PES 2014 Discussion Thread

I made the mistake of presuming that the game would improve in a linear progression. I didn't account for the fact that the PS2 is clearly the best console ever made, so much so that development gets put off for the next gen versions, crippling the series for years to come. It still had it's moments though.

HERETIC!!!!!

Yes I am watching the video and thinking, "this is meant to show a specific feature".

Unfortunately this isn't the world we live in anymore. Look at any trailer video released for GTA V, people were shitting themselves over the possible existence of a shed on top of a mountain. People seem to look for even the most pointless of details just to find something to talk about.

Trailers like these need to show the game as being absolutely shit hot, I haven't seen any other trailers for PES 2014 barring the heart one and what I took away from it (as someone who is effectively neutral) is that the heart stuff is pointless fluff and that the shooting animations look dreadful.

I think Konami are just terrible at putting on makeup. They've always made decent football games that you could properly show off but instead time and time again they make it look clunky and unrealistic.

HERETIC!!!!!

I didn't say that this was the wrong strategy. As Konami decided to do this I assume it was a tactical nosedive of one of their best assets for some sort of gain that we are, as yet, unfamiliar with.

In all seriousness, if you only play football games year in, year out then things can get a bit stale. I try and mix and match things a bit more these days for that bit of variety.

Exactly, hence the point about movie trailers being better than the actual movie.

Its still ridiculous!

I don´t think it was on purpose but they went back on the track with PES2011. So this is this a year in or year out for you to play a football game?

how it's possible ???
same position but different game

People getting so irate over is just not good enough I'm sorry, this is a game, don't go getting angry and depressed over a game trailer not being to your linking and over analysing things, getting yourself all heated for what?

Excessive negative energy makes you ill.

So many years without a decent football game generate this situation, specially for people who was a kid-early teen around PS2 PES and now are full adults with an actual life. Of course there are the ones who overreact to everything, but the average feeling here is frustration. Frustration about how a company like Konami let their football saga fall this way. All this **** is Konami's fault. They're the ones who should provide the best product possible, up to today standards, and they didn't. In the end, the customer is always right.

Even the PS2 classic games never had any great trailers either, there isn't a very good marketing department. They are rather out of touch with the western expectation in terms of Marketing.

Not everything is going to be shown off like its a Movie as we see from Sky Sports and the Premier league, we have become so accustom to this in the west, anything less than a Movie like trailer is not good enough.

You're right, but we are in late 2013. As a company you should adapt to the current trends in marketing/PR. Konami needs to realize it's not 2002-5 anymore (Kojima is the exception though, he demoed is capable to understand western marketing). In marketing, you need to care about every single detail. Excuses like "we're just showing this feature" are not valid today.

I knew it. It's more of a testbed demo of a play. It seems to be customizable as well. And ppl were genuinely worried that these feature videos were straight gameplay off the screen.

Probably because they are adults with an actual life!

Oh. By the way men, HEART is able to be turned off!!

Santi329 ‏@Santi329 5h

@Adam_Bhatti hey adam, is there any chance to give us the option to disable Heart AND conditional arrows in offline leagues with friends?

Adam Bhatti ‏@Adam_Bhatti 5h
@Santi329 yes there is an option

No, I mean this, this can be serious, when I speak about people being negative for the sake of it. I learn this the hard way this year with the disasters which have happened to my family.

People getting so irate over is just not good enough I'm sorry, this is a game, don't go getting angry and depressed over a game trailer not being to your linking and over analysing things, getting yourself all heated for what?

Yes I am watching the video and thinking, "this is meant to show a specific feature". You know as well as I do how tough PES is on Top Player or Superstar. Why play a really hard match vs the CPU to show off a 'goal' or a 'tackle' to simply show how a function works.

What even defines a worthwhile goal to put in a trailer considering no defensive AI errors are acceptable?

What a 30 yard screamer, but that is 'unrealistic'

Dribble round 2, 3 players? 'bad defending again'?

A Header? 'bad marking'

You see my point now? Any type of goal Konami could of put there and people could say "Oh the Defensive AI is poor", "Look at the error by the center back",

The Defensive AI is already there in PES 2013, it will not be worse in 2014, so why people worry is the negative energy again!

This is your definition of what you want Konami to do, Your in a battle vs Konami and Konami must appease your wishes or its not good enough.

You need to be free enough to understand Konami have 10,000,000 other people to appease, so if you are not appeased, its hardly the end of the world is it? You can say its not good enough for you and get irate but how is that helping you exactly, or anyone Finally this is Konami we are talking about. The PES 2014 trailer at E3 is the best trailer they have ever done, I think it was maybe too good and we expected every trailer to be the same.

Forgetting the fact.

Its a Trailer!

why are get getting so worked up in the first place, who on earth will remembers the trailer if the gameplay is satisfactory to peoples needs anyway?

Then again we live in a era which the movie trailers are usually better than the feature length movies themselves. Negative energy makes you totally lose sight of what this is. Take this as a metaphor.

i remember watching this on a magazine disk add on and was blown away by all the gameplay footage, no messing around back then just let the football do the talking. theres too much trying to please the community these days, just make the fucking game and dont ask anyone for feedback

I'm starting to subscribe to this approach. Konami were at their best when community input was zero. Plus PES has always been an esoteric title with cult appeal, as was often the way with the best Japanese titles from back in the day.

I remember when you didn't even need gameplay to get you going, just seeing the intro for the below and realising that Beckham's style of dead ball striking would be in the game was epic in itself.

That's more than clear by now, because from the moment they open themselves to playtest feedback the game seems to get worse and worse, for the last 3 years at least.

It's amazing to see the amount of player individuality present in PS2 games. Seriously, the gameplay was amazing. Good old times.

These my friend were times that you knew with all confidence that the game will be awesome. Not like in the last 6 years that is pure fear and mystery until the day you play the demo, where the worst part is revealed.

Well if they are trying to create a game based on the opinions of Premire League and La liga fans then you're going to have a very unfamiliar hybrid of styles right off the bat. When you throw in fan input from all over the world before then putting it through the Japanese filtration system then it's a miracle we end up with two goals and a ball.

They need to treat the community with contempt and disdain that we deserve as we are absolutely clueless and, worryingly, seem to excel in destroying the hopes and dreams of children everywhere.

Anyone who submitted feedback to Konami is personally responsible for where we are today.

I know, ego's mate.

In the PS2 era, people learned to play the game, nowadays you get so many people want a game to fit their ego's perception of how a game should play rather than overcoming their own shortcomings.

Not all feedback is good feedback.

exactly (if that was sarcasm)

i would strongly argue that if konami rely so much on fan feedback to make/adjust their game then they dont have any real vision of their own to follow in the first place

konami make the decisions and program the game, not the fans. dont blame the fans

I know your game mate. I bet you were the one who made a million fake accounts advising them to develop their animations based on Subbuteo.

to be blunt: do you really think without fan feedback of any kind that konami would have made anything better than what we've had?

Who knows? More to the point, does our feedback even get to Japan?

The problem with developing a football game, aside from the complexity of the sport, is how to satisfy fans across the globe that want different things from the game. We've already heard how South American PES fans want different things to their European counterparts.

Konami's slightly eccentric Japanese vision of football worked well for them in the past and delivered the closest we've had to a football sim. They just didn't know how to take that approach onto newer technology.

on a different note the fans gave zero feedback for PES 2008 thats where it all went wrong

wonder where seabass is? recieving 50 lashes somewhere?

im think if konami put controls all in manual mode, passes and shoots the game blows our minds, cause when they put assisted help, the game its not the same, i play pes 2013 all in manual mode and no guidance, and its a very good soccer simulation game, if the programmers erradicates the assisted passes and shooting, well its another dimension.

the guys playing passes with with full power each time and they pretty much suck, but im pleased with the game i thought it was much better than the tutorial vids, the tackles where amazing, heading was beautiful, goalkeeper save looked great and overall great, but there are a couple of things that still need to be worked on.

well, they could have asked 2 guys who actually know how to play the game other than trying to spam forward passes imo

Yeah, not the best example of how to play the game. But overall it look like just like E3 demo. Hoping that demo will be like this.
