Manchester United Thread

It's probably because there is no USA badge on it! :lmao:

Erm, I'm not American.

Oh well, I guess maybe it'll grow on me, just don't dig the collar.

Anyway, heard that the boys are heading for training fairly soon, figure Fergie must have his new players lined up to be on the tour if they weren't in the WC, and ready to meet up if they were, so let's hear about them!

Players are due to report back to Carrington on the 24th of July for the start of their pre-season training. The best news today on our half is that Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he expects to welcome Ruud van Nistelrooy back on that day.United pre-season matches includes a three-match tour of South Africa and could be involved in the friendly encounters with Celtic and Preston on July 26 and 29.There is also another friendly match with Seville to re-open OT as a 76,000 seater stadium on Saturday,12 August.

Just read that Newcastle might be planning to try and get Becks, I'd be gutted to see him weaering any other prem's colours and coming back to OT. Feel like he should almsot be a bit like Ole, given a small pay package just to come back and be where he belongs. If Ronaldo ends up leaving to Real, I definitely expect Becks to be on a flight back, even if he's not going to be starting every game.

Any more on Carrick? That seemed to me the most likely of deals to go through, seemed to ramp up then fade away. I guess next week will have to be a big one for us and transfers, at least I hope so!

Nah he wont go Newcastle. Capello will probably wanna keep him. There worse players to get rid of in madrid than Becks

I didnt think Owen would go to Newcastle..... but he did.

Also with the way the whole thing was with Becks and Fergie I dont think Beckham will ever come back before his career ends :(

Rumours are escalating that we are preparing a bid for Gattuso if Milan get relegated. Nothing personal but lets hope AC milan get pitted down to serie B so we can raid them out!

Hey speak for yourself!

Heres me hoping we'd get Ruud off you...

Heres me hoping that we buy quality rather than crappy unknowns! Arsenal are buying good WC quality, Chelsea well we all know what them rent boys are doing buying another title of course but what about us? we are still short of a few good players to seriously give Chelsea a run for their money.

DJ

Nah disagree with that, Keane at his best was one of the best Defensive midfield players of his time.

DJ

At his best Keane was one of the best central midfielders of ALL time, IMO. But who knows when we'll get another like him.

Gatusso fits the bill, tough enough, passionate, but contracted to Milan. Maybe he needs a change of scene? Here's to hoping! Unfortunately with his age he's still 1 injury away from leaving us without a DMF again, but that's just a risk you take with the big stars.

We need quality players who will last us for years, look at how we dominated the premiership over the years! why? a decent Keeper in Schmeichel up until 2000, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Andy Cole & Gary Neville are all players who played for united for several years and were quality and in my opinion totally pivotal to our title winning years.

DJ

A decent keeper in Schmeichel?? Are you on crack mate? Big Pete is a legend!! Bryan Robson today confirmed that United are interested to sign Tomasz Kuszczak...he however does remind me of a young Schmeichel.

Who am I to know but maybe United are quiet in the transfer market so far this year because Fergie is just waiting to see the outcome of the serie A scandel. It would be a dream to see Gattuso at United next season.

good call...

makes me wonder why chelsea paid £30 mill for a 30year old striker that could have possibly gone for next to nothing had they waited a couple of months, its not like anyone else was gonna pay that.

I see the papers have picked up on the whisperings that Lippi is set to join next year, I for one would have no probs with that, one way or another its SAFS last season (IMO) so to get someone of that caliber on board now would be a massive coup, and its one signing chelsea wont be interested in for once....

Having Lippi join us would be a VERY important signing imo. If you think about what him and Sir Alex bring to the table, combining their knowledge would be very good for the team, on and off the pitch.
Plus, I dont think we're any good at attracting Italian players to our club but that would change if Lippi arrives.

let him go, i hate him... although he is good, but he is not constructive...
i hope ribery can come in and take the right wing, he is skillful

we won't get Ribery. Our best bet might be trying to get Shaun wright philips.
Get rid of Ronaldo as he is a twat. I wish we had enough money to be able to just stick him in the reserves for the next 5 years and let him rot.

we need to make up with Ruud. At the moment, the coming season is looking bad for us. Chelsea and Liverpool are looking a lot stronger as are Arsenal by buying Rosicky (and getting rid of Campbell). We're looking weaker.
The problem is that most of the big names in Europe don't really want to come to Manchester. London has always been a more attractive destination and now that they have 2 big clubs there it's going to be difficult for us. Also, players like Riqueleme want to stay where they are as they feel they have more more chance of winning the CL with the teams they're at. We NEED a good champs league run this season to put us back on the map.
At the moment, I'd say we're 4th choice destination in England and if we do nothing this season we could even drop behind Tottenham as they are also in London.

Finally,Ronaldo has come out and reveal that he is wants out.If he wants out, then we should not keep him.His current attitude and the bags he carries around now is not right for the EPL or Manchester United.I was just thinking last night while watching the 3rd placing game between Germany and Portugal. After all thats been said about Ronaldo and divers in the game, the twat just kept on diving in that game!! I couldnt believe it.I dont know what has gone wrong in his upbringing at United.Sir Alex must be fuming now as he does want someone special like Ronaldo in his team and now he is losing him.Can we get another player like him? I'm not sure anytime soon.

Who do you think will replace G. Neville? He is getting old, and say he gets injured we might have to play O'Shea there (but usually h is too busy playing in CM)
Lahm for Germany was very good, great getting forward, not too sure about his defensive skills as I never watch him play for his club.

I think Grosso or Zambrotta would be a good ideal replacement for G.Neville. Although I think Neville has at least a good two more years in him.

As for Ronaldo if he wants to leave its best we let him leave and get the most profit out of him. It would have been nice if he fixed up his attitude and stayed but maybe United are better off without him since he isnt very consistent. It just goes to show, he did what he did so he could have a reason to leave and the bait worked. The english media attacked him like dogs and of course the rest just followed along with public opinion of him. It also shows what a sly character the guy is and cant really be trusted. He is the kind of player who is only out there for himself. Which may explain why he cant work well in a team.

Im just hopeful all the top serie A teams go down so we can raid them out.Though I have a feeling capello will get most of them going to Real Marid since he is itallian and worked with most of the players in the Juve and Milan squads.

I dont think Ronaldo moving to another country is gonna help. He seems to be getting booed buy the French, German and pretty much every opposition he faces because of the reputation he has built.
I read today that Rooney is gonna try and talk him into staying by saying theres no hard feelings between them.

In other news, we've continued to be linked with Lippi and also Hargreaves, Gattuso and Pirlo too.

I have strange feelings about this Cristiano Ronaldo issue: on one hand, I'd like to see a young and skilled player come to Real Madrid, but on the other hand I don't think that Real Madrid need Cristiano right now, and in that case I'd rather get Joaquín instead. Joaquín might lack Ronaldo's raw pace and skill, but his dream is to play here and he feels the badge. I want every player in the team to feel the club and what it means to play here, and I don't think that someone like Cristiano will fit in that desire.

I completely agree with you about Joaquin. A team like Madrid really need to start buying players who would have a love for their club, not someone who signed for the fame and money.
