PES 2011 Discussion thread

...and I've just described that they've changed again.

So after having no clue 2 hours ago, I really like the pen system now. A lot more user input than the old games (never tried 2010 mind)

Jimmy, I pushed down instead of up, and yes it does take all the pace off the ball, so in effect its a little dink penalty. Now all we need is the switch foot penalty which some Spanish U-19 kid did a month or two ago.

John Murphy said the first squad update will be available 1 month after release, which is an unacceptably long time in my opinion.

What was so hard for them to make the squads properly. It shouldnt be a problem ! WTF ? There is even edit mode w could do it ! A month is not acceptable

Hi guys, new to the site.

Been reading some comments about the game on here and I'm sensing the overall attitude is positive, although there are them few people that make you wonder.

Now I've been a fan since I was about 11 with pes 2 on ps1 ( my fave moment being a simple recreation of Micheal Owens goal against the argies) I did however revert to FIFA last year and found that if you didn't just pass it around like hot potato it played a good game. I haven't played the demo yet as had to leave for a football trip the day it came out :(.

Now honest answers here, does pes recreate football well enough to warrant a £40 quid pricetag? Or will I have to whip pes 5 out again (keeping it just in case) now any free flowing football is good for me as I'm a Watford fan a pass on the floor is somewhat unknown.

Imo, if you liked PES5, not PES6, you might just love this.

If you enjoyed Fifa 10 and WC, you might prefer Fifa 11.

You'll have to try the demos still to decide for yourself.

sad thing is, I can't play the demo until the day before it actually comes out as I'm away :(, I didn't like wc much but that's cause the nostalgia of taking a shit club up ranks wasn't there,

I'm sure I'll love it,I don't mind all the bugs, I just want to be able to flick from HDMI 1(Sky Sports) and HDMI 2 (xbox 360) and not see much difference!

Some things that annoy me. Too many little fouls. Ref blows for everything. And a replay for every single thing that happens...grrrrrrrr

Dude they gotta market the game. I really think they put the replay for every nimble foul so you can see why you got fouled. Its a marketing ploy I hope...I doubt they will be this much replays in the game...

PS I hope this doesn't come back to bite me..With Konami you never know :JAY:

Just hit the play/pause button on your controller when the replay begins, this will skip replays.

Tbh it doesn't annoy me in the slightest. I do watch them most of the time and if I don't I just skip.

Yeah I know that but they just show replay for the slightest fouls. It really shouldn't be that way.. I will refer it for were toned down a lil to maybe cynical fouls or card worthy fouls.

After reading Olly's post about the change in the Penalty System, I thought I'd better check it out and see how it differed from PES 2010. The very same principles apply, the only difference being that you have to choose your direction first and the height second, and the power of the shot is all relevant to the player statistics. Also, the direction and how hard and long you have to hold it for has increased from last year, and is also probably stat related more so in this regard. I dont really understand the relevance of applying the height after the direction, and I actually preferred how they were in PES 2010, even though the fundamentals remain the same. You still will be rewarded for gambling on the corners, and it does come with exactly the same risk.

I set up a 2 player game last night, then just kept fouling myself with the other pad so I could get a penalty to practice them. I couldnt find the dink shot, I tried L1 and Shoot, R1 and Shoot, and L2 and R2 with Shoot, but nothing. I tried pulling back and Shoot, but that just kept ballooning them over, although it did float a little, so maybe it's something to do with pulling back. I need more practice to work that out.

I have made a video, and you can see from where the ball goes, which corner I was actually aiming for. Like I mentioned, you have to hold the direction more now, hence the reason some of these penalties at the beginning of the video didnt find the top corners like they would have done in PES 2010. I managed to get there in the end though.

Ok, so if you taking you penalty at the left end of the stadium, and in pitch view as opposed to behind the player. Press Shoot to start the run up. As soon as you player starts to move hold down on the pad or the stick for a second or so to choose the left hand side of the goal, the more you hold it, then further to the left of the goal it will go. Hold it for too long, and you will hit the ball left of the left post. Once you have choosen your direction, you then need to push your pad/stick towards the direction your facing for the height, in this case it would be left on the pad/stick. You need to do this just before the player makes contact with the ball. This part is very sensitive, so if you want height, apply it just before he strikes the ball, it's just a tap. That will give you the height.

If your in behind the player view, same proceedure, only hold left or right on the stick/pad to choose direction. And push up on the stick or pad for the height.

In the video's I tried to test this new system to apply the height for the most part, although I did attempt to put a few in the bottom corners as well.

Thanks for the vid and the tips Jimmy. I've tried the dink shot as well, but I ballooned it over too by pulling the left stick back. Btw, have you tried pressing the left stick in one motion to get both direction and height? For example, if you want top left corner when you are facing the keeper, push the left stick diagonally up to the left? Would that work, or does it have to be two separate motions? It seems like it works for me, but not sure if it was just random.

Did anyone know where i can find videos of a hole demo game?

I struggle to build up my plays because my teammates seems to stand still most of the time and don't move into space enough. I would love to see some full demo games just to find out what i'm doing wrong. Maybe i rush it to much but i'm not sure. Got the feeling i play it already slow and patience.

Maybe some of you could record a full demo game? That would be a great help.

You need to go into gameplan and tinker. I experimented last night and even got my teaam to play far too offensively, I looked at the radar at one point and I had about 4 players pushed up ontop of the CPUs back four when I had the ball just past the halfway line, they must have made their runs when the CB played the ball out of defense. What I have noticed is that certain players will start their runs when the ball is played into a certain area of the pitch. You need to be very aware of what is going on around you or you will miss runs or if you hold onto the ball too long you will have missed your chance to play to the runner, then they will just stand around. I had this problem to at the start but now there is nearly always someone I can spot making a run. Also play balls infront of your players, they will chase it, create your own runners.
Also try holding select and pressing R1 or R2 to change your offensive or defensive levels on the fly, its level is indicated by a verticcal coloured bar in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Great advice.

i played the game for the first time against a mate at his place just now. im still learning the new passes, and still finding it hard to make the perfect thru ball til now.

here's the thing that ticked me off, he played without the manual passing, without any footballing brain at all, keeps sprinting at me using messi, or bulldozing anything with ibra. and i kept conceding from situation where they sprint to the corner, stopped, turned, and passes the ball, each and every goal.

that was while i was still make some error in the passing. the thing is i felt not rewarded at all, i tried to play using the footballing basics, repositioning my players to shooting/passing positions before doint it, but it all felt in vain.

i felt useless during those games, losing 2-0 most of the time, never won. not even once.

maybe its just me, but tell me how you deal with this situation? tell me the advantages of playing with manual passing, because up til now i havent felt it.

cheers

You sure you haven't been to the Vic lately daz ?

We play some really nice passing football now under Malky. And the kids at Harefield are all playing that way. Wait for the likes of Isaac, Warburton and a host of others to come through.

Buy the PC version from shopto.net. I purchased PES2010 from them last year for £19-99 and received it two days earlier than the Friday release date. :))

So been playing the Xbox 360 version rather than the PC version today and it feels like it plays a little better than it does on my PC (Not forgetting more game speed options), so I'm leaning towards buying the 360 version. BUT...

Think this has been mentioned, but not sure if there has been an answer, there seems to be a very odd stutter going on during the match, where it keeps pausing briefly then continues perfectly. Also, there seems to be some fps issues on the cut-scenes (like the goal celebrations). Are these issues exclusive to me, and if not are they likely to be fixed for the retail version?

If not I'll stick with the PC copy.

(Just watched the video all the way through, didn't realise they were actually advertising the Pumpkin heads etc. :D)

I have read that quite a few times now and on various forums. It only seems to be the Xbox 360 though, never heard this issue in relation to the PS3 or PC. Strange.

I have it on the PC-version of the demo, it's a brief stutter where the picture freezes for a second and then goes on like nothing happened, it happens about once or twice a match. It's not a gamebreaker though, just strange.

The dink penalty is achieved by pushing in the opposite direction to which the player is facing. Similar to adding height, its very sensitive, so don't push the stick until just before striking the ball. You can also dink it into the corners, ala Zidane, by pushing a direction first.

Shank, I'm pretty sure pushing diagonally doesnt add direction and height at the same time. System makes you choose direction first, then height. Can you get penalty shootouts now on your game? I really don't know how I unlocked it, and haven't seen anyone else mention that they have it on their game. Maybe I completed an achievement, like failing to beat Barca 15 games in a row :))
