Manchester United Thread

I will try to not sound bitter. It was a dull game. Both teams tried to stick close to their tactics. Not an open game by any means.

Chelsea were very defensive today but who would have blamed them. They were a patched up team.No Ballack,Carlvalho and Shevchenko and still they could put one up against us.I wonder how would we have done if Scholes,Ferdinand and Rooney is not playing for us?

I told everybody that if we didnt win it in the 90,we are not going to win it and I was bloody right. If only Solskjaer could have stretch his ageing neck further on that final cross from the left...which brings me to the next agenda. We need a genuine out and out striker, real bad.Sir Alex tried his 433 again today. It wont work until we have a frontman and another central midfielder.Looks like Hargreaves is on the way.If that is true,it would make my day a little bit brighter.Cheers.

We never had Saha this season to even be able to miss him. To be honest, I dont even know how well we'd do with him in the side.

Finally. We need someone like him. It showed yesterday again. I know its alot of money but a quality defensive midfielder is a must for Europe next year.

Plus he can run all day.

Also about Saha, he needs to go. Yeasterday proved we needed him but again hes injured. He has issues & although when he has played he has done well it has not been for enough of the season. If we could get Owen for around 9mill i would take that as thats how much we could probably sell Saha for.

Also what do you guys think of a free Viduka?

Ballack, Carvalho and Shevchenko missing was the same as us not having Park, Neville and Saha.

Nah...Ballack and Shevchenko have been missing all season, The only players chelsea have missed is Carvalho and having Essien in midfield.

To sum up yesterday crap game, great goal.

Yeah, replace one injuryprone striker with an even more injuryprone striker. Tbh, i wouldnt go near owen for atleast 2 seasons. he hasnt performed since he left liverpool and even then the final couple of seasons he wasnt without problems and had lost some of his speed.

So what was manu's excuse? ;) As has been mentioned, manu should have played to their strenghts, not mirror chelsea's formation and tactics.

Owen did not preform at Madrid?

Was never given a chance. I hear your point tho. Injury prone is harsh, he broke i=hsi toe in an accident & should never of been at the WC in the first place

As a sub with limited games, yes. He had the highest ratio of minutes to goals i think. However playing a few minutes/matches in the sun against footballing defenders is a bit different then playing most games and being bulldozed about in england. He's a good striker, however i wouldnt risk it till he's proven he's gotten over them. You already have ole and saha being injuryprone, you guys need a strong attacker imo, both physically and fitness wise. And the rooney/owen combination has hardly been briljant for england, although who has?!

Owen Hargreaves signing for Man Yoo for a fee of around £17 mill according to reports

Good signing imo, in tough games against really good sides you need a player that can just break up an attack to slow the opposing team down and one that continually harries the opponents midfield. And he does that. Even moreso when you have both scholes and giggs getting older and older (32 and 33 atm arent they?).

That was my point.
It was stated above that Chelsea were under strength because of these mising players. Other people then said that Par and Saha were missing all season and then you said Ballack and Shevchenko were... so they cancel each other out. That leaves Carvalho and Neville. Pretty even I'd say.

I thought Arsenal were going for him? This is rubbish. I think everyone knows Foster will be Man Utd's number 1 when VDS leaves, so there is little need for him. Someones trying to increase his transfer fee maybe...

What do you lads think of the rumours building up about Ben Foster taking over from VDS as our number 1 from next season on? I think it would be a great for Foster and this would further prove that Sir Alex has faith in his ability.

VDS for me has had a topsy turvy season as a champion. He has let us down on a few crucial occasions but then again has saved us on numerous occasions. He is a legend keeper nonetheless but I'm afraid time and age is catching up on him.

Agreed!

Time to plan for the future.

Lets get something straight, VDS is still a much better keeper than Foster at this moment in time. I really don't think Ferguson would throw the young lad into a full season because big Edwin has 'arguably' shown some dodgy performances. The guy has been one of the top keepers in the world for the past 10 years, so if his form drops slightly you will notice it, but that's not a particularly big worry for United is it? An average VDS is still better than most keepers, so you can give the guy a break I think.

Agree with you there:)

I think the praise is good for foster. Bu the was in a team where he had to save every few minutes or so. Its a whole lot different when you play for a Team like united when chances on the goal are few and far between. That is a true test for a keeper - when you are out of the game for a while and then all of a sudden you pull of a string of saves. It takes concentration.

But I am sure he will be a fantastic keeper - but you can't just get rid of Van Der Sar. It needs to be gradual the way foster takes over.

Foster can also learn a great deal from Van der sar - this is invaluable.

Very good point you made. You cant just jump from the team he's in and do just as well in a top 4 team. A lot of the time, those teams dont have to make more than 1 or 2 saves during the whole 90 mins whereas he had to make tons where he currently is.

i know im biased but Tim Ho is better the foster, howard was lights out this year with everton and now has more experience then kusczack and foster... not sure why we sold him

Cuz even after his first season, he got some chances and still f*cked up for us.

I don't think Ferguson ever forgave him for the Porto game at O T

I thought the Matt Taylor and Drogba attempts were savable by Howard this season, but he seem to be playing hop scotch and didn't bother.

Foster should be competing VDS, but him and Rio don't seem to be on the same page some games.

Whatever option is taken, the Keeper as always been a problem since The Dane left. Rest assured Sir Alex will manage the situation well.
