Manchester United Thread

I'm really worried that the morale at United is going to take a serious nose dive, and that the boys will be nervous about the cup final this weekend. I think if we can manage to get that one piece of silverware, it'll really be stepping stone up, but if we don't, could be a very long next few months.

Can't believe the CL is on tonight and no United. Gutted.

Fortune coming back eh? That's somewhat good news, though i've always thought of him as a cover option, I guess we don't even have that right now. What exactly was wrong with him that kept him out all season? I'd more or less forgotten he was still in the squad!

Im still gutted we are out of th fa cup. it was competition we could of seriously won unlike the CL. Its great Heinze has possibility of coming back next month, im hoping he gets to play his first world cup with Argentina more than anything.

Fortune is quality in my eyes. Good solid all round player.

I reckon Man Utd should use Milans formation. We have 3 strong midfielders who hold their positions, while Kaka has pretty much a free role.

Not too sure what 3 mids could play that role at United, but having Rooney in a free role behind Saha and Ruud would be good. Also could have that service to the front two that was lacking against Liverpool.

Failing that you could keep Rooney and Ruud upfront, then play Giggs/Ronaldo/Park in that free role. Im sure Giggs would do well, Ronaldo plays there for Portugal and Park played there for PSV last season and was superb.

I dunno, just got too much time on my hands ;)

I do that too and then try it out on PES5. :D

:) I might give that a go too.

I reckon though United could use that formation like a Plan B, when they have to be more attacking. If theres one think Milan have done well this season its play very attractive attacking football.

The only thing is Im not sure who could play in that midfield 3. We have Seedorf left, Pirlo Centre and Gattuso Right. Its very narrow but thats becuase Pirlo isnt really a ball winner, But he more than makes up it in his play making skills.

seeing as United dont have a Pirlo, you would need 3 strong midfielders. Apart from Fortune I cant think of anyone else. If Keane and Smith were around it wouldve been pretty solid.

I like that formation away from home, we used it last season to accommodate Keano being in the team....

(RCMF) Fletcher (CMF) Keane (LCMF) Scholes

Sometimes it worked to good effect, other times the lack of width caused problems....

Losing Keane wasnt as bad as losing Scholsey, if we had Scholes we'd be a different team....

I remember during our first 2 pre-season games,we played the 3-5-2 formation, using two wingbacks.I think it didnt suit our playing style or had the right players to play with that formation that time,so it must have been scrapped.Anyway,it might look something like this,if we wanna use 3-5-2 for next season.

--------------------------VDS/Howard------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
------Brown/O'Shea------Rio/Vidic--------Heinze/Silvestre---
------------------------------------------------------------
---Gaz/Bardsley---------------------------------Evra/Richy---
----------------Smith/Diarra*-----Scholes/Fletcher-----------
------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Rooney/Park/Giggs------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
---------------Ruud/Solskjaer------Saha/Ronaldo-------------

*Example for our supposedly two world class players to be brought in over the summer.

It's got to be 4-4-2 with one midfielder pushing forward and a holding midfielder sitting back. Use the wingers, and have Rooney as playmaker/in the hole behind Ruud. Fuck all the other 3-5-2, 2-3-1-3-1 etc bollocks.

Basically what its always been this season except this time the players would be awake.

I'm hoping its:

-------------Howard------------
-Bardsley--Vidic----Wes---Kieran--
--------------Rio-------------
-Ronaldo----------------Park------
------------Rooney----------------
------Saha--------RVN/Rossi-------

It is the carling cup after all, Howard/Bardsley/Rossi/Saha should get a run out as they've been in teams up til now (except the last round I think). I think we've got to come out offensive and high tempo, and leave wigan feeling as they've no chance.

We better be fired up for this one, if Gary isn't in the team perhaps make Rooney captain for him to hold his first trophy... ;)?

Cristiano Ronaldo has ruled out a move away from Manchester United and has vowed to repay Sir Alex Ferguson's faith in him.

The Portuguese winger has been linked with a possible move to Juventus in recent weeks with the Italians holding a long-standing interest in Ronaldo.
Ronaldo endured a difficult start to the season, but he has started to show his best form in the last few games netting four goals in his last three games.
The 21-year-old believes he owes United a lot and is happy to stay at Old Trafford.
"United have stood by me and been there for me and I want to repay that," Ronaldo told the Manchester Evening News.
"They were also the only club that showed 100 percent commitment towards me. They brought me to England and tried to make me a better player and they have worked hard.
"There is nobody else who could make me what I am now and I am really thankful. I will repay the faith."
Ronaldo has had to deal with the death of his father last summer and he is determined to win this weekend's Carling Cup final in memory of his father.
"Obviously it has been really hard to take since my father died," added Ronaldo.
"Psychologically it was very tough and you are bound to take it onto the pitch whether you like it or not. "I know he won't be there on Sunday and that will be tough to take. But he will be with me in my heart. I will think about him and I would like to win it for him." (source: Sky Sports News)

That will quiet the rumours about Ronnie wanting Italian football. Also, Heinze is back in March. :applause:

Well I am leaving soon for the final - got my tickets, 100 quid in the wallet and plenty of booze for the journey - lets hope it's a good day out!

COME ON UNITED!

GodSpeed Ninja! Well,we clearly are the better team on paper, plus we've beaten them twice now in the league.I cant see any problems in winning the cup today. It would be morale boosting and lift the players up to have a go at chelsea. The best thing about the cup is,our players really want it bearing in mind, they last went to Cardiff and lost out to the Arse despite dominating the game.C'mon United!!!

No early goals conceeded and we'll be fine, hopefully we'll come out high tempo and give wigan no space, for some tense moments, establisha bit of one way traffic and take a couple chances. I worry about our speed at he bakc against kamara and roberts, but hey at least rio's back.

Let's see Rossi!!!

Rossi with Ruud would be great. Saha got way too many chances from Rossi and made nothing of them but I'm sure Ruud would.

No Ruud but rightly so as Saha has gotten us to the final an he has medals and cup final experience already.

Ruud looks gutted but kind of feel hes gotta grow up a bit!

Congrats lads, u deserved it..
Fantastic performance by Rooney who was in fine form, running around terrorising the Wigan defence. Score 2 important goals
United defence look shaky at the starting 30 mins but was rock solid after that. Great job
oh, and great team spirit there, every united player wore " For you Smudge" T-shirt at the end of the match to dedicate the cup to him
