i feel that Keane's comments were great if he said them in the locker-room or in front of them face to face (rather than on MUTV) cause then, he could get his point across and still uphold the team Morale for tonite's game and an important one on sunday.

I want a serious, serious display from united. Closing down Lille all game, winning every 50/50 ball, creating chances and then we'll see what happens. If they walk around like they did Saturday...well i think Keano will have been right!

I've got to say, there's only one man to be blamed for all of this, and thats SAF. You can say all you want about the players on the pitch, and they all played terribly, but in the end the reason that they're out there, getting beaten up by second rate french side is because of him. Richardson, OShea, Fletcher, Brown, Smith, that's right half the team - What did they do? What did he expect them to do? They're a bunch of mediocre young english players. Keane, Scholes, Giggs, G. Neville, that's a bunch of good UK players. And their worth was all the more obvious tonight.
If V. Nistlerooy and Rooney start looking elsewhere, can you blame them? The only thing the club has going for it at the moment is that there's a great big stadium, with a great fan base, and it's history. That's it. Fine, they have injuries, but its clear that the backup is not able to cut it. SAF tried very hard, and I appluad him, to bring through another generation of quality players through the ranks, but he's failed. Alright Mr. Glazer, if you want to see some return on your investment, get rid of Fergie, hire a new coach, spend about 50 million in january and we'll see.
Until then, all I can hope for is that Chelsea don't win by more than 3 goals on Sunday. But they should.

Not trying to wind up United fans or anything, but I agree with the first paragraph. I never saw Smith, Fletcher, Brown etc as players who could/would make a difference on a European level.

What's frightening is that Lille is far from European level quality. They have one big defender who elbows consistently all game, and that's about it. Their centre forward was a joke, they played like crap too. Unitd just never even tried to open them up.

same...dunno what to say...
but beachryan, i totally understand what u said and yes, those guys are important...but when they are injured, u have to use the other half of the team to help fill up and they have to stand up and do whta they should do!!! i mean, YES, SAF maybe have made some real poor judgement and poor tactics which lead to the loss, (i didn't see it as it didn't show here), but the players still do have some blame!!! if they can't provide with the assistance and help, then that's their problem (along with the manager/coach)
as for the strikers, i read that they can't fire shots on target! now, what's with that?? tell me i read wrong!!

For those that didn't see it, United didn't miss that many chances. Park could have scored, but I think we only had 1 shot on target all match, and that was in the first minute or so from ronaldo. it was a DISMAL performance from every player on the pitch, not a single redeeming feature. And when that happens, you can't question all 11 of them, you have to questions the tactics and the coach. All they do all game is slap it up towards RVN and rooney, who aren't great in the air, and hop for something. What happened to intricate passing in midfield, then out to the wings, then in for a goal? Oh yeah that's right, we don't have a single decent central midfielder playing at the moment.

No, the strikers don't even get shots anymore, that's the problem.
The reason for this is the midfield is so shockingly bad that they cannot win the ball, pass properly, create chances or do anything useful whatsoever. Because of this rooney is constantly forced to drop miles back to get the ball himself because nobody else is gonna give it to him, and since he dropped so far back he can no longer give it to ruud since he's totally isolated up front and being marked by all 4 defenders.
Thus we create no chances and can't score goals.

It wasn't just Rooney today, even Ruud was back at halfway a lot of the time picking up balls in a desperate effort to support the midfield. We're screwed until Keane gets back and we get a replacement for Fletcher who actually adds something to the team.

Fergie shouldnt be sacked but he has got to change his attitude(dont know how many times ive said that already myself). Ruud was isolated upfront even when we were a goal behind. The wingers werent getting on the wings and the central midfielders were non-existent.
Comments from Ruud Gullit and co in the Sky studio summed it all up. We dont have a style of play anymore....we just wander aimlessly round the pitch.

I think Fletcher shoudl still be coming on for short spells not starting a match , doesnt look the usuall United quality. On that point tho none of the central midfielder are looking up to much , the ones that are decent anre nearing the end of there career.

There was a bunch of internationals out there that looked like Soccer Idol wannabees. Let's put it right for Sunday.
