PES 2011 Discussion thread

The whole trick thing is just another example of Konamis inclusive bubble.
Had they payed attention to other games they would have known the problems other games have had with trick systems that were too easy to pull off and the years and effort its taken to fix them. this will destroy online play if not fixed.
Also the fact we still cant change clubs in master league which should have been in the game 10 years ago like every other career/manger mode.

YouTube - PES 2011 versus FIFA 11

Its funny to use this as conformation about trying Fifa. Watching the whole vid its obvious which game the player is having more fun with.Peep his reaction at 2:26 and 7:08 to 7:14, those are some sublime looking dribbling animations.

I like Fifa to a certain extent, Pes just gives off that feeling of fun that all video games should try to achieve.

i fully agree. just look at the difference in shooting and crosspassing on backline: FIFA still has that 'on rail thing'.

Watching that video make you realise how realistic PES seems to be this year. Even though the animations are a little bit choppy, the movement is just so much more realistic than FIFA. In FIFA the players defy the law of physics and just kind of slides around on the pitch with 10 touches of the ball per second, doesn't look like they are actually on the pitch, more like hovering it.

PES just seems to play out much more like real life football. I see some things in there that I don't like, but I can still see myself play more PES than FIFA this year. Judging how PES 2011 looks and the direction they are taking, I think PES 2012 will be amazing.

Amen Gab, that is exactly what I see.

The pitch doesnt feel like it has any depth, and my biggest criticism about Fifa for me personally is the lack of angles when moving with possession of the ball, and from that video, nothing has changed. That choppy comment is true, but you really do need that when dribbling with the ball to create the angles to drop a shoulder and come inside, or give your posture angles to create the pass. It looks like the ball is glued to the foot, and I have always hated that personally. The ai movement off the ball looks very rigid as well, all very predetermined without any level of realism or intelligence. Just my 2 cents, but those issues have always been my own personal gripes. The running animations look wrong, and the models look very cartoony. The ball looks floaty, and it must be on assisted because the passes are straight to the feet, and there is absolutely no evidence at all of a first touch. Every player takes the ball perfectly. The weight of the passes looks identical for every pass. There is no focus by the look of it on preferred feet. The shooting looks alot better in this Fifa though than it has in previous versions. The level of realism between the two looks like night and day to me. I'm not trying to be a flamer here, I'm merely stating what I see.

Also, 360 degrees movement across the board is something I dont want to see in any PES game, 360 degree passing capabilities yes, movement,no. The reason for this is that in order to get a feeling for the player your controlling, 360 degree movement in every player doesnt give a real indication of body balance, agility, dribbling accuracy, dribbling speed etc. Only players like Messi, Ronaldo et all should have this freedom in PES. I think PES 2011 still needs more passing angles, or the ability to have 360 passing with every player, with the passing stats dictating the accuracy, but the ability needs to be there, and it still isnt for me.

Even when I switched to FIFA 09 and was initially impressed with the animations, the game has always felt a bit lightweight and doesn't quite have the solidity of PES, if you know what I mean. Cartoon like movement with players that look like stick figures, and balloon like ball physics have always been apparent, even when playing on fully manual, and it still looks that way.

PES looks much better imitating football match.
Fifa looks a bit funny. They run like they don't care, they pass like they don't care, they shoot like they don't care. They look like a bunch of stoned cartoon characters who decided to play football because they had nothing better to do. They just smoke some weed, play for fun and don't care :D Sorry, but this Fifa looks nothing like a football match. Maybe it's fun, but it's not football.

I don't know, both games look pretty good to me. Last year Fifa had many neat little touches which I liked. Not to mention a presentable advantage rule. I will buy PES in a month but I have little doubt both games will be quite good.

On the subject of 360 player movement. I was playing the Beta against Lami and commented that Gilardinho was turning like a bus and in less directions than Pienaar. To which he replied that Gilardinho is probably shit. Lol but it's true in the beta he is a good finisher, with a boot and a god header. But when he has a defender in front of him or his back to goal he is as Lami put it....shit. This of course is one of those things you look at and say ask yourself how will you
be approaching the game. Do you look for a target man that can take long balls and crosses or do you opt for the Luis Fabaino type that can twist, turn and jink past defenders. No not Cronaldo, Messi and Kaka....noobs

There is so much depth to PES2011 it's amazing how much Seabass and co have put in. They do make major ballsups like rainbow flicks and other stupid things but what they do right, they do brilliantly.

Lons welcome back my friend :D I'm so happy that PES is finally back after 3 years of shame. I'm really suprised coz i didnt count on it. I lost my faith i havent even looked at trailers. Now, I cant wait for the demo. Konami have to pay us back this year and give as pure pes gameplay that everobdy have been waiting for 3 years! I've tested beta, watched movies and i really see it will hapen this year in pes 2011.

Just on the vids we have seen I prefer PES off the bat, I prefer the camera and the pitches, FIFA still looks tight, they need a larger pitch...

Bearing in mind what you love about Fifa, the MM, I think you will be engrossed in the offline ML of PES, especially in Co-op. Regardless of it's faults, ML is incredibly solid, and the ability to have a plethora of individual players at your disposal is something I could never understand about the appeal of Fifa's MM. All the players seem very much the same. There never was any real benefit of buying a player, it just felt like a name. Fair enough PES doesnt have 4 leagues, but patched up, bringing a small team from the Coca Cola Championship, up to the Premiership, into the Europa and then the Champions League is enough for me. Utilising your Scout System, Youth Team, training your youngsters up in their stats over their career is as good as it gets. In my opinion.

It took me 2 seasons to get out of the Coca Cola Championship with Boro, I had to try and buy 'no-name' players and work on my Youth Team, of which I pumped alot of my resources into my Youth Academy. When I did gain promotion, I never once got higher than 5th place in the Premier League on Top Player in 6 seasons. My strength in depth of my squad couldnt cope. Also, if you do try it in Co-op, Professional level is like Top Player, you dont need to go any higher.

Messi looks like he has 720 degrees movement. :CONFUSE:

Hello,:BOP:

I do not see any evidence of player stats affecting play in FIFA, I know its Juve & Chelsea so the players are quality but there are some ridiculous passes going on in that video. Little Diego managing to out muscle Terry when they are going shoulder to shoulder and then putting in a pin point cross with his left foot, nothign has changed.

My gripe with Fifa isn't the passing really, it's what Gab mentioned, the players are more gliding than anything, then when receiving passes it's always perfect trapping and turning. Don't mind Fifa at all, but they got to fix that imo.

Any news on the PES demo?

I'm guessing this Thursday. From what Jon said, I think it possibly should have been last Thursday, but he remarked,"Sorry for the delay, we just wanting to get the MLO Beta out of the way first."

Also, last years demo hit 59 days before the retail version launched. So we are well over that time-scale. My money is on Thursday morning, I will be devastated if it isnt. Our weekly PES offline Lads Night is Thursday, so the timing would be perfect. :)

I cant wait to check out this new defensive system missing from the Beta, it's a massive part of the game we are yet to sample.

There's no point me jumping into the PES vs FIFA debate before i get flamed by others (not naming anyone but you know who your are).

Basically my views are pretty similar to Jimmys but despite it not looking like it's going to be a sim, i think FIFA could be enjoyable this year unlike it was last year!

So the demo is out on either the 2nd, 9th or 16? I'd say probably next Thursday but i have a small hope i could be released this week! Seems about right!

Same here, it's just a general feeling of floatiness in the ball physics and weightlessness of the players that I don't like. It's hard to understand why as they are both just pixels on the screen, but PES feels solid and weighty. I feel like I'm actually in control of the footballer and the ball.

Plus when I play Fifa I really don't get a feeling of emotional involvement in what's happening on the pitch, nor does it make me care about my team and players. PES is still great for capturing the football feeling, and the excitement and ebb and flow of a real match.

I don't see anything in the videos so far that makes me feel this year will be any different.

Animations ==================== FIFA 11
Tactics ======================= PES 2011

I agree. Presentation-wise though (camera angles, cut scences) , PES2011 just takes the cake. EA have been caught sleeping in this aspect and are now trying to play catch-up (new player scanning tech etc).

the vid may be slightly unfair as the personality+ aspect takes some getting used to (knowing what to do and when with each player). From playing FIFA11 myself I could hold the ball up with Busquetes but not with Iniesta but Iniesta could escape from tight situations witht ball at his feet many times. This was all happening towards the end of a day's play. Also Camera angle-wise who knows what setting the FIFA one was on, nobody tends to touch it.

But overall PES2011 will be a great addition to playtime this year, I can tell already. As will FIFA11.

BTW you guys are being kind of obtuse regarding angles you can attack in FIFA11 (pu not intended). I play on "semi" and in the playtest I was taken aback at how you could just roll balls into space and have a genuine run onto it or a tussle for space etc. Anyway, both demos will be out soon so you can see for yourselves.
