They're trying to hide things by making content look superficial and artificially pretty with their AI Slop. The footage looks like was made directly by some clean and generic random AI generated videos or images... At the same time, companies are cranking up prices for the RAM and the GPUs like is some cyberwar ongoing...
 
Personally I thought it looks great, even ignoring the facial changes the overall lighting and shadow improvements are stunning. Maybe Nvidia should show how it might improve the landscapes and things like that in games.
 
@bsmaff Hey quick support question. My motherboard is pissing me off and I am thinking about swapping out for another one. I understand its basically building the computer again because I need to reconnect everything. But 2 questions:
- If its a motherboard swap there is no need to apply thermal paste anywhere, correct?
- Once it boots up again, do I need to do anything with Windows, drivers?

1) You would need to reapply thermal paste to the CPU again, that is only place.
2) If you swap motherboard for same chipset then drivers won't need changing but you should update drivers every few months anyway.

Sony have already stated that current RAM pricing means the PS6 is going to be massively delayed.
32GB of RAM has gone from £90 to £400 in 6 months.

I believe I read that that those high prices would take years to stabilize even if all goes well. I would think that even if they delay, they already had components ordered and ready (again this is just me thinking out loud I have no clue what goes internally), so could it be they release a console with slightly outdated components to make it more affordable? Guessing Xbox is on the same boat, gaming is just becoming unnafordable.
Who the hell is gonna buy a 1000$ console?

Overall: wild times for sure. I’m good with my old AM4 system atm and happy I don’t “have” to invest.
 
I have already signed-in to join the list for a 2TB Steam Machine + Controller. From a PC hardware perspective is expensive indeed, but besides playing on my PC, I also want a more common ground regarding a console experience for those reasons:

- I already purchased from Valve a 1TB Steam Deck OLED and after two years I enjoyed it a lot, I have especially the best experience with indies and emulation!
- I have more than 1K games on Steam and I want to use Steam Machine to use it for the entire library and play less demanding "medium" last gen titles on couch that I didn't touched so far, and eventually with my new last year's PC never will (franchises like Far Cry, Crysis, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and so on...)
- Making completely use of Steam OS on it for plug and play for a quick play session after work, but also to tweak and learn more Linux on desktop mode.
- now regarding emulation, this is a big rabbit hole that Steam OS offers it fully via EmuDeck, as besides classic retro consoles I want to experience more demanding games for PS3 or PS4 emulation that day by day is better ( GOW III, Bloodborne...).
- Like SteamDeck itself, this cube could fit in luggage if I can make use of a screen on trips or vacations.
- Steam controller is a must, so buying the bundle can get the controller for a lesser price (69€).
- from my experience alone (21 years of Steam), Valve offers the best support in purchases, gaming and updates...

If a casual gamer needs a "next gen" PC or console, this isn't the product and is not the best or viable option (even though all hardware is rising in price continuously). That said, If I consider my position regarding this purchase, I'm sure I'll benefit from SM fully and I'll give my PC some rest from time to time... :TU:

RAM pricing is unlikely to stabalise anytime soon.
The pricing is going up all the time.

If Sony wanted to build 5M PS6's now they would obviously be paying today's pricing.
But that is going to be stupidly expensive and any PS6 would cost about £1000 right now at least and there wouldn't be very little performance improvement.

As things stand AI is completely destroying the consumer market.
The only way I see gaming going is everyone owning say a £150 Nvidia Shield type device and then you pay a streaming subscription to companies.
I know in the past all these have failed and no one is interested but going forward it is either this or paying £1200 for a PS6, with the same performance as a PC 5070.

Yeah, but the PS5 pro is def a niche console. not something you want to grow your user base with

@etb10dmk I dont know much about the steam deck or steam OS. but for example the Steam Machine with SteamOS, is it vastly different than launching Steam big picture on your computer? My question is mostly what is the difference between the Steam Machine vs the PC you have now (for example installing a Linux distro and putting steam on it)? is it mostly the couch experience? Also, can you play games from the Xbox/EA/Epic store? Or just steam.

Yes, those are totally different. SteamOS is a gaming focused operating system that uses Linux, while Big Picture mode is the Steam app but amplified in a full screen interface. SteamOS is way cleaner, faster to navigate, you can install a plethora of plugins in a press of a button that you can also benefit from them (graphics, interface, music, performance, configs...), and besides the regular updates that Valve are releasing for it, the community grows every day bigger and stronger. Of course, there are some compatibility issues with some games because of the Linux envirnoment, but in general those are getting fixed via official updates and ProtonGE (as a community branch that makes new titles to work better on the Linux enviroment). Right now I can say that I'm ok just with my PC because is a trully "next gen" PC.... BUT, the difference is that on my PC I use Windows playing demanding titles, while Steam Machine will be used more as a secondary option, to just plug and play my games like on a console to play less demanding steam titles and lots of emulation (as you mentioned, more for a couch experience). As a plus, I'm also very interested in Steam Frame (VR) to experience it, coz' in my living room I have a lot of space for a small Steam "console" setup...

Regarding installing games from other platforms or merge games from those platforms in a single place, of course you can do that and way more. With "Heroic" flatpack you can add all the platforms that you want and customize your experience. There is a lot of stuff and positive news about SteamOS in general:
