I don't ever remember if I ever talked anything about pes 2013. it ain't even worth it imo. if I said it(14) looked like fifa now, it's because I think it's indeed such, not for the sake of speaking bad about the game.

I'd love to pes to be great as in the ps1 era but to me it seems like they totally lost that pes identity.

I see PES in that video as bright as day.

How do you think it "lost" its identity though?

Some feedbacks from IGN comment section:

"The movements are still so robotic... they run like they have a broomstick up their ass."

"I think it looks pretty good, annimations just need sped up a bit."

"Looks good but the animations still look a bit sluggish and unrealistic at times but then sometimes it looks amazing."

Only a matter of time before they realize the concept of inertia and weight-shifting.

What if i told you Fifa's animations are also robotic compared to real-life/Matrix Morpheus(come on Fifa player models don't even look like real human beings ) but have better transitions and are smoother than PES ones.

Actually no, the one comment about running with broomsticks is quite accurate. Some of the off the ball movement animations are still really bad. Check out Balotelli 3-4 min mark. His ball-tracking and stop-start animations look positively awful, very last-gen. No inertia whatsoever.

This is a key point here.

People are automatically comparing them to FIFA, someone a few of us realized a very, very long time ago FIFA animations look better than 'Real Football' Itself.

No bad technique, few bad first touches, no inertia or momentum, all animations picked are 'good looking' and 'sexy', you don't see the ugly side of football whatsoever in that game, everything is silky smooth, players glide instead of run, in the end the game looks nicer and more responsive than real football itself.

Take the passing for example, 'ping pong' was such an issue back in the day, EA decided to simply break the passing altogether, instead we see lots of cool, sexy passing animations but the animations aren't dynamic enough to allow good flowing passing movements. They just look really nice.

Similar with PES 2010, the engine was old and essential broken but the motion capped animations themselves looked fantastic.

Will be interesting to see how the trick animations are implemented based on stats.

Take players with a high level of technique and array of tricks in Neymar, Ronaldinho, Wilfred Zaha, Adel Tarrabt and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

They all do tricks, but tey perform them differently due to their ability.

Neymar is a stick figure, he has high agility so tricks would him would be performed very responsively and you can combine multiple ones together stationary or running with the ball.

Ronaldinho and Zlatan tricks would be best suited when they are either walking or stationary, usually to get out of a corner, Ronaldinho lost most off his pace, Zlatan doesn't have great acceleration (decent sprint speed however).

Tarrabt very skilful however isn't nearly as agile as Neymar or Hazard etc.. so they will be performed slightly slower so if your running with him he won't take it past 3, 4 players since he doesn't really have the movement, unless your playing against championship or League 1 teams etc...

and Finally with Wilfred Zaha, He does all the tricks but his technique isn't great so it would be nice to see him not perform them with inch perfect accuracy. This should be a general thing, i want to see stuff like this happen you try tricks with technically deficient players.

The bad animations in PES over the past few years do not make the game more authentic. They just make it painful to look at. Animation quality and gameplay quality are two different topics and have nothing to do with each other.

I don't see any bad animation per se, but I do feel, once again, that the touches on the ball on controlled dribbling looks too light (which makes it easy to compare to FIFA).

Everything else looks good, but I really really really need to play this asap

Now all we need is a demo, can't wait :BOUNCE: and seeing the gameplay not once cross my mind it's look like fifa, totally different:SMOKIN:

What on earth did that have to do with my point? I was talking about FIFA's animations looking better than what you see in real football because it discards all the inertia and momentum and all the ugly stuff so everything looks sexy. :CONFUSE: Are you Ok, or are you so angry you need everyone else to feel as miserable as you do?

anyway, looking back at PES 2013 tricks. here is Neymar.

YouTube - PES 2013 Testing Player ID - Neymar

The programming is very good, The agility the guy has, some of the little movements are ONLY available to him, and its the same if you had Hazard, the speed in which he performs them are faster than others, even players like Ribery etc... The issue is quite obviously the old engine is just not fluid enough to show Neymar in his full glory.

Will be interesting to see what is capable on this new engine. FIFA's tricks will still be far ahead, the eninge it runs on is so much better, so it's about if PES is capable of offering that individuality unlike we see in FIFA where every player performs them in the same carbon copy motion.

I didn't attack you. I engaged you in a dialogue and thoughtfully responded to your comment about EA/FIFA supposedly choosing sexy animations over proper player behaviour and gameplay. Your antagonistic response says much more about you and your level of anger than it does about mine bro.

So that "no black screen" in throw ins is just for when a player is really close to pick the ball up right away? Like the quick free kicks. I haven't watched all the videos but I think I have only noticed one of these, where a player runs outside the pitch to collect the ball.

Thats true. I already asked this in an Q/A thread ages ago :D

Looks good overall. Some legitimate concerns however:

Animations look great, apart from Free Kicks, Keeper animations are very good but they get up too slow, the goal was silly, Neuer got up too slowly after the good save and was confused, dived in the wrong direction. They need to be more responsive...

I think GK animations are not too slow. It wouldn’t feel right if this animations were faster. This problem with keepers would be solved if they had greater number of different types on animations. I don’t understand why KONAMI does not do that already. It’s like they implemented GK moves for some sort of text book. We don’t have asymmetrical arms and legs movement, proper kneeling, GK sliding to reach the ball and many other things That’s why Neuer looked confused – did not “know” what to do.
KONAMI fixed formation screen in the beginning of the mach. Maybe they’ll (at least) add spitting in gloves and catching red balloons Reina style :) As long as they do NOT copy Rene Higuita’s moves.

35+ more GK animations and GK will be perfect. It is not that hard. It is basic “line of sight” programming thing.

Everything else is great.

Really liked the last vid, animations look very good comparing to the Germany x Germany vid i saw. Of course theres a couples ones that dont feel right, but i think i can leave with that.

Apart from that, they played quite decent (even for assisted :TWIST:), trying some combinations, not using lots of longballs, although i would like to see lobs effectiveness.

PES is my only hope for a decente football game this year.

Btw, can anyone tell me if there will be full manual and any kind of filter for online?

Cheers

It's a bit like playing online COD with unlimited ammo and 4X the armour of the next guy, plus twice the speed.

Now why would anyone let a matchup like this happen and give an unfair advantage? I don't think it's elitist when impossible passes are pulled off with little to no skill against real opponents, it kills the joy of the game.

40 meter bullet passes, off balance, behind the back, with Carrick, laser guided, perfect 9 times out of 10 for an on-running striker, the defender stiff because of pass support. You call that football?

This.

It's two different games, so give us the option to play the one we prefer with like-minded players. Is it that hard to have two seperate lobbies for the game modes ?

continuing from the throw in stuff, I haven't noticed any weather either (apart from the good weather, of course). If the sluggish framerate in cut scenes from the videos is anything to go by, I'd imagine they'd want to cut that stuff all together. They wouldn't get away with not having rain, but no snow would be a huge disappointment for me, especially since they promised it last year (for 2014)

Konami need to hire a number of top level keepers for their animations in the future.

I feel for that goal, if they add an awareness for a keeper to almost roll himself back into facing forward and worked on animations so keepers try to keep their eyes on the ball even after the save then they will be at a very high level. Still overall I'm very impressed with the keepers.

Apart from that and the dead ball animations everything else is as you said fine.
