Microsoft Xbox 360

I'm tempted to get one of these:

Racing Wheel with force feedback edition of Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360)

I didn't get the feedback wheel with the PS2....how are they? Are they as good (or maybe close) as the ones in the Arcades (i.e. Daytona USA)? Do they break easily? Do you reckon it is worth it?

I wouldn't say they break easily, and they're a lot of fun, but after hours of non-stop racing with the wheel and then going back to the pad (in every game I've ever tried a racing wheel with), you break your previous lap-record by a country mile - so I wouldn't buy one again.

Don't get me wrong, as I've said they're a lot of fun and it is like having an arcade in your house - if it's cheap and you can afford it (and it's 360-degree) then I'd go for it, it's a blast. But if you want to have fun and win races at the same time, I'd stick to the pad, unfortunately.

Something with the 360 is really starting to get on my nerves. I've got the resolution set to my monitor's optimum setting (1280x1024), and half the games I play (literally) appear stretched from top to bottom - meaning anorexic-looking people - as if playing a game with a 16:9 option enabled on a 4:3 television. These games include Oblivion, PGR3 and Burnout Revenge.

It's getting me really frustrated because the only way to fix it seems to be to lower the resolution to either 1024x768 or, ridiculously, 640x480.

Does anybody else have this issue?

Edit: Before anybody else says it, yes, in the dashboard -> Display settings menu, the screen mode is set to "Normal", and not "Widescreen".

i just got my 360 at 9 this morning it's great way way better than the ps2 the only thing that worries me is that playing it too long with overheat it but it says in the manual when the red lights show up you have to wait for it to cool down

It's a known issue in at least PGR3 and is the reason I went to connecting my 360 through my standard widescreen TV instead. Annoying but unless the developers fix the games you're stuck with it.

i turned on my 360 and the red lights came on then i noticed that the av cable was unplugged it's kind of a clever thing but it makes you get scared

I had that the first time i was setting it up and thought, Oh No!!! not already. Then read the problems support section of the manual and sorted it out

i would suggest you 2 things if you play for long times like i do:
1st: leave a fan facing the FRONT(do not block the back hot air scape) of your 360 so it will be well ventilated.
2nd: get an eletric pc estabilazator(really cheap, about 12 dollars) and plug only your 360 on it.

with those 2 thing i am sure you wont have any 3 deadly red light problems.

I have 1 red light if ive left the power brick unplugged from the mains for a few hours. I think its like a PC and it stores information in like a CMOS battery and the 1 red light indicates it has lost its battery info. When I then reboot the console it starts fine and of course the clock is then wrong until it connects to live. Very similar to the Original XBox that I had.

Other than that in almost a year of owning it and 1 busted PGR3 DVD I havent had a single problem with mine and im well pleased with it and some of the games have been excellent. Ive enjoyed playing GRAW, FIFA 07, PGR3, Moto GP 06, Saints Row and Table Tennis which I think is a brilliant game which came from no-where!

Anyone one know what today's update on XBOX Live was for?

From Majornelson.com:-

Dashboard Update (aka the 1080p fix)
The next time you sign into Xbox Live, you’ll be prompted for a dashboard update. The update contains:
  • Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution
  • Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers
  • Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy
This update is being rolled out across the world, so you may not get it exactly at this moment, so be patient.

Things are getting heated on Major Nelson.

Seemingly tons of gamers who use vga with the 360,are having major problems with the screen ratio, resolution etc, since yesterdays update.
Bummer.
I've just bloody ordered a vga cable as well, for my 15" lcd,as component 720p is all stretched up(can't select normal,Widescreen is default)
Having to play 480p at the mo.Still much sharper than SDTV though.

Got myself a 360 last week.

Got:

Call of Duty 3 - Not bad but the next installment is going to have to be a major step forward because theyre getting to the point where the graphics are the only difference.

Gears of War - Great game, very polished visuals and good voice acting. Although I havent played it much so far, really enjoying it.

Pro evo 6 - Graphics are nice and crisp but the erratic passing, poor d-pad and even worse shooting have made me and my mates go back to the PS2 version.

Spliner Cell DA - Great game, graphics, story, levels. Everything about it is fantastic.
