Manchester United Thread

Well with Ballack making an announcment on his future next week, that pretty much rules him out IMO. No way would he announce in the middle of the season that he's leaving at the end, how could that possibly be good for team morale etc?

So no Ballack then. Who can fill out midfield blues? If scholesy is really done (and I do fear he might be) that means we now have two large gaping holes. I don't like Rooney in that position long term, though I wouldn't mind seeing Ronaldo behind Ruud/Rooney near where he plays for Portugal. But that would require at least two others back as he's not known to provide any defensive cover. Definitely curious where the answer lies, cause we're still in desperate need of someone...

Really obi mikel was bought to fill scholes position but i think wer gonna have to look elsewhere now. Two world class midfielders have been promised in the summer, so it should be interesting.

I still think its possibility ballack could annouce he is leaving in the summer. We just have to wait and see. As always with Manchester Utd, you never know whats going to happen next lol.

nah i think reyes is the worst and most consistent along with robben and deco. Its good you dont see any united players no more. Ronaldo and RVN could be found guilty in the past but not no more.

You must be deluded and living in a dream world if you think no United players dive anymore. Mind you, you may be right you are such good boys aren't you?

So who are those guys that you think still dive?

I dont remember the last united player to go out their way to cheat the ref. I admit some players make the most of challenges if they make contact. But i havnt seen many this season just dive for the heck of it to con the referee because they fear theyre going to lose possesion.

To be honest i think Ronnie still goes to ground to easily, and when he first came to us some of his attempts to win free kicks were just embarrassing, but to be fair to the lad he seems to have sorted that out. Divings part of the game now though, and unless FIFA get their fingers out of their arses and get these cheats sent off, it will continue.

Are you listening Lilly Savage?

ZZZZ.

United: Your players dive.
Gooner: So do yours.
United: Reyes is a diver.
Gooner: So is Ronaldo.
Scouser: RVN looks like a horse.

 This is how it is in the Arsenal thread too.

I think the point is that United players of late haven't pulled incredibly blatant dives/cheating ref moves. I define this with examples:
a) Blatant Dive - Last years FA CUP when Keane runs at Ashely Cole in United penalty area, and stops about yard short of Cole, who ends up careening acrobatically to the ground. And then sheepishly has to get up.
b) Makele - (can't remember match) He ushers out a ball for a goal kick with an attacker on his back, both fall. When they get up, Makele taps the guy on the head relatively friendly-like, and when the other player does almost identical tap, makele goes to ground like he's been shot. Other player gets sent off. Or Robben the other day.

So I agree Ronnie goes to ground incredibly easily, Ruud does sometimes make the most of contact in the box, but pick me a moment when there's been a case of complete faking.

You bring up a good point there cuz in that case, we've never done something like in those examples.

The only one I can think that people will use is Rooney against arsenal at 49...
And even then, that was one occasion where it was such a big and important decision. But on the other hand, you see other players from Chelsea or Arsenal do it occasionally.
I'm glad that after Vieira left, theres no one thats setting that kind of example. Except Lehmann but but no one cares about him.

Record sponsorship offer
Tuesday, February 14, 2006

from Bloomberg

'Mansion Ltd., an online gaming company, offered Premiership soccer club Manchester United as much as 16.5 million pounds ($28.6 million) a year to endorse its shirts, a record for the sport, the Daily Mail reported. The closely held Gibraltar-based company offered the two- time European champion 15 million pounds a year and annual bonuses of as much as 1.5 million pounds, the newspaper said. The total would top the 22 million euros ($26.2 million) that oil company Tamoil SA hands Italian champion Juventus each year in the sport's biggest shirt sponsorship agreement. Vodafone Group Plc, the world's largest cellular operator, said it November it will end two years early a sponsorship agreement with United worth an annual 9 million pounds. It will instead endorse Europe's elite Champions League competition.'

M.E.N on early team news

'United's hopes of beating Liverpool this weekend have been bolstered by confirmation that Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville should all be fit to face Rafael Benitez's men.
Van der Sar and Giggs were substituted at half-time during Saturday's win at Portsmouth after picking up groin and thigh injuries respectively, while Neville missed the Fratton Park match entirely with a hamstring strain. However, none of the injuries is thought to be serious and all three are expected to be in Sir Alex Ferguson's starting line-up.'

Should be another great showdown this weekend against the scousers. They are fresh from a victory against the Goons and will be more confident this time round.I dont know why but I feel a certain Mr Wayne Rooney will add goals to his tally this weekend. He was pretty quiet for the league games with the mickeys but I'm sure he will be up for it,3rd time lucky. The return of VDS,Giggsy and Gaz are a great boost to us.I predict another 1 goal victory for us.

One the best divers is Brazil's Ronaldo. Even his facial expressions are spot on. I bet he could be a stunt man.

Take of your glasses....Rooney's dive to win a pen in the league against us?

I think this is whats up with arsenal, the players and the fans havent gotten over us beating them at our place in the league last season....

give it up, campbell put a leg out, rooney went over it, i've seen pires paddy etc dive with less contact, just let it go, you's have got more to worry about at the mo...
