PES 2011 Discussion thread

For those you have/played the beta, Whats the crowd noise and atmosphere like?

Do they react realistically when players are through on goal, shots hit the post, bad fouls etc.

Also, whats the away crowd like when the away team scores?

They react well, but there are no chants on this beta we can judge tbh. I've noticed crowd reacts to tricks for example, when you do a rainbow flick they go like "wow".

Does this really matter? Certainly does not matter to me because it does not affect gameplay.

but football lovers like us all the details.
and more when it costs nothing to them.

konami easy details that does not do:

- Net Goals
- Wet T-Shirts
- Improved rain
- Breathing in cold days (this is removed)
- Bandages on injuries (this is removed)
- Whistle hand (this is removed)

and of course after this the most important thing is the gameplay

Yeah the keepers are really bad. Sort of ruins the whole experience for me as the diving animations take all the joy away from scoring. The actual animations bug me more than the mistakes they make.

The main problem stems from the ball & nets imo. If you look when you're playing, the ball is slightly too small. The nets also look slightly too big for the keeper. In reality, they probably aren't, and it's more to do with the depth of the net (or lack of) that actually makes them look so high and wide. So small ball, big nets, keeper with poor animations/poor AI generally means scoring won't be very satisfying.

The keepers just don't command the nets like a proper keeper does. It's like sticking one of your mates in net, and he doesn't really play football, let alone know how to be a good keeper.

The keeper animations on pes6 were pretty good, and the nets were box like, and the ball seems bigger to me.

Do me a favour please, take a good look at fifa10 were the goal frame and net isnt proportionate to the size of the pitch or the players, and the ball is deliberatly oversized because of the default camera view and angle.

I dont know why you guys make such a fuss about keepers its almost like a obsession. Its all about game balance, with fifa being a example of were there intentionally superhumanised otherwise most games would turn into a goal fest with cricket score lines.Ive played alot of fifa this year and the keepers make daft mistakes and blunders much like pes,its just not highlighted as much as it is in pes.

This is a BETA,and i stress beta which is probably as old as the month of june and i bet my bottom dollar(im not american)the version sitting in the laps of the game journos out there currently is on a completely different plain.

Your talking about a collective group of developers that have experience that pans 20 years of making football games,do you not think even pes productions can see the bugs, flaws and how the keepers are prone to not picking up the ocassional loose ball or flapping behind the sticks because they can.

Ive played a lot of pes2010 and blue samuri and i really get the impression a lot of the points directed towards goal keeping are quite hysterical. There much better then pes6 were they never came off there line and were the defence was like a teabag and clumbersome so the keeper ai was deliberatly notched up.

If it isnt tricks its goalkeepers,am im pretty sure once everyone gets some time with the covering and tracking defensive system those trick whores will be either bundled off the ball or dispensed with a well timed crunching slide tackle.

Weve all been burned a bit over the last three years but lets not start throwing the water out of the bath because the babys crying,im sure pes2011 in its finished state will be fine.

Some of you really make me laugh,if actually you understood how difficult and hard it is to make a video game and how much work goes into games like pes and fifa and how hard it is to simulate the sport but also adhere to the fact thats its a game and has to have good gameplay you would be a little bit more open minded.

Pes6 was good but it had issues, its funny how rose tinted nostalgia and the fact that playing the game for long periods(years)starts to make the mind paper over the cracks because you have a comfort zone with the game and the brain knows the right patterns and how to avoid the problematic areas.

Ive been very critical of pes over the course of the last three years and ive also played alot of fifa this gen but that hasnt stopped me from realising theres still a genius in pes(even in this generation of consoles)that fifa will always lack however good the animation, goal keepers and control mechanics become.

Pes6 is a world away from the football games of today, its been superseeded.

I couldnt give a rats arse about goal net depth, the size of the ball,or what shape the nets are,i just want a solid balanced game with great gameplay to boot, that looks reasonably fluid and requires skill to play and were you have to use your brain to actually score and defend, with clever off the ball ai,free control mechanics with a little bit of that pes productions alchemy thrown in,and for me pes2011 fits the bill.

Lets not forget fifa has awful free-kicks,some of the worst replays ive ever seen in a game(that clip and are choppy at best),is only good on the xbox360 because the ps3 version is vastly inferior and the pc versions null and void, the in-ability to save replays,a horrible heading system thats almost non existent,to many cut scenes,a menu interface thats like reading a jjr tolkien novel, planet no gravity physics with players that skate and bounce around the pitch.

i agree

the goal nets are ridiculous, looks so artificial when the ball hits

Please tell me that they have improved the goal keepers bugs otherwise the game will not be worth buying. I would still play 2010 as there are some great patches made for it(PATe Arminia) but the goal keepers spoil the game for me.I hope that konami realise it don't matter how good the graphics are or the added player touches are if the goal keepers don't dive or react bad it spoils everything else.

Yeah FIFA has wet shirts since 09 but on thier kits it looks horrific, the Cold breath was a nice touch but you don't notice these as much.

Goal nets certainly bother me and what the heck is a "Whistle hand"
?

Keepers are greately improved but there are still some niggles in this beta code. Their supposed to be much better in latest code. It's one of those things we'll be able to fully judge with the demo only.

Thanks for the reply mate fingers crossed.:))

Honestly, now I have bought Amelia for my team, I just have to see a howler since he has been consistent in about 10+ matches.

Expander, GREAT POST, I agree with every single word!

I dont give a shit about nets and stuff when the gameplay needs to be fixed. After that we can talk about Seabass's underwear if you want :P

I agree these tiny details add to the overall experience. Still we need them to get the gameplay all right first, then add all that fluff later :)

Lami, is anyone else gna go to more playtests or able to ask questions to Konami before the game's release?

I have to know whether it's still possible to play as the CPU team offline in ANY cup/league mode. If not, honestly, it's a game-killer for me, i'd just get Fifa. and I would have to start following Fifa. and this comes from someone who has never played Fifa since 2001.

but me and my mates play custom cups so much it's impossible to ask us to draw brackets on a piece of paper to group a custom cup.

thing is, on various forums since Oct 09, people have so far been "feed-backing" to Konami regarding this. so can anyone actually get a concrete answer?

I think Jon Murphy has been asked that and said it's not in this year :(

typical Konami. taking out stuffs that people wanted. really unfortunate. i've been watching their videos and I seriously think this is the year they have finally came close to beating PES 5/6. it's just a game-breaker for me and my mates. too big, one of.

Im with you on this, these kids who moan all day long have no idea how hard it is to make a sports (with many players on each team) game. It's probably got the most difficult AI of any genre, the toughest character control and animation system needed and probably a ton of other things that no genre such as an fps, platformer etc can compare too!!

and to think we will be able to do those 4 rainbows with 1 button press with the trick link combo setting:COAT:

It doesnt quite work like that goalgerd, you can only assign one trick to the link combo at a time, not, four of the same tricks plus its four separate pushes in four different directions on the right stick or you would have to go through all the tricks to do the first, and you have to have space and time. You dont just press the direction once and the player does four tricks automatically in tandem. Its a great concept designed so the user can customise the trick system to his own personal requirements and taste.

Your making quite a big deal of this when its clear this system does have a context within the game and that most people will use it how its designed to be used.Youve had your five minutes of fame on youtube and do you not think konami have a team of testers to pick these things up.

The MLO beta is to test the online stability and see how different internet connections work and there various speeds.

With all due respect your making a mockery of what the MLO beta is intended to test,if konami wanted to publicly beta test the gameplay they would have done.Alot of people who didnt get choosen would have used there time more wisely not spread hysteria across the community with cheap exploits that betas always throw up.

You could do a rainbow flick with any player in ISS on the n64 and one after the other, but the novelty soon wore off and a good player would put your player on his arse with a shoulder barge or a well timed tackle.Just because your getting away with it in the beta doesnt mean you will in the final game.

^dude, goalgerd didn't do anything bad.. he showed the exploit and thats what matters. At least some people were informed. Its pretty stupid even at the beta stage to allow that error .. so its important for people show these exploits. Theres no such thing as making a "mockery" of a beta test .. if they're giving to you for free then Konami want to see it broken.
Now lets go ahead and see what they will do about this..

Its a gamebreaker because you cannot be a CPU? thats daft and stupid feature to have.

wake up your idea mate. my mates and myself have been playing pes for years and basically the only thing we do when we get-together in pes is to start a cup and league and then when we have matches against the CPU, the rest select the CPU against you individually.

before you call it stupid, wake up your idea. it's a gamebreaker for me personally, because, thats what we play the most. played.

This thread seems to be getting petty now!

Probably because of lack of videos!

There's not much new really. You guys seen the Bayern screens? And what about the J.Murphy interview where he announces 4vs4 online? (It's on PES fan somewhere).

And here he says:
Jon Murphy: The differences between the [current] preview build and the version I got this week on Monday are quite extreme actually, they've done a lot of work since the previous version. And it answers a lot of the questions that fans have had - the code I have now demonstrates that.

Oh and Adam said he's getting review/final code VERY SOON and that the demo release date is going to be announced in a BIG way, soon too.

I hope now with the utmost attention to the license of CONMEBOL, Konami will distribute better the attributes of the players from South American clubs! SC INTERNACIONAL players with the same level of Groningen,Unirea, etc, for instance, is ridiculous.:P
