Manchester United Thread

dude did you see him play for fulham, before he came to united, he was immense... he is a classic goal scorer.. i think he is great

he had one good season as far as I could then for them, and then in January of that year, he joined us, so there you go

I only saw MOTD highlights, but i thought ManU looked a bit shaky in defence and were v. lucky not to concede- maybe it was just that one incident though. I think Evra slipped and no-one could clear it- total cock-up.

Giggs was in inspired form and Ronaldo looked good again. Let's hope every game is as good to watch (and won as convincingly).

It really was that one incident but it can be expected on a wet night to be prone to a slip.

I notice no one said anything about the handball erva(twice as he fell) and brown(block shot)

It was more ball to hand with the evra incident. Other than that little slip he made, I think he had another solid display to be fair.

Brown's handball was stupid, he should never put his hand up in the air. It could have easily resulted in a penalty like what happened to Bolton against Fulham. Like Big Sam put it, its childish and stupid and should know better.

Yeah evra's would have been ridiculously harsh, but Brown certainly could have given away a pen. Don't know what he was thinking.

Ha, Bayern Munich manager told Hargreaves that he is basically being a whore after he said Hargreaves is prostituting himself to Man Utd.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2006390225,00.html

It goes back to what I was saying yesterday about the husband and wife dilemma. And in this case the husband calls his wife a whore for showing herself to the other man. Really and truly Hargreaves should be doing alot more to get a move. He should threatening to go on strike, giving the manager a slap for talking to him like that or putting in a transfer request. But hes doing nothing but acting like a bitch and pretending he has flu. Tomorrow we'll prbably hear the manager forced hargreaves to go on his knees and give him an oral lession.

Yeah, I can't wait to see United get out there hopefully thump Benfica for last year. Damn deflected half volley off the post time wasting pieces of crap... ;)

Will have to see though, looking forward to it!

You have your chance for a vengeance now. Benfica is in your group. but i have a feeling it will be completely different this year.

Yeah, this year we can win without fluke goals from Beto, since he wont be playing. We can win with the class of Rui Costa and all the other International players on our squad. ;)

In just a few months, this post will probably be in my signature, followed by a bunch of smilies.

Villareal did pretty well as I recall. But anyway, should be an interesting group, sometimes the smaller clubs play better than the big ones. See real against Arsenal in the first leg of that tie - they were terrible!

trust me, if you think that this year will be even remotely like last year, then you'll be sorry

You better be careful, history has a way of repeating itself...

(take for instance WC '06 and EURO '04, you got Ricardo'ed in both occasions... :D)

Your team will be trashed at Inferno da Luz. So what?

Just like last year. Savvy?

I think its a tiny bit easier this year, and without a dount it is a stronger Man United "team. I think its a clear battle with Celtic and Benfica for Second.

Is it me overreacting or is Cristiano Ronaldo having a spectacular league start? only if he did that in the WC instead of diving every 5 minutes.

PS - confirming some comments here I can tell you that the CL draw was greeted by benfica fans with excessive optimism. It shows some ignorance since the ridicoulous manchester united they caught and beat last year (even if a bit lucky to score 2 on 2 shots, not exackly running over man utd) is a bit different from the one making this wonderful debut in the league.

I have a feeling that Man Utd visit to Luz will be funny to watch. I wan't portuguese teams to do well but simply can't stand with benfica's usual arrogance and big mouth.

LOL I love the arrogance coming from the benfica fans. Last year we played you with our 4-3-3 formation which clearly didnt work for our players. But you'll be playing a much different team to that one with us playing 4-4-2. It wont be an easy match but I would put money on it that United will come out on top against Benfica and most probably top the group aswell.

It was a good draw for us.I'm happy that we got Celtic,FC Copenhagen and best of all,Benfica. Those bunch of portugese got away lucky last season.Admit it Benfica fans, you did got the better of us in terms of results but you didnt in terms of quality and gamesmanship, infact,I wouldnt even want to talk about gamesmanship if it concerns you lot.Why can you all be like Mauras? :D Anyways, seeing the draw, there will be a guaranteed electric atmosphere at OT once Celtic and Benfica pay their visits. This year should be better for us.I hope we can go all the way.

Its hard to imagine what our team at full strength would be like seeing how we have injuries and bans.
If we can win our last game the way we did with players missing, the CL final might become a realistic target once we're at our best.

still feel our midfield will have problems against better teams. the big test will be arse and livershit. Do ok against those and it could be a good season

fletcher needs to find his role. It's similar to hargreaves. He was slagged off untill the world cup but now he's hot property. Maybe Fletcher can be used to do the dirty work and give time to Carrick to pick out our fast attack.
Remember, we were doing that fast counter attacking long before Arsenal invented it and I'm sure that's the way we'll play this year.

i don't share the same optimism in this year's CL draw....

yes we are alot stronger, and we have learnt from the past to be more careful in our ways of play and tactics....but then we shouldn't just look down on these other 3 teams as Celtic and Benfica can (as they have always shown before) pull up a surprise...

we have to be careful and play with determination to advance further this year and not let history repeat itself!
