Next Gen Consoles

Yeah don't buy an Xbox one sheep you can't trust Microsoft
Who can we trust SONY perhaps the company who thought there sheep would pay over $600 dollars for a PS3 because there name was on it.
Guess that leaves Nintendo then ;)

D'oh!

Europe is Sony country so I suppose the impact of this delay might not be too damaging.

Probably, but it could be quite a blow as anyone looking at the xbox now doesn't have a choice if they want their gaming fix early. That's if the ps4 is actually available to those who don't pre-order.

That's all good and true, every company wants your money.

But clearly one has been heading in the right direction, making the right decisions and saying the right things to the Gamers.

I'd rather trust the company that's seeking redemption than the one that was full of itself for "winning" last gen.

If you have not pre-ordered your machine by now, I really don't think you will be getting one on launch.

The place I pre-ordered mine are no longer taking pre-orders as they can no longer guarantee stock and that's Toys R Us.

You do know that Sony were the first to patent a device that locks games to the first system they are played on right after the PS3 came out (google it) and had all the same Drm and online stuff ready to go as requested by the game producers but saw a chance and took it to screw over Microsoft at E3 and then say it's upto the producers to choose wether they use drm or not to pressure them into looking like asses along with Microsoft.

I was looking forward to the online sales equivelant to steam on our consoles that digital downloads woukd eventually force and the possibilities of online connectivity and Sharing etc that ppl were scared of Partly because Microsoft didn't explain the positives well enough and just assumed ppl would accept it but it screwed Sony over because there just now giving cross game chat to there gamrs and have no idea and are years behind with online gaming and services

As long as digital purchase costs the same as disc based retail games or even more expensive, i will not going to buy digital. The only advantage from my point of view is having the games on HDD and no need for swapping discs.
But you have no box, no manual, no extras, no possibility of selling etc.
I know digital distribution is wanted by publishers etc., but therefore they need to offer good prices.

“Xbox One games are not region locked”, Microsoft clarifies import stance
Xbox One’s delay in eight territories may have come as a blow to those affected, but Microsoft has since re-iterated its stance on region-locking and importing in a series of statements. A batch of documents supposedly leaked from the company also appears to detail Microsoft’s policy in full.

Following confirmation of the delay a Microsoft rep wrote in a statement to Eurogamer, “When the console launches this November, we will support Xbox One in 13 markets. Xbox One may be used in all countries, including the non-launched markets. In addition, Xbox One games are not region locked. Any Xbox One game purchased at retail can be used in any country on any Xbox One.

“That said, there needs to be a valid payment method corresponding to a supported launch country in order for any transactions to occur over Xbox Live, and some content may not be accessible outside launch markets due to geographic content restrictions imposed by content right holders.”

Responding to gamers on NeoGAF, Microsoft’s Albert Penello clarified a few points about Xbox One importing. He stressed that all Xbox One games are ‘world-wide signed’ (region-free), and that he console will work anywhere, but cautioned gamers to bear in mind power supplies in different territories.

He added of payment details by country, “You can use one of the 13 digital marketplaces corresponding to our launch markets, assuming you have a valid payment instrument for those countries. Lots of people in Europe specifically travel, move, and visit family.

“Now, of course, if you were using Pre-Paid cards … You will still find that music and video content can be geo-restricted based on licensing. (e.g. Netflix works only in supported countries)”

It comes as this NeoGAF member posted a document supposedly leaked from Microsoft that breaks down – in detail – the company’s policy on importing and region issues.

Treat these as rumour for now:

Sad but true, which is why online games will continue to cost £60 or more. Even the high street shops will capitalise on the new hardware too for a good while, I think for a long time it'll be back to the days of the SNES where people charged £60 a pop.

I'll see how it goes but game pricing is making PC gaming seem more like an option for me.

The solution is very simple: allow retailers to sell digital copies of the game as well, so the digital economy isn't monopolised by the hardware manufacturers.

Some more PR bullshit from an interview with a danish Microsoft PR guy (Jesper Green Frost) with the danish gaming magazine Gameplay.

(Google Translate)

It was not the happiest news that some days ago hit Danish game fans. The news that Microsoft's Xbox One in Denmark will be delayed until 2014 was certainly unexpected and now means that we do not get to experience the battle for next-generation console market on your own body, until next year.

There have been many theories as to why Xbox One console has been delayed. Some say that it is because there are problems with the chips to the console. The extra cache memory that Microsoft has put on their combined GPU / CPU causes problems and leads to too many errors in the finished chips.

But this explanation Jesper Green Frost from Microsoft rejects flatly. "It is not," is the clear answer to the question of whether it is hardware problems caused the delay. "It is because of location, compliance and testing," he maintains against Gameplay. "It has nothing to do with the production or hardware failing to do."

"That it's all about for us, it is to launch a product that is tested and works 100% in Denmark and has some amazing features in Denmark. This is what it's about far more than getting something semifinished out to compete with Sony on day one or exploit the period that lies just around Christmas. So there we attach importance to all consumers experience higher than money, despite the fact that we are all are a great American company. "

Frost tells how the changes do not just have necessitated changes in the console itself, but also has led to that they have had to change in many of the games for Xbox One. "You have to go in, and just make a parallel version. Many codes had to be rewritten because the game should be a great game offline, but the also been a super great game for those people who constantly is online [...] so it's quite a few lines of code, you must look through and change. "

Frost further explains how the code to be corrected, nor is the same for all countries in the world. "The local legal requirements surrounding such thing as Marketplace and online payment, etc. is very, very different from country to country. Therefore we have chosen to say, ok, we focus on a handful of countries to start with because there simply is not the manpower and hours a day enough to launch a tested and great consumer console in all countries. "

Despite the delay, Frost still thinks that Xbox One is worth the wait. It would probably also be strange if a Microsoft employee would not back up on its own console. But he believes that there are good reasons to wait for the new Xbox.

"I think that it's quite clear that you should wait, because the Xbox is the only real eight-generation console. The PlayStation 4 is, and I'm sad to say but this is how it looks to me, only a more powerful PlayStation 3. On the other hand I think the Xbox One is a paradigm shift in the console world: A whole entertainment system."

The last sentence is pure gold, similar to Sony in 2005/06 with their "Next-gen only starts when we say so..."

Some bits of info from CBOAT, a reputed insider @NeoGaf:

No Live Stream at Gamescom for "real reasons." Xbox 1 architecture not fully complete. Latest version of SDK from a couple of weeks ago dropped performance by 15-20% across the board. He says this thing happens all the time as a part of console develoment, and will eventually get fixed. But there is NO chance of early October release...

truthfac2+
Certainly not for 21 countries. As we know they already dropped down to 13 countries. The "localization" excuse is bullshit. Period. "TRUTHFACT." It's an excuse nobody with common sense would consider. If you cross reference against the languages spoken, and official and other languages is said country. He said yield issues 2 months ago and the "chicks have come home to roost." I'm not sure what the next part says... "Knock ons for launch title" 1 smart glass etc. Instead of 180's coherent vision? They are paying the price now?

trythfact3+
Late October Launch is set for PS4. Sony's SDK is fully ready, and you can basically "master2 final right now. Today." Not sure what that means, but sounds like the console is basically ready.

FYI, though people were mad about Bayonetta going exclusive to Wii U, you'll be somewhat unhappy about what MS is moneyhatting with Platinum. Other Japanese devs are "in play" too, but Kamiya is the only 1 he's 100% sure about. The game is not for North America or Europe, which doesn't make sense.

truthsfact$5
Big Park cancelled a game. It was a MOBA. 100% Dead. The whole studio is now focusing on TV services. All the best talent went to Big Tusk or left MS entirely. Rare is still Kinect focused, regardless of what you guys may have heard.

truthfact6
New Indie publishing policy is not yet set. It will be post launch.

trutgh fact*#7:
Early September surprise.
Apologize in advanced. Everything I saw over the last 24 months was no chance of Kinectless SKU. It was solid and concrete info.

Well, about that...

Whispers of optional Kinect (not in Box, SKU happening early next year).
Enough smoke now to point out the fire before the announcement in September.

Has it ever been explained why they are so dear on PSN and XBL?

It has never been explained, but having a guess PSN or XBOX Live would probably get a cut of the sale like Steam does of probably 20-30%, then after that there is the license cost where a % of each title goes to Sony as a licensing fee again about 20-30& which leaves the rest going to the Publisher/Developer.

So when the game sells for £50 the developer probably only gets £25-£30 of this money, which is the same price a retailer would pay for the game.

This is assuming a lot but I would guess it isn't far from the truth.

Rumour that Xbox are going to announce that in if you buy the new console in Europe (well the places they're actually selling the console) you get a free copy of FIFA 14 bundled in.

Well, by the information out there so far, it seems that Sony will edge out Microsoft in Europe, while Microsoft will do the same in the USA. And there seems to be literally nothing either company can say to change that as even with all the announcements over the last few months, the numbers have held steady along the same divide as XBox 360 and PS3 owners.

However, I do think that actually getting product on the shelves can determine which console gets the better initial install base. Microsoft is going the route of limiting the number of launch countries in order to have enough consoles to offer at launch in the counties they've chosen, while Sony is leaving everyone to believe they are gong to launch everywhere at once (and I presume some countries will have very few units as a result.)

It's interesting to see which approach is more successful. Are consumers going to be more upset at Microsoft for a delayed launch in their country, or at Sony for a launch in where many pre-orders go unfulfilled?

So, they can give a $60 dollar game for free but can´t cut the price of the console in $50?

It seems that M$ increasingly desperate as time goes...

Xbox with free FIFA is £429.
PS with FIFA is £349 + £47 (cheapest I've seen so far) so £396. Plus Driveclub is also free. Couple more quid on top and PS+ sub for year sorted too.
For a lot of people its a no brainer money wise. I'm not that bothered either way but the kids mates are getting PS4's (can't remember if I just said that on this site or another so sorry if repeating it) so not going to complain if it does save a few quid.
