PES 2011 Discussion thread

I made a little video of some moments that made me smile yesterday.....

There are a couple of near-miss freekicks, a lovely R2 chest-control, some lovely clipped through balls, a cheeky finish, a 60-70 yard manual high pass (Kevano) ;) and some cheeky little tricks, of which the CPU clearly isnt impressed with :CONFUSE:

I love the reaction of the Chivas CPU defender after the goal he looks straight at the linesman and gestures for off-side, also one of the near miss attempts, my own team-mate throws his hands in the air in celebration thinking it's gone in. Class.

Top Player AI is one dirty, cynical SOB at times ....

cool

great video

enjoyed that

I think pes looks great, like a real football match. I also think it looks better than it plays i.e watching it back as it feels weird to me

i am hoping that is down to me not being used to the ps3 controller and from playing fifa for 3 years since pes6

Hmmm.. the slow run - ball control is very weird

More look like a glitch :OOOH:

Absolute cracker of a video Jimmy, the music is also very fitting.
Loved a goal after 51 seconds, what a great pass that was.

This looks much better than PES2008-2010.
Can't wait for the Xbox demo and the full game (i already ordered)...if i'm not mistaken, my alltime PES favourite Andres D'Allessandro plays for Nacional...

ai topplayer level continues to be easy no different from pes2010.

I somewhat agree, they're very clinical and you can't make any mistake but dominating games is relatively easy. Which wouldn't be a problem if you use Barcelona all the time but it shouldn't be happening when I'm playing them as Bayern.

a few things recorded here, the 1st goal is a crazy own goal then a few more highlights then how to take a penalty(i never miss!!) and a nice manual pass to wing for a cross and headed finish
Nice vid - at 2:52 I thought you put a clip in from a real game for a few seconds, the lighting is amazing .

That long diagonal cross field ball made me :)

The pitch looks nice and big I can see so many great potential attacking moves for this game as long as the player switching doesn't fuck me over. It reminds me so much of Football Kingdom - but with a solid structure

after two days of playing (and enjoying) these are the main cons that have occurred regularly enough for me to notice already

1.lack of runs off the ball
2.cpu through balls slowing down to allow them to get onto the end of the pass
3.automated kick offs
4.shit keepers

points 2 and 3 are not really effecting me but 1 and 4 are starting to upset me more as i play the demo, the keepers reactions are pathetic, especially to slower paced shots for some reason. point 1 i have highlighted already.

also i didnt realise how useful the right stick first touch flick was that is in fifa until now. to be able to knock the ball far ahead in pro you need to be sprinting, but in fifa i would use it to get out of tight spots.

About point 1:
Did you exerimenting with the strategy-settings? You might have a playing style that do not suit the default strategy. That's the great thing of PES; you can tweak the strategy to your own way of playing.
For instance, you should not complain about off the ball running if you press the dash-button all the time. Then it simpy not possible to keep track with your runner. I myself change pace all the time. That has two advantages:
1.You take the time to watch for space
2.You offer chances for other players to run in space.

If your strategy-settings are set right, off the ball running works fine :)

I won 6-0, but lack the first half consecutive time to 5 match. :))

Compared to fifa10 level top.
pes2011 like playing in the lower level.

I agree the Top Player AI could be harder but the comparison with FIFA doesn't work for me as winning games on Legendary is stupidly easy. You'll score loads of goals with quick one-two's and only concede from scripted crosses or free kicks. PES AI is by no means perfect but for me it's much better than FIFA 10's.

^ Good advice. And if you turn up the player support slider to max you will be soon wishing your players did not run so much forward. =P

Finally news for the Xbox users?
Jon Murphy on Twitter:
@J011YR0GER demo release for all platforms 15th. Sony was able to distribute a week early for plus users. PC users aren't being overlooked

its nothing to do with me holding down sprint, all these situations i am referring to are when i have the ball behind the player i want to run, or at most parallel but stationary. if i pass it across the pitch and it ends up with my left sided midfielder, i would expect my LB to push forward if there is space to do so down the line. again if i have it with my lb i would expect (not always btw) my LM to make a run forward. lastly i still feel that the forwards are not making the runs they should be, if i dont pass it when they make thier initial jog forward they stop. i played a cross field ball last night fro my RB to my ST, he jogged forward, turned sideways and shuffled for a bit and the decided to try get onto it again, there was no danger of him being offide at.

also i played the game on 2 player yesterday with my friend who i've been playing games with since snes, within a couple of mins he asked me, 'whats the button to make your player make a run off the ball' and also 'how do u flick it out of your feet, like in fifa'.

we both enjoyed it alot, there was the old banter, watching replays, pretending not to be upset when the other scored etc, but we both highlighted the same points that were missing, but i understand that this may all be down to the card system not being selectable, which is something i do not have any experience with.

What you describe is tweakable in the strategy-settings; just play the attack card ( they really are in! ) to attacking for that LB or do what Bendit said in his post above: Put up the support slider...

I think I can see where Lami is coming from with the -2. When playing Barça and Bayern, 0 did seem a bit faster than what I expected.

But playing with the Copa teams, -2 did feel like PES3, so it will boil down to each one's personal preference :)

I have to say that:

- I still can't get the tricks to work all the time, and I'm beginning to agree with Jimmy that the tricks are set to default (was it you who said that Jimmy?). I set the tricks to be set relative to the players direction, and the tricks are only the expected ones if I'm running towards the CPU's goal. If I'm running backwards, or I'm on the sideline, facing the penalty box (like I'm going to cross), the tricks sometimes don't really map correctly to the stick... Maybe it's just me, though.

Another thing: I'm absolutely loving the strategies depending on the time and the game situation.

I'm undecided as whether to purchase the Euro version or the UK one... Waiting one week seems like a LOT of time...

Paulo Tavares

Thanks to Tobi yesterday, I mananged to sort the feint-link system and map the tricks to the right stick. In order for these to work, you need to use the L1 button with the right stick. The R2 and right stick are feints that are linked to the player that cant be changed. Hence the reason, each player has different ones available.

I'm just using L1 and right stick now, and just using L2 for manual pass. :)

Edit - After playing pretty much exclusively with the Copa teams, when I tried Bayern v Barca with a friend, I also found it to be too fast to what I had become acustom to.
