Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

I dont get why Utd didnt go for ballack when he was at Leverkuson and also lucio aswell. It seems we have to wait for these players to get old and hyped up before we go in bid for them.

yeah he was awesome for Leverkuson but I think he wanted to play for Munich before he left Germany.....

he is too old though we've already got Ruud, scholes, neville, giggs and of course Keano either hitting 30 or past 30 we need some youth in MF...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

I'm sure most of you heard or read Vieiras comments regarding United yesterday and how Ruud was a cheat, I fell out of my chair laughing. Now I've always rated him as a player, just always thought he was a sneaky twat....

The times has a cracking article on it...

'SO Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Holland and Manchester United striker, is a cheat. So Wayne Rooney, the England and United forward, is a diver. So Patrick Vieira, the France and Juventus midfield player and former Arsenal captain, has a book to promote.
The accusations levelled at Van Nistelrooy and Rooney yesterday are not new but are sexy selling points as Vieira does the public relations rounds. His new autobiography is the latest in a series of juicy kiss-and-tell football tomes that is guaranteed to titillate the not-so-discerning reader.

But whoah . . . hold on a minute. Is there not a whiff of Gallic hypocrisy as Vieira delves into the dark arts? Has the Frenchman had an unblemished career à la Gary Lineker or Bobby Charlton? Ninety yellow cards and nine red in 407 matches for Arsenal would suggest not.

Only last season, when Arsenal lost 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield in November, Vieira fell theatrically under the challenge of Dietmar Hamann, the German having barely touched him. That he escaped a booking for simulation and a subsequent sending-off — he had already been shown the yellow card — incensed the chatroom surfers.

“That was the worst dive I’ve ever seen,” Ian Brown raged. “There was not even the threat of contact from Hamann. To go down like the proverbial sack of s***e was disgraceful.” Kurt was not impressed. “The ref bottled it with the sending-off,” he fumed. Nor was DT, who wrote: “No doubt Vieira will say that he just lost his balance.”

Justice was done, perhaps, when, at 1-1, Vieira having cancelled out the opening goal from Xabi Alonso, Neil Mellor struck with a long-range winner in the dying seconds. “When Vieira’s face came on the screen after Mellor’s goal,” Brown continued, “it was two fingers at him from all concerned in my household.”

Myles Palmer, a journalist and author of The Professor, a book about Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, took a more considered view, yet could hardly believe the incident either. Writing on Arsenal News Review, a website, he said: “Hamann went for a tackle on Vieira, pulled out and Pat fell over. A non-tackle has felled him. I’ve never seen Vieira do that. I’ve never seen him fall when he was not touched. A bad omen.”

Cheats? Divers? Marcel Desailly was none too taken by Vieira’s antics when Arsenal took on Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Stamford Bridge in March last year. Desailly, Vieira’s former France team-mate, was sent off for two bookings, the second of which was for a foul on his compatriot.

“Vieira has been clever,” Desailly said. “He’s seen that I was a bit late and has pushed the ball and jumped over me like I’ve touched him. I didn’t at all. You can see on TV that he just jumps over my leg.”

It is a familiar theme and however Vieira perceives the behaviour of Van Nistelrooy or Rooney, he is not averse to embellishment or play-acting if the situation merits it. That Wenger regularly turns a blind eye to many of his players’ indiscretions can only have tacitly encouraged Vieira during his nine years at Highbury.

In September 1998, Nicky Butt, a midfield player for Manchester United at the time, fell victim to a tumble by Vieira when his team lost 3-0 to Arsenal at Highbury. Butt was sent off for a foul on Vieira, his second booking, but many observers deemed that Graham Barber, the referee, had been “harsh”. Alex Ferguson, the United manager, concurred: “It was a bad decision,” he said.

Cheating and diving aside, do not forget, either, that it was Vieira who spat at Neil Ruddock after his sending-off against West Ham United at Upton Park in October 1999. On that occasion, at least he said sorry.

It is unlikely that Van Nistelrooy or Rooney will receive an apology. After all, Vieira has many copies to shift.'

He actually said that?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

well, sorta parafrazed...but when asked if he think he might have a chance of playing at Man Utd, he siad "anything can happen"

Vieira: I Could Be The Keane
Mischief-maker Patrick Vieira has told Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he would be the ideal choice to replace midfield veteran Roy Keane. Vieira, 29, who left Arsenal for Juventus in a £13million summer move, hinted that he would be interested in joining United as Roy Keane's long-term successor. "You never know what's going to happen in the next few years," said Vieira. "I have signed a contract with Juventus but anything can happen and then the door will be open to anybody."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Ballack is beign told by a bunch of people (bayern coach, now president) that he shouldn't go to United, and only go to Real. I can't work out why they care, I presume because they figure real will pay more. Oh well, as much as I'd love to see him at OT, he is kinda old and would bankrupt us. I doubt Riquelme would perform week in week out, but imagine if he did play like against england...or people rate macherano quite highly.

Plus for Ballack's price we could probably get a few players that coul dmake a difference, heinze-esque buys.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

I read ManUtd wants Aldo Dusher from Depor, 5M€ and Saha for him.
This is the guy that broke Beck's foot b4 the WC2002.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

I would have loved it if we had got Parker or Emre in the summer like i said we should have. Would have made a great midfield partnership.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Now that you've mentioned it, Riquelme would be perfect. Cuz he plays as a DM and a AM at the same time. Kinda like Essien but a much bigger threat when attacking.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

We basically need a playmaker, someone like Riquelme.
Hand-me-downs like Parker and Emre shouldn't even be considered by Man Utd. I'm not denying their quality, but need better.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Riquelme would be great sigining, one to replace scholes. Its suprising no one has gone in for him sine he is only at villereal. Though I hear he is still barca player? But i heard recently that he said the premiership doesnt really interest him because it doesnt focus on tecnique but is more physical.

Dusher would be a good signing too but i have feeling united wont go in for him. He is strong no nonsense battling midfeilder which would be idea plus he has CL experience and is only 26 and wouldnt cost alot.

I dont understand why we are strongly linked with ballack i mean i havnt heard any of the United staff comment about any interest about ballack, so its really unlikely sigining imo, because first United have to be interested in him, second is weather he will come to united and last how many years has he left in him considering he is going to hit 30 next year.

But i still cant get my head round the all the flops SAF has bought in the last 3 seasons and the amount of top quailty has been available but missed out on because either chelsea or milan or real have been smart enough to snap up proven players. now when the time has come when we need the most replacements for the older players, there arnt many world class full of potential players available now. It pisses me off to be honest.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Riquelme was signed by Villareal this summer, he was on loan last summer. And its true about him shining only with Villareal. I remember back at Boca he was labelled 'the next big thing'. When he joined Barca he flopped and was benched, he had to move to Villareal to become good again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Some would argue he wasnt given a fair chance at barcelona because of the players ahead of him that season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Ballack's been linked cause Fergie's talked about him. I can't remember what he said, but on at least 1 occasion he commented in the press about wanting him. But if we only have £10 mil to play wtih, no point in even worrying about ballack.

See Fletcher is being hyped up again by SAF, though even he admits he needs to get alot bigger. I don't understand, he's clearly well paid, has nothign to do for hours each day, has access to probably the nicest gym on earth...what is stopping him from bulking up? I mean can't they force him to hit the weights? I'm scared fergie's talking about fletch cause he sees he's not getting anyone to replace him in january... :(

Nah i think fletcher has genuine potential and i think SAF sees it too. I agree though he does need to bulk up plus needs to raise his game alot more, maybe train harder and then maybe who knows but the guy has potentail to become a very good player. There is no reason why he shouldnt bulk if that what SAF tells him to do then do it as you said he probably has all the best resources at his disposal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

you all need to forget about ballack, he isnt coming, its gonna be either Spain or Italy for the moody german dude...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

thanks to the info from our friends at the Portugal Manchester United Supporters Club

below from sky

'Manchester United's far reaching scouting network has reaped further dividends in Mozambique.

Assistant manger Carlos Queiroz has used the international break to look at young talent across the globe and after a trip to Mozambique has decided to bring Daude Massude back to the club's academy.

The 15-year-old, believed to be an attacking midfielder, caught the eye whilst playing in Portugal - where he was connected to Benfica.

Massude, delighted to be handed an opportunity to play in England, has spoken with warmth about Queiroz, who was also born in Mozambique.

''I am to carry out part of my dream,'' said Massude. ''It is a chance I cannot waste.

''Looking ahead I'll be alone but it is important not to disappoint the expectations of the person that believed in my potential and that is the coach Carlos Queiroz.''

Another one for the future....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

hey, good...lolz, since he's 15, he goes to our academy, and it still won't violate with the FIFA/UEFA home-grown talent rule...lolz

yeah, i think any team should really be looking at youngsters and the future, long-term....but, meanwhile in Jan...i am also starting to doubt Ballack from coming......even though i do quite like that guy...hm....oh wellz, it would be nice to see what Fergie does....genious or dumba$$ will be seen this winter!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

With the new rules starting to be applied next season, we have been seeying alot of clubs in the last 2 years getting them real young.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

With these stories of wonderkids I usually take a "I'll believe it when I see it" stance.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

And many other.

Kelberson is excluded though, he didn't get a chance, he's gonna prove himself in the future I'm sure.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread- Roy Keane = LEGEND!

Yeah, he's back but Sir Alex said that he's gonna really take him time on the injured players. He probably feels we dont really need him as much and could cope for a few weeks more without him.
