Manchester United Thread

I have strange feelings about this Cristiano Ronaldo issue: on one hand, I'd like to see a young and skilled player come to Real Madrid, but on the other hand I don't think that Real Madrid need Cristiano right now, and in that case I'd rather get Joaquín instead. Joaquín might lack Ronaldo's raw pace and skill, but his dream is to play here and he feels the badge. I want every player in the team to feel the club and what it means to play here, and I don't think that someone like Cristiano will fit in that desire.

Im sure Ronaldo said it was his dream to play in spain and preferbly Marid one day.

I still dont care how upset he is. The fact that he signed an extension not so long ago proves he didnt originally have any plans to leave. So IMO, he could be convinced into staying.
Besides, he's too valuable. Sure there are more players like him that we could buy but they dont haev the potential that Ronaldo has.

Oh, well, I think British media have magnified the Rooney issue: it wasn't THAT bad what Cristiano did.

Now the boy is being booed -undeservedly, IMHO- game after game, his home been vandalized, fans putting all the blame on him...

The fact is that England was not kicked out of the WC because of Cristiano Ronaldo or Rooney, and CR does not deserve this harsh time he's being given by English fans and media. I understand that he wants to leave, I'd be disappointed.

That said, I just don't see where would he fit in Real Madrid's team.

Bit of a tricky one with Ronaldo

Potential to be a great but hes taking a long time in doing so. He has too many hot and cold games for me and he doesnt seem to deliver an end product for the team. When hes off form hes got to be the most frustrating player to watch.

So what happens ?

Try to pursuade him to stay and HOPE that he becomes the great player many people say, or cash in on him and get a replacement

I know what Id do, cash in

But then United would find themselves with no wingers whatsoever, Giggs being the classic oldie that remains in the team from the Kanchelskis era -what a team!-.

If United sell Van Nistelrooy & Cristiano Ronaldo and fail to sign a good replacement for these... who will drive their attack next year? Park? Fletcher? Smith? Good Ol' Ole? Rooney can't do it alone, Saha just does not have it...

I agree, we can talk about cashing in but that money means nothing if its wasted on a replacement who doesnt do the job.
I'd personally tell Ronaldo that he HAS to stay for atleast one more year and we'll take it from there. If he's still upset, then he could leave. If he stays then great. We have to remember that Ronaldo's young so him feeling this way isnt really a surprise.

I think Ronaldo will stay and even if he does go there still is other players too. Shawn wright-phillips might be leaving chelsea so we can get him too. Also i was thinking Routledje will do great. And another person Aaron lennon we have been heavily linked too him. And i also think we should get Pirlo he can defineyly replace Keano.

Mixed feelings about Ronaldo in this matter. I don't want to see him in RM. If he was to leave I would rather see him at Barça.
If not ManUtd will be better for him. But then again one can't really blame him.
How childish and irresponsible the english media are being(way over the limit), by pointing him as the scapegoat for england's defeat. And of course the people read that every day and go after the media.

Pirlo is more like Scholes than Keano.

Pirlo isn't that good to be honest, I certainly dont like seeing an olympic diver in our team either, if we were to go for an Italian, it should be Gattuso and that's it, no more

Pirlo is one of the best out there. Just because he doesnt run at break-neck speed or lunge in for every tackle like an english MF would doesnt make him any less of a player. A very intelligent player whose positioning and use of the ball is magnificent.
By the way....hes just won a World Cup aswell!

But the difference is unlike Kleberson, Pirlo is actually a very good player.
His set pieces are great and his ability to pick out a pass is better than Scholes.

Kleberson anyone?

Except unlike Kleberson, Pirlo with Canavaro and Gattuso were the reason they won the cup and not just getting a couple of minutes playing time here and there.

I'm seriously becoming worried. The tour in S. Africa starts soon, and not only have we not signed anyone, but Ronaldo looks like his bags are packed and just read that Bayern have announced Ruud may be on his way. And to be honest I think that is a team that would make sense for him, always in the CL, top of their domestic league, good tradition.

I'm seriously worried we've lost the plot. Blame Fergie, the Glazers the media, whoever, but next season we're shaping up with a first team of (with no injuries)

----------VDS---------
-Gary---Rio--Wes---Heinze--
--------O'Shea--------
-Park-----------Giggs---
--------Scholes---------
-----Rooney------------
------------Saha-------

Which isn't terrible, but the bench is the scary bit (Rossi/a GK(!)/Silvestre/Fletcher/Richardson) not exactly depth to compete on all fronts!

Anyone know if there'll be any way to see any of hte matches in S. Africa online?

we're gonna struggle to get into Europe with that lineup, we desperately need a midfielder, but even more desperately need a striker

ummm you forgot vidic, evra, smith, bardsley.... possibly pique

Didn't really forget them, just put up the first team IMO. Ole's not on there either. I suppose Smithy mightget back on the bench/in for O'Shea IF he heals properly. He wasn't fast to start with, so I'm 'a bit worried about how his speed will have been hit by the injury, possibly too much for him to make up those key last yards to close down players in the midfield. Bardsley/Evra/Pique/Vidic are all squad players IMO, though Pique might eventually be quality. Eager to see Jones on the trip to SA...

I said it would be funny if we didnt end up signing no one and it looks to be the case. I rememeber David Gill boasting that we were going to sign at least two world class midfielders and have them in place before the world cup.

The pre season SA tour is very soon a couple aweeks away plus the premiership is starting next month and we have no one in place. The future looks bleak at United.

How do we know whats going on ?

Calm down people, im pretty sure that we will see new faces at OT, All that is needed is probably 2 midfielders regarding what happens to Ruud and Ronaldo

Well news has come about that Ruud wants to go to Bayern Munich and Bayern are interested so it looks like he is destined to leave. As for Ronaldo who knows. I did have a feeling SAF had no idea who he wanted to sign.
So maybe our squad will look like this for the coming season lol.

VDS
Neville---Rio--Vidic---Heinze
O'shea/giggs
Park--- scholes---Ricahrdson/Fletcher
Rooney--saha

I do hope you're right Metallica. The SA tour starts Friday, so if Fergie was planning on taking new signings with him, well, there you go. I'm less worried about Fergie's planning for signings and more worried about the apparent lack of desire to come to OT. When did we stop being one of the most attractive places on earth to play?
