Microsoft Xbox 360

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Gotta take into account that Microsoft has the information/data to build a strong online structure due to windows and their other products, Sony havent really done anything in the past involving network gaming.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

You are mate, all Live games are hosted by me or you (metaphorically). All Live does is 'link you up' then hands over control to the consoles, one hosts the other/rest are clients. On PC there are tons of free programs that do this for you, or heck you just find out your IP and let the other players know if you want to do IP to IP.

Still can't see why this is free on PC but not on Xbox.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Well then how can we explain why Live is so much better than the PS2 online? Is it just because all games are linked to the one gamertag and you can keep freinds lists and stats? People complain about lag on PS2 games a lot more than Live but if they're just connecting us together then it sohuld be the same?

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

The main difference is the quality of the service. PC gamers are used to the fact that they have to fiddle around with patches for almost every (online) game there is. Developers can bring out a new patch every week and players won't really complain if the game becomes playable after the third patch and weeks after release, because it's never been different. In addition to that, many games rely on servers made by players, which can be reliable or not, hacked or not. I've played PC online games for years, but now that I've got less and less time I'm starting to realise how much time I had spent with configuring and fixing things rather than playing.

Live offers strong encryption and automated patching of usually already very playable online games. I can plug in a headset and talk to people. It also offers a central network where I can see and contact other players, no matter what game they play. I'm aware that you can do all this with a PC, but having these comfortable things built in is nice, and it works right away.

If I spend an hour or two working instead of configuring my online settings, I've earned the money for Live for a month. That's a fair deal for me.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

JayM, like I say I can't comment on PS2 I've not played it online, my comparison was with PC gaming. That is how Live works though, games are not hosted on dedicated servers.

Ike, I don't think that's the case at all. With the games I play, I install them then hit the online option in the menu and I'm off and running. There might be patches that I have to download later on, but if people don't have the mental capacity to download and install a patch then they shouldn't be let near the plug socket in the wall for their machine in the first place. "Every week" is also a major exaggeration, Call of Duty has been out for about two years or so and has had three patches I think. Bear in mind, these patches also often include extra maps, which you'd have to fork out for again on Live.

I guess people who aren't used to messing around with this kind of stuff might prefer to have headset and voice comms built-in, etc, I take your point on that.

That's not me though, which is why I have such a problem with this. Live offers nothing that PC games don't, and you have to pay for it. It's a personal thing I suppose.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

During the demise of the Dreamcast, one of the first things to be dropped were the online play facilities - apparently running the servers became too expensive(?)...Sony also spoke of the financial committment required for online play hence why it took so long to establish online gaming on the PS2 (apparently).

There must be costs involved - but yes, this doesn't explain why it is free on the PC..

played the 360 and the controler is stunning. I have to say that we on xbox was much better (more fluid) only the f..... controler. But the've solved that. The controler seems even to be better then ps2 controler. I know people don't believe this but (i have also a ps2) i think it's so.

Pretty awesome news -- I tried to get used to WE on Xbox but it wasn't the same experience as on PS2 for me personally -- because of the controllers.

If 360 controllers equal the classic PS2 controllers, then that's a hell of an achievement. I'll be saving lots of $$$ by not having to buy PS3 for one game!

Can anyone else confirm hullybul's experience?

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Latest update from Amazon regarding the order situation.

"Due to limited supply from Microsoft, we are unable to guarantee delivery of some Xbox 360 pre-orders for Christmas. Please also note that all pre-orders made on or after November 2nd, 2005 will have expected delivery dates in 2006. We are working with Microsoft to ensure the consoles are delivered as soon as they become available."

What does it matter? The main aim of any business is to make money.

Why? I'm with Classic on this one. PC offers everything free (MMORPG aside) for free, instead of Live. Live is great but MS should only make enough money to mantain Live.

MS own TakeTwo?

you'd be surprised of how many people there are...

Excuse me for asking/not reading this whole thread... but some of you talk about some sort of winning eleven 9 final evolution will be available for xbox360. My question is when (february as always?) en will ii be able to go online with it with the 360? Also will it finally also be available for PC (as it does not seem to be a ps2 exlusive anymore)?

Anyone :-) ?

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

You will be able to go online with your 360 as soon as you get it, you will be able to transfer your existing Live! account across and use it as the Xbox Live 2 Gold Membership so dont you worry :) lots of Winning Eleven online!!

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

I saw CoD2 in HMV today being played by someone on those new XBox 360 pods and to be honest it looked no different to current xbox graphics.

Your entitled to your opinion but Call of Duty has never been about graphics its the atmosphere that defines the game.

Maybe it's the fact that he wasn't blown away by the graphics. And was expecting better.

I get that but COD is the wrong game to showcase the consoles graphic potential.

The pads great tho.

Exactly. The other 2 games didn't look any better either :( I think it was King Kong and Kameo.

I was expecting better

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

I know the developers of King Kong have said that there will not be a big difference between the XB and the 360 versions, as they said a little spit and polish, no new notable gameplay enhancements, nor i doubt too much in the graphic department, but basically they have a game that they can sell on the 360, so why not?

Definitely not the case, CoD2 is an amazing looking game on PC when you turn the detail up. If the 360 version looks poor, it's certainly not because the game isn't capable of looking smart. I've seen both up close, the PC one is definitely better looking.

I had heard that too, if thats the case there are gonna be a lot of pissed off people

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

That quote was taken from an exec of Game so I am hoping he really meant that "Game will receive 50,000 at launch" - not the UK as a whole as that would be a disaster.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Well I heard a rumour that Game got 20% of the first shipment, meaning that the UK will be getting 250,000 at launch, whether this is right of not I'm not sure, but a million around Europe seems to be the other rumour, making the UK getting a quarter sound about right.

Also everyone saying how non next gen the launch line up games they have seen running, I'd like them to go back in time till the PS2 launch, did any launch title for it look next gen or achieve anything that couldnt of been done on the Dreamcast? Seriously when the PS2 launched there wasnt alot there, it wasn't until PES came along and with GTA III around the same time that I got a PS2, till then it lacked any real killer must have titles.

I dare say it if werent for PGR3 being a launch game, I'd probably would of put off getting a 360, simply because there is alot of decent titles out right now on the XB itself, but as it is, I'm a big fan of the PGR series ever since M-SR, so I'm paying my money and taking my choice :D

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

I'll buy FIFA:RTWC 06 and PGR3 at launch and maybe rent a few others afterward.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

HMV is geting between 6,000-10,000 which aint alot but its a start.

Cant wait for this console i personally was amazed with the grafix but i have not had the benifit of a great PC so maybe thats why?
