PES 2011 Discussion thread

Darth, you said the game was too easy on regular. Does that include the CPU -AI when playing your players? If that's the case, it might cause problems on-line where it was too easy with PES 2010.

Maybe one of you can tell us how the CPU-AI was in the ML beta?

I won my first game 3-1 which was too easy and then after noticed it was on regular, others may have struggled more had they not played the beta, I only played that match on regular so cannot really say how much assistance I was given other than that I could just walk up to their box no problem.

On pro level it was much more challenging, teams seemed will to concede ground up to the halfway line then challenge you from there, they scored some good realistic goals against me too including one which was an excellent though pass, the striker collected the ball and used a feint to wrong foot the last defender and slide it home under the rushing goalie.

It's a pity you didnt play 1v1, human v human, to test the Top Player AI that way. I expect it to be extremely stubborn, I just want clarification. I guess I'll have that though Wednesday morning. :)

I really hope Regular AI isnt default for online. I suspect it will be though. I've only really ventured online since PES 2010, so can any of the old veteran online PES players tell me if it was always set to Regular AI for online play ? I have a sneaky feeling that it wasnt. The PEEL online leagues are Top Player anyway, so it isnt that much of an issue for me, but I would like to sample the MLO again, and I fear it will be only Regular AI. :(

I could run right upto them yesterday but it wasn't something I noticed in the beta to be honest, on the subject of throw ins which I totally forgot till you reminded me, a class touch was when the opponent AI (professional level) was a goal down they would go for the long throw into the box!

Excellent write-up mate. Added to news thread.

Darth you said your team mate that was close to the ball attacked it automatically, why is this bad for you? I mean we can only control one player at the time, so if you the player can't reach it, isn't it good that the AI actually plays realistic and helps you out instead of just standing there without doing anything?

That's what I love about PES, the fact that your AI team mates will help you out by jumping up for headers (especially in defense), it's realistic. I would never want PES to turn into FIFA where your team mates only position themselves (badly) so if you don't control the player that can head the ball away he will just stand there like he's not aware of what is going on.

Automatically tackling players is something I don't like, but everything to help you out like blocking shots, head the ball away or clear it on the goal line should absolutely be there in a game that is supposed to simulate the real thing imo.

Hard to explain but I just thought the cursor should have selected him as default intended target because when the ball isn't meant for the player in other areas of the pitch they can jump or duck away from the ball, I think if you were in a serious game chasing that equalizer it may well annoy you.

DarthKebab tell me did you like pes2010 ? and what is your score for pes2011?

It's a trick question watch out :P I hope you think PES 10 was an abortion of a game; not very encouraging when people openly state they liked PES 10 and love PES 11.

I think it's pretty good too. I was playing the other day with PSG and slid in a cross into the box with Sessegnon which i tried to attack with Erding by pressing B. He ever so slightly missed it with a sliding attempt but Hoarau was just behind him and automatically reacted to slide it in.

I'm pretty sure they only react when you intend to react with another player anyway. It's not like if you left the controller on the table they'd start doing their own things.

I did not like it no, as a game itself it played ok but for me the animations killed it, I had to buy the PS2 and Wii versions to try and get that fix, then ended up just playing PES5 and 6 on my PC again.

Also it helped that I loved NHL 10, NBA 2k10 and MLB The Show to pass away time.

Oh and I don't want to score it, it was just a preview from 4 hours play, in a couple of months we will see where we are with it. :)

Excellent answer. Funnily enough I wanted to tell you not love the pes2010. If only you tell me how your score for pes2011

I think the animations themself look better in PES. But fifa has so many different animations which is definetly a plus!

DarthKebab

I would like to know your opinion about animations. Pes 2011 animations is at the same level as FIFA?

For me they are better, they are realistic without being over the top, what you notice how the players interact with the ball, every touch seems accounted for, when shooting it just feels real for where they are on the pitch and what type of shot they are playing, you don't fully appreciate it unless seeing it in a replay, which is a shame as people who record videos at the games shows skip them!

DarthKebab,

What is your job, what are you affiliated with...? What PES-game did you like previously? What do you think of PES 2010, and what about Fifa 08, 09, WC.. and Fifa 11? Sorry to ask but it's better to know a bit the reviewer's origins and opinion about other games to put this into context.

Of course I have some questions regarding the game itself:

Do the offense-players make their runs without shying away from the last defenseline?

Did you sense some cheating by the AI for example intentionally making control worse or making switching to the right player in certain situations intentionally difficult... in order to help the AI suceed in making a goal?

Do the referrees grant advantage?

Are the goalkeepers more humanlike, ie. do they react even in chaotic situations with urgency to prevent the ball from feeling the net?

These above were imho the glaring problems of PES 2010 besides the problems with animation and reaction-times, so would like to know if they were finally fixed.

Compared to PES 5/Winning Eleven 9, do you think PES 2011 is the better game?

Compared to Fifa 09/10/WC and if you had the opportunity to play Fifa 11, do you think PES 2011 is gameplay-wise better?

Thanks for the effort, much appreciated.

Mate, some of these questions were already answered in here.

I would appreciate it if people read through posts before asking questions to check if they're questions were already answered.

On penalties it hits their legs but I wouldnt say they motion towards it, same on shots, I think the answer is a no in general though, they were good enough with their hands!

Oh and about penalties, I know they're the same as last year, but camera angle in penalties during matches was supposed to have changed, is this the case? Also, how do keepers react to penalties shot to the middle? In the beta they sometimes stood still, the ball went between their legs, etc...

I was made redundant recently so out of work, my favourite PES game is either PES5 or WE9:LE, I hated PES2008 so bought FIFA 08 which I liked as it was slow paced and challenging, lacking in responsiveness, I like FIFA 09 for quite a few months but gre bored, FIFA 10 initially I liked but 2 months later I learned how you were able to exploit the defence and the Manager Mode was a broken buggy mess, World Cup I initially loved but after two weeks I found the exploits and it became soulless, I am honestly not interested in FIFA 11 now, I would have tried it if PES was the not good again though.

Sometimes they can remain static when you expect them to make a run but I found if you pass out in front of them they respond instantly to latch onto the ball

I know what you mean and I am sure it will exist in the game to a certain extent but I never witnessed it, maybe Top Player the AI will go into god mode but not on professional.

Do the referrees grant advantage?

I never seen that.

Are the goalkeepers more humanlike, ie. do they react even in chaotic situations with urgency to prevent the ball from feeling the net?

I was hammering a team and the keeper saved, was straight back on his feet and saved again, like I said, Joe Hart vs Spurs at White Hart Lane a few weeks back.

Compared to PES 5/Winning Eleven 9, do you think PES 2011 is the better game?

It has the potential to be, we will see in a few months if people are still happy with it, those games have proved how great they are even after all these years.
Compared to Fifa 09/10/WC and if you had the opportunity to play Fifa 11, do you think PES 2011 is gameplay-wise better?

Technically FIFA looks great on videos, it really looks amazing, when playing though I feel disconnected and bored, when I score I am just not bothered, when I score on PES I react differently.

Thanks for the effort, much appreciated.

No probs

Ah forgot to ask, how often do rebound goals happen? Do keepers parry better now?

It seemed to either stay in their hands or be sent for a corner. I did not get any cheap goals I can recall.

Mikel Arteta hammered a beautiful free kick past one though, his dive was amazing but he had no chance.

Never got a penalty in game, only after a draw in the Copa Lib. I hit one down the middle and he saved, managed to score two and miss two aiming for the corners.

Thanks for answering, sounds good and fair. But what about the advantage-rule regarding the referrees... you said you never saw that... Does that mean the referrees don't let games run on when advantage is there, never?

Now that would be even worse than in PES 2010, where at least sometimes advantage is being let played, eventhough it was rare.

I just can't remember it happening thats all, I know it happened in previous games, usually had the play on icon pop up in the corner on older games but I don't remember if it happened or not, if it did then I probably wouldn't have made a note because it is just what was in the game before, I dont even think I properly slide tackled someone at all to be honest as well, I was focusing on the new defensive system and see if I could write up a fair reflection on what that was like. Most of the fould I gave away was usually when I was the last defender tracking a player and sticking a foot out or as a full back defending against a cross.

Ah, ok, I see, the demo will have to show if advantage-rule is in or not, I actually liked the yellow-sign of PES 5, but I know we will never see that again.

You described how you fouled when you were the last defender tracking a player... did it result in straight red card? In real life football being the last defender fouling results at least in a yellow card but can also mean straight red card, what was it like in the game?
