PES 2011 Discussion thread

I know Jon Murphy tweeted about that he agreed that the advantage system needs to be worked on, but I don't know if they'll bother to patch it or just work on it for PES 2012. Hopefully a patch :PRAY:

Yep, if you play a slow measured game with a dose of intelligence you will almost certainly beat Barca everytime even on top player. I keep winning and drawing games, I haven't lost a match in over 15 matches playing as Bayern vs. Barca.

Hope so too, CPU can make the game feel a bit stop-start at times with their niggly fouls. I've seen a few nasty off the ball challenges which have gone unpunished too though.

Also found this to be true, first time I played as Bayern I set up the tactics so I'd play on the counter, but ended up having the majority of possession.

I'm starting to think this, that Top Player isnt as hard as PES 2010, in fact it definately isnt. I'm Copa exclusive, so I put it down to the fact, I'm not a bad PES player, and my opposition isnt great. I would love to be able to try Chivas v Barcelona for a good comparison. I have always found the AI to be tough to break down, but I would like to see more offence from them. I like to get my ass handed to me now and again on Top Player AI, just to pull me down a peg or two, it happened alot on PES 2010, I hope the retail version of PES 2011 batters me from time to time also.

did someone downloaded the we 2011 demo on the xbox360 ... is it same (gameplay wise) and the same stutter???

Yes but you are the legendary Cro who jimmy speaks so highly of. Us mere mortals are not that good.;)

Also about the advantage rule i have seen it played a couple of times but not enough when its clear it should be.(pc version)

Yeah it's rubbish - just like they wrecked the manual replay in PES4, destroying any advancements made with PES3's great replay function (they fixed it up in PES5 from memory).

Did you play PES 2010...? Welcome to Penalty hell. Fifa 11's penalties are also a bit whacky. I treat it like a handicap for the AI to get one back on me so it makes the game more even :-)

Konami, please bring back Penalties from anything before 2010.

Edit - I read that the PK's were going back to the behind the player view, but I'm not sure that will happen. I actually prefer the way it is now, so I'm not bothered. I find that if you miss, or the penalty is saved and comes back into play, then your already on the correct camera angle. I'm sure this is why it was implemented that way.

How the hell do you take pens??

I tap :square: as lightly as possible then move left stick a tiny bit left/right and it flies over the bar and wide everytime!

it's a mess. I'd recommend to only press it up or down, managed to get 2 penalties into the corners (both saved though :( ) while the rest went into the middle hm (saved, too)
I didn't score any so far, but at least they don't go wide if you don't press left. :D
 
Darth, I have the WE demo, the Jap text put me off as I struggled in the formation screens even though I should be able to do it blindfold by now.

Learn the penalty concept, it's fantastic, seriously. I read alot of people saying they hate them, but it's only because they dont understand them and cant do them. That has to be the only reason. Fully manual penalties that test your nerve, skill, decision making, and reward those gamble on the corners and successfully find them, and they are stat related ? Honestly, and this has to be the very last time I say this, but if ANYBODY can think of a better way of mimicing a penalty system than the one Konami devised in PES 2010, please tell me, I'm all ears.

Every single penalty system in every other PES prior to PES 2010 was absolutely pathetic, complete random bullshit.

Once learnt, you can put the ball at any height and any direction you like.

This gives you everything. Just remember that when your taking them from not behind the player, you substitute left or right aim, for up and down, it's as you look at it.

I agree with that. The new penalty system is pretty good once you get the hang of it. Trouble is Konami, in customary style, fail to properly explain how to take penalties.

For those struggling, remember:

it's the length of time you hold :square: that determines height

&

it's the length of time you hold the left stick left/right that controls direction.
 
Yeah can put them away ok but don't ask me to save one. PES 2010 PK system is great but it's that god awful Camera that doesn't make sense.

One thing about FIFA it's refreshing to throw the ball or pass to anywhere. For the life of me I can't understand why Konami would limit the game in their manner
 
Has anyone else tried playing 2 humans vs CPU games and had any trouble with switching players?

I keep running into the same problem where I'll pass to player 2 but JUST as player 2 receives the ball it auto swaps P2 for P1. so now I've passed to myself but haven't realised because it should have gone to P2... and now I'm hitting L1 and pressing button to find myself and end up giving the ball away.

It's even worse when you're running onto a through ball or chasing after a ball that's heading into your own goals. there isn't anything worse than seeing P1 running back to clear a ball off the line only for the game to suddenly swap P1 and P2 around and they walk it right into their own goals because none of us have realised.
 
Really struggling with the penalties also, to the point it feels like I'm being punished when I receive one :D

Only time I score is if the keeper dives left or right and I keep it in the middle.

It's not, I have had many penalties, and it's exactly the same as PES 2010. The only difference is they look so much smoother now when viewed from beind the taker. I had a few penalty shootouts on the MLO beta in the competitions by the way, and won them all. :)

Like Jamez said, firstly choose how much power/height you want by pressing Square. Once your player starts to move in his run-up to the ball, then hold either up or down ( for left or right in normal view) or left or right on behind the player view. Your height/power and direction is all based on how long you press either for. It takes practice, but once learnt, it's great.
