Hi,
for those who have been able to play the leaked demo... Do you think that it has tactically improved?
PES has always been good tactically.
I'm and old school pes gamer who have been really disappointed with the approaches made in the PS3/360 generation and that had to turn into a fifa gamer because pes could not even resist the comparison.
In technology for Animations and physics they where massively behind. Not in the fundamentals however
I was glad to see that we had reached a game as realistic as was FIFA 12. That year FIFA implemented a totally game changer system that made us play in a whole different way. Since PES 3/5, football simulator had gone amateurish, but with FIFA 12 those who longed for a genuine football - as a collective sport- game were finally listened. It was not about run, but about think, find and destroy spaces while attacking or defending. It was hard and most people did not accomplish to feel satisfied with the new defending system so EA dumbed it down for FIFA 13. Such a shame.
You mean that tactical defending gimmick?
Where every game was the same, pass, pass, pass, pass, score the same goal from the same and and just pass the ball around because the AI couldn't touch anyone? Watching the AI conjure the same mind-numbing stupid attack everytime? Every single match being the same, every player behaving the exact same way.
That was a cop out from EA with a clear refusal to add proper momentum and inertia, a proper stamina system, and not making the tackling so god dam easy in the first place so pressuring wasn't so effective. Not to mention EA failing to implement even basic tactics system so the AI off the ball would form together with the midfield being dynamic, helping its defence out, not like it has always been like your playing table football its so fucking rigid.
This is PES, this will offer you variety. FIFA doesn't do basic wisdom, they just trick you and find some other new pathetic gimmick.
I'm not really good at telling this kind of stuff just by watching gameplay vids, so i aks... do we have to think to create spaces for our plays when attacking? Is just run/pressing when defending or we actually have to close up lines, think before going for a tackle, do collective pressing, etc, etc? Does CPU do this kind of stuff?
Depends on the tactics.
Football games vary, some teams just attack and you will get chances against them, some teams have a good balance between attack and defence, some teams a extremely defensive and hard to break down, some teams sit deep and coutner, some pressure high up the pitch, some play tiki taka possession football.
That is football, variety! It depends on the players, the league the stats and team setup.
In Brazil, teams stand off, build very slowly from the back, you have tons of space to do tricks and passing.
In League two, there is usually no more than about 4 passes put together the entire game, it's pure kick and rush!
In Holland, its all about attacking, usually with a 4-3-3 formation.
This is what PES will offer, this is what it has offered last year with 2013, and to a lesser extent 2012/2011, technically lacking in animations but getting the fundamentals right. This year looks great because the beautiful new engine with top notch animations are implement and rebuilt with all the fundamental groundwork Konami have been doing the last 3-4 years.
The best challenge a game can offer is not he same match over and over, not the same, pass, pass, pass, pass, score from 45 degrees or power it from just outside the box straight, no. The best challenge is variety, every game offering a totally new challenge.
I been editing the tactics for most teams in the leagues I play in PES the last few years and thats the results I get. variety.
