PES 2011 Discussion thread

I don't get it, haven't you said in this forum that the AI in PES 2011 were not alive enough not making space and making runs at the right time... Now you say it's all perfect?

I also very much love this demo and feel that there is way less scripting going on than in older PES and all Fifa-games but I also must state that the attacking-AI of the CPU on top-player in the PC-version is weak, completely tame.

I played with Bayern against Barca and Barca couldn't make a single goal in four, five games... mind you the defense was top-notch I had problems making goals myself usually we end nil-nil or 1:0 for me... but the CPU-AI poses no threat at all in attacking and I'm very bad at defending still not being intune with the game, still learning.

With my "still-learning-the-ropes"-phase they should skin me at top-player, so there is clearly something wrong with the attacking-AI, wouldn't you say?

Theres nothing wrong with the attacking ai it makes fifa look pedestrian and slow plus you cant place passes like you can in pes2011 into small gaps.Try setting barca/bayern to counter-attack and long ball when your level, possession(offense)and long ball when your ahead, and all out attack and long ball when your behind.Set the sliders to high on support and attack, and play with lots of width. When youve done this watch the difference its like magic!!!!!!!!!!

Use your playmakers and make sure your quick on your cursor changes and play football dont just overun players out of position(think like a footballer).Create the space for them to run into with your passing and stretch the opposition to make space. Its ALSO key to master the long ball and long passing dynamic. If your not controlling the game you cant expect the ai to react. Its not like fifa,in pes2011 you have more manual control of the players so they will freeze or stop if your not reacting quickly with your cursor or you switch suddenly or by accident..

The niggles you mention that i had in my first few days of playing the game are gone because i have mastered the passing system and the ai compliments this, its not like fifa where you make a mistake and you get away it,the ai in fifa is to forgiving and its almost impossible to suck the opposition out of position, when in pes if you have half a yard you have half a yard theres no catching you if your cursor assigned player is quicker or if your opponent snaps in a mis-judges...your gone.

As someone who played alot of fifa10 and FWC as well as pes2010 and blue samuri i couldnt go back to any of these games, different dimension pes2011!.Pes2011 comes alive when you make it come alive with your play(its reactive and responds to your creativity),you create the script, you cant expect your players to automatically play well, you have to earn the right by using the length and width of the pitch and your brain.

The top teams are like high performance cars there only as good as the person using them and thats the beauty of pes2011,this is a game for the skilled gamer.

Defendings a art, dont just press, make sure you dont let the opposition get behind you and dont let it come inside, show it down the channels, your defence will be like a fortress and unless the cpu or a human turns the magic on your un-penetrable.Lastly but most importantly relax and be gentle with the buttons and stick(pes2011 is super subtle),your in total control, play the game at the tempo you like and speed the game up and slow it down with your play.If you just press the game will punish you(so will the ref),its designed to be played like the real game and follows the same basic principles. The defensive ai will give you the support off the ball if you position it right and dont loose its compactness as will the rest of your team.

There is plenty wrong with the attacking AI when I play Expander. It doesn't seem to even want to attack when I play, maybe that's just me. Neither games are great but at least on FIFA it will always do something when you tell it to.

Downloaded the WE demo. I can't believe that people think it's the same as the PES demo.

There are far less freekicks on both sides, less offsides, more challenging AI and the ball sounds are horrible. Surely I'm not imagining this? I'll boot up PES2011 later to confirm but to me it seems the WE demo is a later code or more polished.

No offense bud,but you dont understand real football then.Anyway im not going to waste my time defending pes2011,everyone who cant see it now will be raving on about it in the months to come, and the fact that ive already converted 6 of my mates away from fifa this year speaks volumes.

The problem I (and others, by the sounds) have with the AI movement is not that it isn't attacking enough or that it doesn't make enough forward runs, its that the AI's appreciation and awareness of where the space is seems limited at best.

My experience of the demo is that my teammates either A) move to a spot and stand unhelpfully still (you rarely see a footballer actually stationary, but it happens here), or B) aim at a gap between the centre backs and sprint to that point in a straight line. It can feel rigid and quite binary. Especially when two of your teammates elect to be in the same place at the same time.

I see very little organic movement into space. Shuffling a few lateral yards to create a passing lane, or recognising and exploiting the open grass on the flanks, or starting runs and then bending them when better space opens up... instead forward runs seem to consist mostly of sprinting in a straight line towards the centrepoint of the goal, rather than actually identifying where the space is.

It's not at all that I want to commit more players to attack, I don't... I just want my teammates around me to show more awareness in their movement. It's a big minus for me in the matches I've played.

Are you playing with the edit management settings?,if not try this,no shit the players in pes are way more offensive in pes2011 then fifa10,fwc and fifa11 and make the right movements all over the pitch(and this is coming from a manual fifa player that plays on veteran and a old school pes junky). Its probably got more to do with the way your playing the game, plus you pass into the spaces and the players make the runs just like real life because they also drop inside to recieve, its not like fifa where there running off and the opposition always intercepts because they cant do both. You also have pass and go r2 and l1(one-two)to make advanced runs manually.

ERN DOG

Ive got the winning eleven demo on my ps3 in which you get the dreamy japan and spain.Have no problem with the edit management settings because its colour co-ordinated and im used to it from the pes2011 demo.

u built your PC yet? PES might work fine on your old machine because this morning i was playing on my pentium 4 with a 7800gtx card inside and was averaging 30ps at 720p res. mind you it is a bit choppy at 30fps though but still playable.

Mind you, i was playing at max settings so maybe setting it to medium will be fine.

This game rocks on PC man

Still no demo on PSN or Xbox Store...This is getting real old! I have been playing and warming up to Fifa11 all this time. I guess that's what Konami want, their potential customers having only a copy of their rival's game for a whole week.

@henrys hand

Played 2 games after trying your tips and it works better now! Player-Support on a height value (17-20) seems to be the key. Deleting the strategy seems to be another piece of the puzzle. Now i need to play around with all this settings to find the right one that fits my style of play.

But overall game gets better now. Thank you!

Oh and @napo_rz. Thank you too. I'm going to test your settings soon.

This could be the case. I've heard that in Japan the certification process for demos is not as lengthy as it is in Europe so they can be uploaded to the PSN store at short notice.

Then again, the PES2011 demo is supposed to represent final code, so it could be that there are genuine differences between it and WE2011.

i've had the ref thing before too

just looks silly but it's not harmful

on the other hand i just had a 2player game against nobody (left the other controller on the bed). CPU gave away a penalty against me :S

plus Olic can't shoot at all whereas Muller is seemingly brilliant at shooting that's what i gathered from it. i really like the way you can only put power on shots with certain players (van bommel, schweinsteiger, muller) rather than all of them

Olic hasn't scored outside of the box in his career...

Yes but you are the legendary Cro who jimmy speaks so highly of. Us mere mortals are not that good.;)

Also about the advantage rule i have seen it played a couple of times but not enough when its clear it should be.(pc version)

haha thanks mate, I'm no PES kickass or anything, I just like passing, moving and creating iniature actions, also mix it up with a long ball here and there. I just seem to be much better than the CPU.

wtf are you smoking? the demo for ps3 been out a week and a half and the 360 came out Wednesday

Lucky shot. I hate Ivica Olic, hate his idiotic stepovers, his dumb low crosses to nobody, his shocking control and his 10 chances for one goal ratio. Oh man if only Eduardo didn't get his leg snapped in half..

This was the tipping point.

Expander can you please stop posting utter hyperbole and replying to everyone with 'well I have been playing football games so I know what I'm talking about'. I'd have thought your infamous, complete flipflop only a short while ago would have been enough reason for you to realise why. For a day or two your 20 years of football experience and career as a dev saw you coming to the same conclusion as Rod. I genuinely cringed when I read your replies to Thypari and Rod.

This game is NOT perfect. It's not perfectly balanced either. It's extremely well balanced from the looks of it, though only playing online for a good while can truly test the mettle of a football game's robustness, when the public collectively start finding the paths of least resistance.

Not yet. I'm playing it on my laptop and it's working just fine. Not choppy at all :)

You must be kidding. I play the PS3 demo a week now.

He's on about the American store. They don't have it yet.

Yes, I'm in the USA. It is ok for me, I can wait for the demo or even download the demo for the PC.

However, what makes me facepalm is the poor display of marketing displayed here. People in North America don't enjoy playing football games??

Yeah same here. Tried to access the UK store via the PS3 after opening a UK account online no luck that way. Don't know why Konami won't allow US users easy access to the demo via the PS store. Surely they must know you can't get the demo. EA has a large presence right there on the first page of the demos.
Getting an appreciation of the 2010 version since I can't play the demo. What a great game it is. If 2011 is even a slight improvement over that I will be happy enough.

Theres nothing wrong with the attacking ai ...

I think you misunderstood my posting or didn't read it thoroughly. I talked about the attacking-AI of the opponent CPU-team that I'm playing against.

I was playing with Bayern Munich against the best team of the world: Barcelona, at the highest AI-setting Top-player and Barcelona wasn't able to make a single goal against me for six games and counting, despite me being still inexperienced in the game.

So judging from that there must be something wrong with the CPU-attacking-AI of the opponent's team... it is too tame.

It's all on PC, I haven't yet tested the console-version.
