PES 2011 Discussion thread

Not to defend them, or the reviews, but did any of the beta testers use the d-pad to play?

I could imagine, still being the d-pad dinosaur that I am, that if pes doesn't have the option for assisted in the game (and relies solely on d-pad input to determine all the angles when not using the analog stick) that the new "freedom" only highlights how constrictive the d-pad is. Or put another way, if the passing is "true" then you won't be able to get the ball to the man as it will only travel in the d-pad directions as it won't have any "lock-on" to your teammate like in previous versions.

If that is the case it only highlights how poorly games are reviewed if the reviewers don't even take the time to check the controls.

I really hope we have the option to have "semi passing", as I just don't like using the analog for footie games.

The game needs an new engine based on what? I don't even know how you can make these claims when you haven't even played it.

Yeah that could be a good aspect of the crappy reviews. If they get the impression that they haven't done enough for the western market they will continue to put the effort in, unlike EA who seem to be trying to recoup the new engine investment of 07/08 by doing f#$k all for 10 and 11.

They have recycled the ISS64 engine as that had analog controls.

Very well said. I admit having played all previous pes versions with the d-pad. Maybe i'm oldschool (i'm old, thats for sure)but it worked for me.
If pes2011 requires the stick, i will switch to that. I'll probably suck at first but will get the hang of it.

However, in no way does that have anything to do with respect.

Thats the problem of this game, Its PS2 engine primarly made for 8 directions on PS2 controller, but its heavily modified to look like next gen.

I was always a D-pad dinosaur myself, until somewhat 2010 I tried to use the analogue stick. But I didn't feel very comfortable with it so I continued to use the D-pad most of the time.

Tried my luck with PES 2011 and it felt great, nothing awkward.

We can't be so sure this is the same engine used in 2008 or not mate. All we know is that Seabass himself confessed they've been using the same engine, or fundamentals, can't remember, from the ISS days! And for 2011 things must change. After playing the beta, I could see it. It played different to all previous PESs tbh, yet still maintained the PES ideology at its core.

Cut him some slack people, no need to get jumpy. A new engine isn't a bad idea at all. I'm all for it if it's the best for the game's improvement and future, and eventually us.

Why can't there be good player models with real clothes on like in ego-shooters? There are only 22+referees needed...every ego shooter engine can handle that :o

How do you know that this engine is bad? Because PES 2008/09 and 10 were poor games? Do you think that "engine" is the most important thing? Ok we are getting nowhere with this, lets say its few days till demo for some of us, for the rest its few hours, we will play and then we continou with this debate. I must say I wish so much to play great PES game again I am big fan buying every year this title but I am not blind fanboy.
I play demo and if i find out that u re right and I am wrong, I will admit it . Thats it.

Don't talk about engines unless you know what you're talking about. PhysX is for clothing physics and other gimmicks, nothing to do with gameplay or animations.

Try to be rational just for a moment and compare PES 2008 with PES2010/2011 instead.

And Seabass never said they were using engines from ISS64, but instead they kept doing things the same way (FAmicon style) since then, meaning they were coding a game in 2008 like they used to in 1998, and they never got used to new technologies.

Also, the number of directions in which a player can turn has nothing to do with engines either lol.
