Not to defend them, or the reviews, but did any of the beta testers use the d-pad to play?
I could imagine, still being the d-pad dinosaur that I am, that if pes doesn't have the option for assisted in the game (and relies solely on d-pad input to determine all the angles when not using the analog stick) that the new "freedom" only highlights how constrictive the d-pad is. Or put another way, if the passing is "true" then you won't be able to get the ball to the man as it will only travel in the d-pad directions as it won't have any "lock-on" to your teammate like in previous versions.
If that is the case it only highlights how poorly games are reviewed if the reviewers don't even take the time to check the controls.
I really hope we have the option to have "semi passing", as I just don't like using the analog for footie games.
