Microsoft Xbox 360

True JB and similar in Call Of Duty. The thing is I would like there to be "more than 1 way to skin a cat" shall we say. You dont have to take 1 specific route to do the objective, you could possibly take 1 of several different ways, negotiating several different types of enemy blockades.

Does MS ask for a receipt if you send your 360 in to be repaired?

Anyone had experience of sending in a flashed 360 and having it repaired and sent back? (Read on HotUKDeals forum two people have said they've sent them and got theirs back fine)

I'm considering trading my Wii for a 360 but not sure whether I'd be better getting a new 360 with a receipt or getting a flashed 360 and risking sending it in flashed if it breaks.

Excuse me if I'm stupid, but I believe you mean you've flashed your harddrive memory?! If so, when you send the 360 back, (you don't need a receipt) you are not asked for the harddrive anyway, so if the only modding has been done to that, then they won't know about it when they check the rest of the machine (it sounds like most, like mine, go wrong due to soldering motherboard problems and overheating).

Don't expect a new machine though, I just got mine back "fixed" - i.e no red lights but still a dodgy sticking dvd tray plus now the machine rattles a little when held, as if they didn't put the screws back in properly!

Nope mate, flashing means flashing the DVD drive, which means opening the seal (and voiding the warranty) behind the faceplate. Although I've read of people who have flashed their drive and still had it repaired regardless.

Oh, sorry!

I'm not sure then as I heard some have been refused as they think you've modded the console or caused the problem yourself. When I rang, they asked for my email address, and serial number on the xbox and seemed to match up my details that way so no receipt was needed. I guess there's no harm in saying you've sent the machine in before and they should have a record of it, suggest they're making the mistake and that they must've opened it at an earlier time? If you can convince them they've opened it before they might ignore it?!

Oh and Lemon, I love the pants, but surely you need a t-shirt or something with the 3 red lights for when you're in the doghouse and all you get is grief!

The pants should say "unlocked" really, to keep the authenticity. :freak: The only time you're going to see someone in the pants is if you know the person well enough for them to take them off anyway, unless you have some really funky friends.

ere chaps, what do we reckon about the new elite coming out, is it worth getting shot of my current premium 360 and getting the elite? is it worth it? of course it has hdmi, but is this alone worth getting rid of my current 360

Apparently the difference in quality between component and HDMI is barely noticible unless you have REALLY good eyesight, or a huge screen. And the 120GB hard drive is useless at the moment with Europe not getting films and TV series for download from XBL.

Unless you want the black casing and are happy to pay the extra for that of course? ;-)

I really hope that they have a good Leipzeig and announce some new stuff for Europe. Fingers crossed.

Just switched the 360 off for an hour, came back in, switched it on and now, for the first time since the update, it says what disc is in the drive again (Gears Of War)...

Whaaaaaaaaat.

my tray has virtua tennis in.

I think the fault your refering to is where the laser is resetting too far back and therefore not recongizing a disc in. - Seemingly another wonder design feature with the 360

If your console is way out of warranty / or if youve flashed your dvd drive and cant send back - then this problem can be fixed by tieing a small rubber band on the end of the laser's guide runner like so:

http://www.360mods.net/News/article/sid=71.html

Worked for me - and no more 'open tray' errors.

My 360 is slowly turning into a repair it yourself kit!!!!

Replaced the xclamps - and now the drive 'bumper'

Obviously - if you can send it back then do so before your warranty ends.

Unfortunately for me - I repaired the xclamps myself, before m$ decided to give a 3 yr warranty

we shouldn't have to do this.

if my 360 dies, i don't know if i will buy a new one again.

agreed -

The thing is -And its worth pointing out that i dont know this but;

I can see this fault being an unrecognized fault with the xbox360 that m$ wont recognize as a fault and therefore will try to not allow returns on -

With it being an intermittant fault.

Again,i havent tried to return it - for reasons stated above.

Would be interesting to see wether you could or not though.

My previous 360 showed signs of getting the 3 red lights, at which point I sold it quick sharp! Too many horror stories, I bought a PS3 and said I wouldn't get a 360 again.

Since then MS have done the three year warranty with the red lights, so that's a big plus for me, although having that worry about the lights all the time is ridiculous really. I'll likely buy another 360 next week when the price drops and this time I won't get it flashed.

I've read on another forum of two people saying they've returned their flashed 360's to MS and had it repaired with no questions asked, but who knows if they're telling the truth or not?

Also, and I know this was never intended by MS, but the three red lights is a pretty shady copy protection system really. I wonder how many people are putting off getting their 360 flashed for fear of the lights and not being able to send it back for repair? I hear the xclamp trick is temporary and only works for a few months, so even that isn't a guarantee. It's certainly came into my thinking when I thought about buying a new 360.

MS offering 3 year warranty means they are not very confident in their own product.

if they came out and said they have looked into the problem and found out what the cause of it was, and they are confident that the new machines are much more reliable, then i would be happy to buy a new one.

True point Kenny, three years is a long time and does show uncertainty from MS. But as long as I'm covered and they replace it, I'll be happy. I think the 360's they return to customers also have a heatsink added which is supposed to help.

Thought you were waiting?

Waited 6 months already.
They just added the new Heatsink and HDMI port in the Pro's and Best buy offer a 2 year waranty if it breaks i can just take it back to the store and get a new one, no waiting weeks for Microsoft to repair it :).

So if it breaks in a year etc the new ones will be out anyway.

Huge fan of Bioshock for years now had to get it.

Are you not bagette boi? Who the hell is bagette boi on my friends list, I thought it was you Kenny?

Then you do still boot up the 360 then? I know you have a PS3 as well lad, but just with the above comment it sounds that you dont have a 360 atm.

i posted before that saying if my one dies then i don't know if i would buy a new one.

i don't play my ps3 very often, but i have pre ordered lots of games that are due for release in the next few months.

i hardly play my 360 too.

i just hate the noise that the 360 makes when i play my games. it seriously does my head in. i am getting bioshock when it is released, cos hopefully the atmosphere of that game will take my mind off the noise. :)
