gameplay and animations, im no programmer so i wouldnt know, but i thought maybe changing several things in master league to make it more realistic wouldnt need many people to do, by the sounds of things i guess im wrong, whats most disappointing is that we are in the year 2014 not 2004.

Why would it be a let down? I'd like to have proof before taking anything from Asim now tbh.

Actually being able to switch clubs and also manage international teams is a plus to me if everything else stayed the same. I know I don't like having internationals the day before a league game though but I'll manage if that stayed in.

so do i unfortunately. i mean when they cant implement a simple feature like ball selection in online games what hope do we have of DLC commentary?

no man, you have to hate microsoft, microsoft make the xbox 360 region locked.

Sorry you're wrong there, plenty of games are released region free on the xbox 360, it's up to the publisher to decide if they want to region lock or not.

According to this:

http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=6&...evolution+soccer&bin_search_results=0&x=0&y=0

Konami always region lock PES.

Whereas even Madden for example from EA Sports is often region free:

http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=6&...in_search=madden&bin_search_results=0&x=0&y=0

And EA Sports are supposed to be the big devil aren't they? ;)

Why dont we all send Adam messages on twitter asking for Commentary DLC to be added?

I really cannot see a reason why Konami cant just add them as optional DLC...

Concerning passing/shooting options:

-I find advanced shooting the worst of the three. Not sure how it works, but i mostly hit floaty balls. manual is good fun, auto is the old classic pes one which gives the most realistic outcome vs AI. But manual is good for on line

-Passing assistance is not really well implemented, i hardly noticed much difference from 0-4 in terms of passing angles, to me it's an 16 directional pass, no way it's 360, assistance is more visible in the strengh of the pass. triangle low passing seems actually 8 direction to me even on manual, it gets intercepted most of the times (which is good since previous game suffered from that through ball bug).

-Crossing has been simplified, now it's 1 or 2 tap, the 3 taps low crossing had been reduced to 2. I think it's a good overall, even if i kinda miss the old school options. r2 as usual for high cross.

In general i am old school, i think passing should be stats based.

HIGHLIGHTS AND REPLAYS are so bad and annoying that i have delayed my preorder to see if things improved in the real DEMO. I am big sucker for two things:
-Game FLow
- Relaxing at the end of the game watching highlights

Replays break game flow and Highlights at end game are a painfully slow and ugly.

Final decision will be made once i find out more about game modes, i kinda tired of playing on line vs all sort of abusers (in all game not onlyu pes), so i need solid single player experience.

Totally agree. Advanced shooting is extremely floaty & unrealistic. Not to mention confusing.
Manual is by far the best for me. You get pace, oomph and low direction.

Does anyone played a later code than the leaked demo (Gamescom?) and could verify if real 360 degree manual passing is still an option, without having to press L2 each time?

Thanks in advance.

I'd put up with it but it would annoy the crap out of me, after all it has nothing to do with engines, console limitations or anything technical. The way they schedule the fixtures in ML is just a combination of piss poor design and sheer laziness. I suspect it was added like that the first time (whichever version of PES that was) and nobody's looked at it since.

Hopefully someone, somewhere at Konami will have finaly picked up on this, but given the total lack of news it doesn't look hopeful that ML has received any TLC at all.

Asim's opinion became irrilevant to me the day he said on wenb Pes 2014 was like Pes 2013 plus some new animations. He said that Fox Engine was not visible, at all.

I was already suspicious, looking at the videos it seemed to me like much more than Pes 2013 with new animations.
But the mostly positive impressions over here from people that probably played the same version as he played showed that opinions are opinions.

And Asim's opinion about Pes is extremely different from mine

I think people need to accept that this year is the foundation for the new PES. This is totally apparent for those who have played the poor demo. If Konami get their heads out of their ass when it comes to licensing and being locked out, PES has a bright future. You certainly can't expect to have everything in one game, there's only so much resources and time that the team has and they have done great in re-building PES.

As far as gameplay goes and how realistic it looks, PES is leagues ahead of FIFA. FIFA is simple and fun for the majority of people who buy it, but there's certainly a crowd for sim football games and PES is headed in the right direction. If the issues from the demo are fixed (floaty shooting, players awareness in through balls, some cursor issues and no input lag), then I can say that this PES is above and beyond any PES we've ever played. Or any football game for that matter. It's up to Konami to improve the right things since the E3 build.

Asim? To me, he's gone. His opinion is down the ladder after all the crap on his twitter. Some was way OTT, but according to him it's all okay in the name of banter.

Also i don't like the fact he still think he represent the fans.

I can think of some better questions, like where is the news about the modes? The longer it takes, the more I suspect there is not much to say. In other words, maybe a lot is unchanged compared with PES 2013 game-modes. I have read that Adam said he has to do a lot of other work and needed to free some time for announcements. I don't know if that is the right attitude to clients ( which we are ).
Probably he is more cautios the last weeks. He made some errors in early announcements.

Something else: I read above about the right stick block. Never heared about that; how does that work?

Agreed.

I have actually given Manual Shooting a good couple of hours on the leaked demo, and I'm still not a fan. I set it up as a two-player game, then basically just kept passing the ball from the keeper from the player 2 pad
to my striker.

Sure, you can get alot of ummph on the shots, but I don't feel you have the type of control on direction as I'd hoped. I also still can't fully buy into it's philosophy. Zero Passing, sure, that changes the game mechanics completely and makes you adhere to all the basic fundamentals of football. I don't believe Manual Shooting does that. Not at all.

Although I agree, that at times, and with the best players, PES 2013's default shooting was probably a tad too easy. Still, I prefer that over hitting the corner flag or worse still, having a shot fly out for a throw :CONFUSE:

I didn't find a lot of variation in direction on the Manual Shooting when the ball actually hit the target, which felt strange. As that is exactly what it should give you. I scored some screamers, but they all felt like 100mph rockets with little or no change with the flight of the ball.

I appreciate it's something I'd have to master, but I don't want to. Shooting isn't like that in my opinion. Sure IRL you can hit the odd Row Z shot, but the majority of the time, it's the opposite.

Like my old coach would say 'The goals don't move, get your head down and put your foot through it son'. And he's right, that's what it's all about. Even on default shooting, you still need angles, posture, correct foot and timing correct, the only easier option was the R2 Controlled Shot.

Contrary to what people are saying, I'm enjoying Advanced Shooting, I find it a nice new option, and it's the one I'll be sticking with for sure. I do like the option to drill a low shot with R1 (I believe that's the default button for it ?!) and I feel I have more control over all, without it feeling heavily stat assisted.

I'm all for stats when it comes to shooting though, but for some reason, this Advanced Shooting option feels right for me. I'll never buy into Full Manual, it's just not what I believe in, or enjoy.

Does anyone take this Asim character seriously ? He talks utter nonsense...

Forget Asim, he should be called Asif..... !!

You have to be really good at manual shooting. I did several statistics for several leagues I played in and one thing stood for sure: the percentage of goals per shot (either shot on target or all shots) was significantly higher for assisted than manual shooting. Only very experienced players with more than 700 MLO-Games on manual shooting reached up to the percentage of assisted players (but not doing better than them).

Especially one factor contributed to that: with shooting assistance you will get way more shoots on goal that on manual. paired with known weaknesses of goalkeepers you will reach more goals. And of course..red form arrow will influence assisted massively, unassisted minorly.
