Microsoft Xbox 360

My Elite did that a couple of weeks ago. Luckily it was only 5 months old so Game swapped it out.
I thought that they were covered by MS for 3 years now, or is that just for the RROD?

Let's have a look at the decent games coming out over the next 30 days shall we?

Fable 2 [24/10]
Far Cry 2 [24/10]
Fallout 3 [31/10]
James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace [31/10] (getting good reviews)
Crash Bandicoot [31/10] (I love the Crash Bandicoots)

Little Big Planet [05/11] (PS3 only)
Gears of War 2 [07/11]
Call of Duty World At War [14/11]
Guitar Hero World Tour [14/11]
Mirrors Edge [14/11]
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 [14/11]

That's excluding games that look like they might be good, such as "Need For Speed Undercover" (which is going back to the good old days of NFS, with police chases), "This Is Vegas" and SOCOM (which I've already pre-ordered for the headset). That's 10x£40 (£400) plus Guitar Hero and the equipment for £150. Including my SOCOM pre-order that's nearly £600.

I don't think Midnight Club gets a look-in amongst all that. In other news, what's the quickest easiest non-painful way to get £600? I think the PS3's going to have to go, that's a good start...

You'd have a good job buying LBP and playing it if you sell your PS3 to raise money for games ;))

I know, point was that it would generate money and also save me spending money on future PS3 games obviously. LBP looks good but I'm guessing from looking at it that it'll last a week before it gets repetitive, SOCOM I was looking forward to but people are telling me the beta was rubbish, and Killzone 2 looks great but I could live without it if it meant getting ten games on the 360 instead.

Only thing is I'd lose £60s worth of Rock Band songs that I've bought on the PS3. I forgot to put Rock Band 2 Solus on that list as well, d'oh...

That reminds me, my nephew's 360 has got the RROD but it's a certain kind of RROD (two rings instead of three I THINK) where the MS guys are saying "to fix that you'd have to pay £60" or whatever their repair fee is now. I told him to wrap a towel around the bastard to get it to three rings, but it's not having it.

What's his best option? I feel sorry for the kid, he doesn't want to shell out £60 but it's obviously cheaper to do that than buy a new one. And you get some kind of repair warranty for a few years with the £60 don't you?

How old is it, where did he buy it from? He still has the sale of goods act on his side with the people he bought it from unless MS have already swapped it in the past?

Phone Consumer Direct for advice, details here: http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk

Do that to at least see where you stand before paying out.

On the games side, come up with a timetable to buy those games over the next 9 months instead, filling in the inevitable quiet periods next year. Put it online here and everyone has to stick to it so there'll be someone to play online when you do get the game. Job done. :)

So I bought a 360 again.

60gb, only got Force Unleashed so far, was in a bundle in HMV with a HDMI cable as well.

Doubt my Gamertag will be matherto this time because it'll probably still be registered and you've gotta pay to get it back haven't you?

I think you can recover a gamertag without charge it's just changing it that costs. I think anyway...

Ah well Mart, it doesn't matter because Microsoft are dickheads anyways.

I forgot you couldn't change the email address on your Live account, so I'm gonna have to create a new one cause I can't use my mums anymore.

'trmather' is my new account should anyone want to add me.

And I can't believe that 360's are still hugely fucking noisy.

FFS.. I just got the
One light of the Ring of Light on the front of your Xbox 360 console flashes red, and you receive an error code and message: "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support"
Done some research and i know its not the av cable so it must be
The scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU

Anyone experienced this before?

Yep.

Its the best way mate, imo.

I done a pre-emptive and removed the x-clamps(both cpu and gpu), put in the screw kit (make sure you use nylon washers) and its running sooooo much better.

You do NOT have to wait until you get these errors/rrod.

Although my warranty was already goosed...:P

As i have said before i did the X-Clamps and stuff and is definitely isn't worth it.

You will get a bit longer out of you 360 granted but its never gonna fix it fully as i found out about 4 times

If your out of warranty pay £60 to get it fixed and that saves you buying a new 360 3 months down the line when lights come back after you have x-clamped it

You love pushing Consumer Direct don't you? ;)

You've mentioned them before but I don't think they'd be a massive help, he's got a receipt but it's been written on to say that it was replaced for another 360 over a year ago (literally two weeks over a year ago). So GAME won't be interested, for a start it's a replacement 360, and secondly it was replaced over a year ago.

I've advised him to be naughty and say to MS it's got RROD, see if he gets away with it. RROD is RROD, they're bastards really. But if he doesn't get away with it it'll be an awkward situation, apparently (this is from a friend of a friend so could be bollocks) if they find it's got one red ring they will ring you and ask for £65 there and then to fix it, but they will only accept credit card payments and not debit card payments - which nobody in his house has.

God damit got so far in midnight club LA and then some how my fucking game save completely disappears from my hard drive. God so pissed of right now. I emailed microsoft about it and hopefully should get contact from them tomorrow.

EA forum moderators may soon have the power to ban naughty users from the game they paid for, as well as a whole host of the publisher's catalogue.

"Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since it's all tied to your account," said EA Apoc - supposedly community manager Aaron Kaufman - on the Red Alert 3 forum.

"So if you have Spore and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your Spore account would be banned too. It's all one and the same, so I strongly recommend people play nice and act mature."

We've contacted EA for comment, incidentally, as this seems rather silly; you may remember the about-turn issued by the publisher after a Spore forum moderator boasted similar powers to curb DRM chatter.

The PC version of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 sits on shop shelves today, with the Xbox 360 offering to follow in November.

EA took over London's Trafalgar Square last night to celebrate, where actors from the game collided with press and public. Ellie bumped into Gemma Atkinson, who plays Lt Eva McKenna in the game. Find out what happened When Ellie Met Gemma very soon.

To get a 360 or not get a 360...that is the question.

Been offered a new core package for £90 and I'm selling my Wii this weekend

Xbox 360 load time comparison: DVD vs. hard drive

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/10/31/nxe-loading-time-comparison/

Microsoft claims that the New Xbox Experience — that big dashboard upgrade being pushed to all 360 owners on November 19 — will allow your favorite Xbox 360 games to load more quickly. To enjoy that benefit, a gamer will have to install their disc-based games onto their 360’s hard drive.

People keep asking me if doing the installation is worth the trouble. Are loading times that much better?

I tested Microsoft’s claim on four games, using my NXE-enabled 360. Above, you can watch the initial loading for “Grand Theft Auto IV,” DVD vs Hard Drive. After the jump, check out loading comparisons for “Fable II” and “Gears of War.”

(Videos not viewable by users logging in from Canada or the U.K.)

In all cases, I spammed the A button of my controller as soon as the game started loading, so you’re seeing my fastest attempts to get from the new dashboard to the new games.

Each of the games took about 11 minutes to install and required between 6.6 and 6.8GB. It shaved off about nine to 15 seconds off the initial load times.Think it’s worth it?

If it get rid of the dvd player noise it is all good, and what about in game loading, GTA 4 for exemple, does the background load up quicker?

any idea what would be my best option to pick up the 120gb hdd? i mean best = cheapest. ;)

Cheapest =

  • Buy WD BEVS 120gb HDD off Ebay, clone as official MS 120gb HDD and internalise into your 360.

Cheapest that doesn't invalidate your 360's warranty (not a concern for you) =

  • Buy 2nd hand official MS 20gb HDD off Ebay
  • Buy WD BEVS 120gb HDD off Ebay
  • Clone the WD BEVS 120GB HDD as official MS 120gb HDD and put it into the official MS HDD casing.

i've read that i can only clone 20gb to 20 gb and 120gb to 120?

that's why i avoided to get a 3rd party wd or something hdd so far. but if it possible to clone with my 20gb to 120? or maybe some user made files from the net? ;) :)

You can only clone to what is <= what you're trying to clone, so you can clone a 20gb drive out of a WD 20gb-110gb drive, for cloning a 120gb drive you need a WD drive that's >=120gb, I actually bought a 160gb WD drive from Ebay but you still will only get 120gb out of it when cloned of course :)

There are many tutorials on the net which explain it better than I can, I can't link to them here because they also have tutorials for other things that would contravene forum rules, but if you google something like "Tutorial For Upgrading Xbox 360 From 20gb" you'll be sure to find what you need.

Wow, I got a Japanese copy of Gears of War and it works.

I thought all 360 games were region locked but then I check and theres a massive list of what is and isn't compatible.
