Manchester United Thread

I am sure every Manc wanted Gravesen to come to us before he made that silly trip to Madrid...He isnt made for the slick La Liga, its just too skillful for him.It is the Premiership where he belongs where he can channel all his robustness and tenacity in the middle of the park...and yes he can pass really well too.He used to dominate the midfield for everton.

Well Fergie has said in todays press conference that talks with a 2nd signing are going very well and looking at the United website it appears to be Senna...

Someone from the media asked the question somethign along the lines of - How is the talks going with the second player ?

Fergie replied - "I dont think he should go home"

Media - "So they could sign tonight ?"

Fergie laughing looking at Gill - "The talks are going well arent they"

Im sure thats something along the lines, it seems the 2nd signing is pretty close then

senna would be a nice player to have, certainly better then fletch and oshea, who both should be sold....

I hope the signing would really surprise us fans. Its sounds like a big one...must the the Glazers, they do this kinda things with their american footy team back in the US..

United have a solid back four with Neville, Ferdinand, Brown & Heinze along the line and now have a fantastic distributor with Carrick just in front of them. With the likes of Scholes & Fletcher, they have steady players to play alongside Carrick in the middle. Ferguson still has a tremendous soft spots for both these players and either can play alongside Carrick. Hell even Smith looks sharper there than up front.

The left sided wide area is where the problem lies and also real frontman for Rooney to play off of now that Ruud has departed to Madrid.

With Simao Sabrosa's deal falling through from Benfica to Valencia (as I understand), this would be the perfect opportunity for Ferguson to pick up a left sided winger. Simao possesses great pace, natural width and an incredible amount of flair. With Quieroz's ties, I believe they could make this deal happen. Why all the talk about bringing in a player like Senna when they already have enough players who can play in the middle of the park? Bring a wide player in to reduce the load on Cristiano Ronaldo's shoulders.

With Simao and Ronaldo running the flanks and Rooney the centre piece of the whole side, all they need is a natural front man and that is their biggest flaw right now. With Madrid boasting the likes of Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Robinho, Raul, Cassano and Baptista, I can't understand why Fergie didn't do business for one of their front men in exchange for Ruud. Even if they only took Ronaldo on a one year contract, he'd give United time to think about the future whilst still possessing a gifted goal getter.

They should still however be doing everything in their power to bring in Fernando Torres, despite his loyalties to his beloved Atletico. Failing that, Luca Toni, Carlos Tevez or David Villa would all be sound buys for the vacant centre forward role. Does Ferguson really think Guiseppe Rossi is that good? I still can't see it just yet.

You made a good point there that not many agreed with me on. Why do we always need to try hard to find young players and lock them in with a long 5 year contract?
At times like this, we need a few transitional players who join the squad for the sake of carrying us through the transitional period. If we signed fat Ronaldo, we dont need to rely on him for the next five years but atleast we could have some quality WHILST finding that main striker thats gonna be at the club for a much longer period. Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt Torres say that he's committing himself to his club for atleast another year? If thats true, we could buy someone like Ronaldo on the cheap and then get Torres the next year.
I'm pretty sure that Sir Alex is thinking the same sort of thing with Senna.

Have to assume its Senna, but crossing fingers its someone more exciting. For fergie to tell him not to go home, maybe some good news in the morning!

Haha, Ronaldo on the cheap... Keep dreaming. ;)

Ronaldo won't leave Real Madrid for less than 25M€... No way.

Id much prefer an experienced older player this time and not another one of those 'potentially' good players.
Senna would do the job for me although ive always preferred Mascherano.

So your saying he wasnt ?

We'll see how you lot go on without replacing him and Pires and Bergkamp. I dont think that the one wonder signing of Rosicky is going to be able to do all that replacing by himself. There is other faces you lot can use but you need a few signings a centre back surely is a must

Ha with only Toure and cygan their only real centre defenders available they are going to get raped.

er...i know he's injured but we do still have senderos. we do need a bit more though for the start of the season. once we get diaby, freddie and phil back we should be ok though.

Johann Djourou is available for us and he has already shown what an excellent player he is, under-estimate us at your peril!

Oh no not Johann Djourou! Please anyone but Djourou and cygan! How are any forwards in the premiership going to cope against them!

Then again we got Fletch and he is diabolical and is just about Bournemouth material Not Man United Material!!!!

I wouldnt say he is diabolical. He just hasnt got any special qualities that make him stand out. He is good for cover but thats about it.

I remember a Paper Review once which Said "Pointless Passes, gave possesion away far too often, turned backwards and kept playing the ball back rather than forward" which is so true of him though, we look to flow forward then Fletch looks round and gives it back to Rio!
